So? Fenris disapproves of everything that doesn't immediately benefit him. Disapproves of Hawke risking him/herself to help others but is just fine with Hawke risking him/herself to help him. Disapproves of helping mages pursue freedom despite fleeing slavery himself. His own moral compass is pretty askew, so he can settle.

 

 

I didn't think I'd have to include it before because I was just sharing "Hey, this is why my character picked such a neon color for her face-tattoos." Then got jumped on.

I'm curious about the headcanon.

 

Me too.  Especially since I honestly didn't put much thought into my Lavellan's vallaslin.  I saw June's, thought "That's saxual!" and slapped it on her face

I think June would rather redesign the vallaslins to better enhance the facial features. Just so they would look better standing at the altars before being sacrificed to the gods.

Not trying to jump on you, just wanted to highlight this part that I think a few people miss. Fenris is someone who quite probably suffers from PTSD. He was not only a slave but someone who was sexually abused by his mage masters. He starts out newly freed with a deep hatred for mages when you first meet him, and even if it's wrong, it should be understandable to people. He experienced abuse that a lot of real life people never get over, however, depending on how you play your Hawke he learns to move on and starts to let his hatred of mages go. I think that's commendable for him and something he doesn't get enough credit for from his haters. A lot of people harp on him for being "grumpy" but honestly, he's the one character in DA I think deserves a free grumpy pass imo.
Also since I'm on a random caffeine fueled tangent, this topic is sort of why I love Zevran so much as well. He had an absolutely **** life. Was put through so much abuse where it was do it or die, and he came out the other end able to keep on smiling. His training would've broken lesser people, and yet in the end if you romance him he turns out to be one of the most loving and dedicated DOA companions. I have a lot of respect for him. I really love how deep and complicated some of the characters are in this series. I could probably ramble about them all.

I tried to harden my heart to a cutting edge in preparation for leaving Hawke in the Fade by listening to ALL of Carver's cries for a downed Hawke.

 

It just made me super, super sad.

 

(Anyone who thinks Carver doesn't care about his sister?  Go and look at his battle dialogue and see just how many he has for Hawke.)

I've found a way to make it worse.

 

Carver was the one mundane fighter in that family.  His entire life was basically 'you're the one who has to protect your sisters from the Templers.'

 

Not only does the ogre kill his twin right in front of him, but he then loses his other sister in the Fade and he couldn't help her at all.

Warden!Rival Carver is the best.  My sarcastic Hawke used to annoy him so much.  They're entire relationship was 'Hawke tries to connect with Carver.  He fails to find anything funny'.  But she loved him completely and was super protective of him.

 

And now for some Carver positivity (but he doesn't get enough love and I'm making myself sad):

 

If he's a Warden and you side with the Templers he gives Hawke one of the best What The Hell, Hero speeches I've seen between siblings in a video game.

 

The first thing he does when Fenris insults Hawke for being a mage is leap to her defence.

 

He wont let Hawke be arrested by the Templers alone.

I like the idea of Bethany completing her transformation into a stoic Grey Warden.

And just for you, Sable, I'll finish the thought I had about Carver:

 

Everything he does is failure.  He fails to protect his sisters, he isn't there to protect his mother, he couldn't even step up and become head of the house hold after Malcolm dies because Hawke is there and she's always better at everything than him (but now she's dead because he couldn't save her).

 

Oh, and whether he's a warden or a templer it doesn't matter. The order that he joined and believed in is corrupted away from its purpose and used by Corypheus.

Now I'm imagining the Hawke siblings as children with Mama Hawke...much like Dipper and Mabel. They think highly of each other and were pretty much inseparable.

I did that the first time around, but now I've put so much thought into each character's vallaslin, which is probably part of the reason I wouldn't go for the removal option a second time around.
