I just find it very amusing that the amount of trust the player gives Solas' vallaslin reveal is dependent on whether or not they're a Solasmancer.  Solasmancers almost 100% believe him, non Solasmancers react with either belief or suspicion, which is a fairly good indicator of why this reveal is left romance-specific.

 

I know, right? It all makes sense!

 

Well, to be fair (and true to my skeptical nature), I was more than willing to entertain the notion that he could be wrong at the beginning, during the reveal itself. It was only later when I found out who he is that the realization clinched in me - and oh, what a fascinating thing it was, to know a piece of information like that about Elvhen history suddenly! Still, the argument stands even so: even as I was skeptical, I was willing to doubt that because I *did* believe his story in my cloud of affection, sooo Solasmancers clearly have an understandable blind spot.

I still hope that Caddius will come back once JoH is released. He left after the Microsoft pre-release because he feared spoilers and/or to feel like a outcast. After such a long time of absence chances might be small but hope dies last. Madrar has looked in here a couple of times but it doesn't look like she wants to frequent this thread anymore, which is sad. I haven't seen many others in a while too. Mims seems gone, Avejajed only showed up once or twice, Liz, Sister Squish ... uh, more, I know. I just can't think of them now.

Thanks, will do! I appreciate the encouragement in this thread, it stirs me to do stuff! Hopefully we'll see it done next week -- I will not pull a Solas-final-fresco. xD

On a recently discussed topic regarding Cole/Solas memory erase: I've read theories that Solas = dread wolf = dirth... since Dirthamen takes secrets. But I don't think that theory holds much water since Cole and the Nightmare and likely a bunch of others have the power to make one forget, too. I'm not sure if it was out of character or not of Solas to pull that stunt. He undoubtedly weighed his friends' safety and the weight of his mission against the alternative. It tied up a couple loose ends from a narrative perspective, I suppose... and seemed like a power flex on Solas' part.

Aww. Well... there's always hope. Hey, I came back after months, no? Anything is possible! Not that I made such an incredibly huge contribution way back when, but if an infamous forum-procrastinator like me can get back in the ring, then there's hope enough. I think all it will need is a good dose of Solas to miss the Solas thread and the rest is a matter of time.

I really can't wait until JoH is out for everyone and then we can not only talk about it, but its wider release hopefully means we get it behind us and other DLC will have room to be hinted at.....and eventually happen.

I really hope that any Solas DLC is released at the same time for everyone. I know they have exclusivity contracts or whatever, but I think to release that at different times for xbox vs PS, people are going to flip sh!t.

I think, and I could be wrong, but I remember hearing the timed exclusive thing was for the first DLC only.  I hope that is the case, because keeping people waiting 2 months for JoH is ridiculous.

 

Also, the timing seems pretty poorly planned. I understand they wanted to get MP DLC and BE out, but they're looking to release JoH to 3/5 of the game's platforms a week after The Witcher 3 comes out. I hope whatever Microsoft paid, it's worth it.

That's why I think they made JoH sort of...ancillary.  The story is important and I think adds a lot of context to what's going on and then what may happen, but it's not moving it forward in any real meaningful way.  I would assume they did that on purpose since people would have absolutely lost it, if it was story relevant DLC(Solas especially) and one group got it 2 months before others.

Not gonna lie, this has me worried. I'm really "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh......." when it comes to the treatment of mages and it's bad enough that they have a martyr already (who also happens to be a terrorist). Having another martyr-terrorist who is also an elf is really redundant. Plus why? Why make such powerful and influential people who are part of oppressed groups look so bad—mages have been the antagonist in every single game when I feel like the real antagonists are the oppressors like the Chantry and the Seekers. As much as I love Bioware, their wishy-washiness with oppressed groups makes me headdesk.

 

I don't even want it to be DLC but people keep speculating as if it will be. He's such an important character and, I agree with one of the comments—his story arc is way too integral to the main plot to be packed into a 15hr expansion. But idk.

I don't think BW painted the mages to be antagonists.  Anders did what a lot of people in those circumstances would do.  Do people usually agree? No. But sometimes you have to do drastic horrible things to make the change you want to see.  That's how radicalism works.  The people that do those things know they may go down as villains and to them its worth it.  Maybe in 100 years history will paint them as a hero because they changed the world. Or maybe not. 

 

Actually in this game, I thought BW did a MUCH MUCH better job painting both the mages and templars to be both sympathetic and deeply flawed.  In the end, both organizations failed the people that they were supposed to cater to.  But I do agree, I don't think they'd kill off Solas in a DLC. He's too crucial.

I don't think anything too big, aside from loose ends from the Solavellan romance, will be solved in DLC. Even Mike Laidlaw's comments about addressing some things and leaving some for later kind of hint at this. They took a lot of time to seed him through the games and then put him in your party. Three full games before you find out he's real, alive, and present in the world....oh, and your PC might just be in love with him.

 

His arc is definitely bigger than just DLC. Now, there are a ton of ways to get from point A to point...Q...with the rest in the next game.

 

But with certain aspects, I do believe it's likely that we get something bittersweet, but at the very minimum, I want some real peace for him.
