I think it was one of those things that has just been spoiled by everyone so it was never on my 'must see' list. But probably one of these days.
Siha is absolutely right, it is a fantastic movie. I remember when it first came out that I was very put off by its popularity because it seemed that every Brad Pitt fan girl in existence was raving about it, and at that point I thought that Brad Pitt, like Tom Cruise, was just a passing, overrated, fad. I was wrong. So it wasn't until several years following its release that I actually saw it. It is fantastic! It is controversial, critical of our current society and extraordinarily well acted not only by Brad Pitt but by Ed Norton and Helena Bonham Carter (even Meat Loaf!), the end is great.
And if you like reading, the book by Chuck Palahniuk is a modern classic.
PS And director David Fincher has been a favourite ever since.
