This is very interesting thought. Perhaps there is something special about humans that we don't know about yet.

Solas being able to "shut up" Cole always bothered me though, because while I get that he wants to keep his secrets, at the same time, it does seem like he's exerting some kind of control and influence over him that's a little out-of-character?
Wow, I can't believe I've never thought about it like that. I took it as a clue in support of the elven gods used to be spirits theory (because erasing memories is a spirit thing) and moved on. I'm going to have to think about that for a really long time now. Blocking Cole's powers as an alternate interpretation could have merit. Hmmm.
As far as the "ruining Dalish culture" thing goes, the vallaslin reveal by itself doesn't destroy all of Dalish culture, but everything Solas knows and doesn't say might. Solas constantly says the Dalish are wrong about everything--he only occasionally says what is right. When he does correct people, it is by asking open ended questions that reveal greater truths about the nature of things and how everything works--not fixing historical details (however important or big the details might be). Abelas is the one that reveals the elves destroyed themselves. Morrigan's Fen'Harel conversation makes Solas make comments on history vs legend. Solas staying away from all that makes me think it makes sense for him to stay away from the vallaslin conversation.
(I'm just talking without bothering to think of examples now, so if I'm completely wrong and there are lots of concrete details he gives us I will so happily acknowledge I'm wrong.)

We know that Solas hates it when people attempt to control Spirits, his extreme reaction to the idiot mages harming his friend in his personal quest, his dislike of Dorian mentioning how bound Spirits are used as servants in Tevinter, his anger at the Wardens for binding the demons as an army, as well as him being involved in Cole's quest to help him prevent being bound by anyone, all show this part of his character?
So, Solas working his mojo on Cole always seemed to me like he was breaking his own rules there?
I get that Solas isn't afraid to break the rules when he believes that he needs to, we know that he can and will, but pulling that little Jedi Mind Trick on Cole to stop him spilling the beans seemed a little excessive on his part?
But Solas isn't controlling Cole by getting him to "shut up" anymore than someone slamming a door in their friend's face is controlling them. He's just blocking Cole out so he can't read him anymore.

That's what I'm curious about, no-one else is able to block him out, even if they want too? Even Cass lacks that ability and as a Seeker, she's supposed to be immune to the kind of mind control that Cole does as a Spirit?
(Although Inquisition and Asunder are admittedly inconsistent about how true that is?)

I just attributed Solas being able to block him out due to his experience with the Fade and with spirits and being Fen'Harel.
It'd be interesting if Cassandra could block him... maybe she doesn't think to try?

Solas knows more about spirits and the Fade than anyone else. And even without his orb he's a very powerful mage. He probably knows a lot of tricks he's not sharing with anyone.

Just watching the end-of-game scene with Cole again and Solas does say, "Forget," and then Cole can't remember what they were talking about. That seems to me like he took a little bit of Cole's memory (of that conversation at least) with him and Solas wasn't just shutting him out. Whatever kind of fancy magic fade trick it is, it would then seem to be crossing a line I wouldn't think Solas would like crossing.

I still don't see that as controlling. Solas isn't forcing Cole to do anything. He's just taking away something Cole glimpsed. Like a friend getting hold of your private diary that you take from them.

Also that Cole makes himself forget. He understands sometimes it's for the best. He does it to people all the time.
Just hunt the wolf down the Alaskan way- with AK47s and helicopters.

Haha, alright. I can almost kinda buy that analogy.

Hmm. I never caught that. I assumed it was something Solas was doing, but I could also see it the other way...
Guuuuuys. I was adjusting some worldstates and I now have one worldstate in which Fenris is given back to Danarius.
I need some time in the blanket fort due to making myself super sad.

FIX IT! FIX IT NOW!
FIX IT! FIX IT NOW!
I can't! It's my arsehole pro-mage Andersmancing m!Hawke. As much as I hate it this choice is perfectly in character for him.
But I can't work out why it wont let me lose Aveline as a party member. I've picked siding with the mages, and didn't hook her an Donnic up but if I try to pick 'Aveline left Hawke' it forces me to change Fenris' fate.
Why am I hellspiraling again today?
edit: This probably kicked it off: http://cyran9.tumblr...e-is-why-why-is
I guess there might finally be more writing later.
I can't decide if I am happy with this or if I should go sit and cry in the corner:(![]()

Why not both?
EDIT: Top! TV Tropes!Solas (the rest are at the end of the link)

Huh... maybe she's so peeved at you for turning Fenris over she vows to stalk you till the end of your days?
I'm so proud.
Why do I feel like I just made a terrible, terrible mistake?
