You know, we had this discussion about Solas making Cole forget just before he leaves. And how he does it and if it's in character. I've been thinking... but I lack some facts. What exactly do we know about this? Does anybody speak about it, explain it? Or is it just that Cole tries to remember but cannot? Because, is it possible that Cole wanted to forget and Solas only did it as a favor, because Cole asked him to? After all, Cole thinks that forgetting selectively is good and helps. Like keep the memory of the idea, but forget its source. Is this possible or do we know for sure that Solas just did it to not leave a witness behind?

I don't think we know enough about what happened between Solas and Cole to know why it was done, or who did it.  It's never mentioned again and, obviously, Cole doesn't remember it ever happening.

I believe Weekes clarified that Solas only removed what Cole was seeing about Solas's goals and that particular conversation, and that Cole remembers everything else about Solas? I think there was some implying that Cole would try to stop Solas from fulfilling his plan for Solas's sake.

Definitely an example of Solas holding back, power-wise, throughout the game.  Would've been nice to see that kind of display when the rest of the party was down against that damn High Dragon in the Emprise... -_- Though I guess it's probably because that's after he juices Mythal for the energy?

I'm sorry for any hellspiraling caused by this...

Is it just me or does it look like he doesn't want to stop :c

Also to the Vallaslin bit mentioned earlier -- I did. Have them removed, I mean. I dislike face tattoos. But whatever my Lavellan's other reasons -- all RP and head canon aside -- after seeing how intimate a moment it is to have Solas take them away, how can you not?!?! He's basically making love to you with his eyes. Not basically even. Definitely. hah

Edit: Head canon confession time. I like to think he uses Dread Wolf power to remove them. So um. It's like his little way of telling Lavellan one of his secrets (even if he actually doesn't), but it makes him feel better in the sense that his true nature connects you two for a moment. Even though it's just 'a spell'! He swears!

Hmm. Just because this was discussed. I think... Sifr? pointed out that it seems out of character for Solas to erase somebody's memories with selfish intent, because Solas usually feels so strongly about personal freedom, free choice, self-determination etc. But maybe it's true and it all comes down to double standards on his side.

I wonder, if Solas is able to make somebody forget, couldn't he have done so much to stop Corypheus too? It is quite powerful to change a person's mind after all.

What do you mean? Uh... Solas should have made the dragon forget about their presence constantly so it wouldn't fight back?

Poor Seb.

I know I joke a lot about how much I hate Anders but I'm also genuinely a Seb fan.  The thought of him losing himself to the same justice/vengeance that Anders was consumed by is just too sad.

But this is exactly how Sebastian starts out to begin with. We only get to know him because he wants justice by the blade.

Well, I shot my complaint in the foot when I remembered he blocks Cole before absorbing Mythal, and erases after.

But yeah, like the Jedi Mind Trick in KotOR 2. Make the dragon confused just long enough so he can rez Vivienne and let the dragon-slayer do her thing.

On the same note, Corypheus is smithereens by the time Solas gets back into full swinging power. I would think that a Tainted Magister would be harder to mess with than something as malleable as a spirit, though. Hmm.

While Solas is all about personal freedom, whatever he's doing is apparently important and shady enough to break it off with Lavellan and mess with Cole's mind. It was both disturbing and hilarious to see Cole on the receiving end of his trick, for (hopefully) similar reasons, namely helping.

Ohhhh, now that you mention it, maybe Solas really messed with Cory's mind at the end, which is why the boss fight was so ridiculously easy. Remember how Cory would get stuck and not move anymore, just waiting for you to finish him? That wasn't a bug, that was a story element! O_O

And we don't yet know how he does that memory erasure. Maybe he knows some more actual tricks which go beyond Cole's natural ability?

Oh wait, I got an idea. Give me some time, I'll get back to this shortly.

Would also explain why Corypheus doesn't comment on Solas. Solas rolls for Illusion.

I always interpreted the Solas/Cole forgetting stuff as Solas thinking it would be most helpful to him if Cole forgot. And since Cole's drive to help is so strong, he forgot. It would interesting to see if Solas actually has some powers that we don't know about though.

I approve of the many GIF's, Fight Club Solas, and what-not I've seen over the last few pages.   :)

I really hope FightClub!Solas makes an appearance on FFN and AO3. I'm trying to stay true to the events of the book while also staying true to the events of DAI, and that's hard. Also, trying to make FlightClub!Solas not be out of character for canon Solas is hard.  :P

I'm enjoying the challenge. Time will only tell if it drives me crazy.

Do what I do and talk to your screen at him. Snark if you must.

My husband does this.  :D

It's ok.  All I can think is:

I approve of this gif so much. It must stick around for all the Solas butt-grab jokes.

It just occurred to me that the Dread Wolf removes the mark of the elven gods from your face...

Rebellion in its finest.

I never thought about it that way...

Yes, but through Hawke's actions you can temper him or encourage him.

That was one of the things I love about DA2 - Hawke was such an influential friend in his/her ability to affect the outcome of the companions. All the games do that, really. But I think DA2 did it in a really subtle way and a way that can be really conflicting. You want to help Merrill and be a friend to her, but if you do she never lets go of her obsession. You can let Anders live and hold out hope that he can be saved, but if you do Sebastian loses everything he was already struggling to hold on to.

Feels, man.

Ahahaha. Great.

FightClub!Solas wears it better.  :P

And Corypheus is the big bad bug that Solas and Quizy have to save the world from... I'd watch this movie.

I've written (and read) (more than) my fair share of Sea smut but I could never, never do that to Aveline.

As for the removal of the vallaslin (I swear I have a block on spelling that freaking word), I would find it strange if the Dalish's blood tattoos (and what an impressive array of bright colors they can get out of ssomething made of blood!) carry the same sort of magic those imbued with proper power and ritual did thousands of years before. If anything, I'd think they'd carry a faint echo that could be amplified with the right rituals, should the glittering fiends descend on their "people" once more. Alternatively, Abelas and his ilk from the other temples know how to do it. The question is whether they would and why.

I always read Solas as removing a symbol rather than a potential for control.

I agree that he's trying to help on some level. Solas, with his trust issues, and at the same time being a man who cares a lot, even as he tries to hold a certain distance.

Cole is, in my opinion, searching for Solas since he cares about him, and because he's a spirit, is the only one who CAN locate him after he leaves. Solas does seem to think that whatever is going to happen....something is about to go down and his message kind of states that he feels he must do it alone and there are things he wouldn't wish upon those he cares for. So, it's possibly him trying to protect Cole, but the message also gets to the Inquisitor, and both of you are pretty much the two he truly cares about by the end (unless he hates you, but whatever, I'm thinking about how the comment applies to a romanced or friend Inquisitor).
