In my headcanon, my Lavellan probably would've taken Leliana's option and pulled the strings on Seb if not for Cullen.  Lavellan doesn't really know the players very well, but Cullen does, and something tells me he wouldn't take kindly to Seb stomping all over Kirkwall no matter who held his leash.  So it was Aveline and "DON'T" sign, away!

Well, is quite clear Cory didn't know/recognize Solas. I'm quite on the hypothesys Solas didn't actually "give" the Orb, but didn't/couldn't prevent Cory to take it.

Solas has cried so much in his long, lonely life that he believed he didn’t have more tears to shed. He was wrong, because as he walks away from Skyhold, away from Lavellan, his legs give up and he falls on the ground, already chocking on a sob. He keens, forehead pressed against the cold dirt, hands tearing the grass away. Regret, pain, and love mixed together scorch him, make his breathing unsteady and ragged.

 

He calls Lavellan, his vhenan, he begs for her presence, for her embrace, for her forgiveness. He howls, a wounded animal, and rocks back and forth, arms wrapped around himself; if she came here and now, he would undoubtedly tell her everything, reveal what he is, what he has done, what he plans to do. He would let her do anything to him, he would accept any punishment, he would face her anger and hatred just to see her again and give her what she deserves: the truth, the real truth that he was too afraid of revealing.

 

But he is far, now, far from the new home he came to like, far from the new friends he unexpectedly bonded with, far from his heart, his only love, which he has hurt like the selfish beast he is. Her eyes and voice when he stepped away from her in the clearing will haunt him for eternity and he sobs harder as he remembers her smile, her laughter, her love.

 

I am sorry, vhenan! Solas screams in his head as he wails, a wild, desperate, animalistic sound. I am sorry!

He never stops touching her until he pulls away.  :/ With Solas, body language says a lot. Even in the first romance scene, his hand lingers on her body until he's already begun saying they shouldn't.

Mmmm...I don't know. The more I think about it, the more I find it strange...too strange. Because there it seem to be no reason for him to wanting to use it.

 

We will see. For now, I'm not very convinced. He seem even very little interested in the world at the start of the game (he is disillusioned if not skeptical of all the people in thedas.). He is very clear about wanting to help and than go away once the waters are calm again. So, why should he have wanted to unlock the orb? He have no real motivation to use it. He have no real purpouse, if not "take back the orb and return to be free and away from everyone". And if he have one, I really can't see any sign of it.

 

Only after the Temple he seem to have found a reason to actually do something (the motivation he decide to leave Lavellan, just when he was going to leave all behind and stay with her) in this world. Before, he seem to just want to find the orb and go away.

 

I don't know. Something is not "there" for me. We will know (hopefully quite soon, or at least before the next DA game) what happened exactly.

It is never clear what he wants or intends to do, but from what we can piece together, the condition and state of the elves in modern Thedas is an indirect result of what he did, so he likely wants to help them in some way (whether that will go well or not is another story). He tells Flemeth when he goes to get Mythal's power  that he should pay the price for what he has done but "the People need me"....meaning elves. He was weakened in the beginning of the game so he needed to unlock and restore his power to do...whatever he plans to do.

 

 

Totally unrelated note: Just checked multiplayer chest to see what my unlock was for Dragonslayer and I got Isabela.

 

Though I would've also enjoyed Zither.

I got the impression he was weak and wanted the juice from the orb to accomplish some important task he couldn't yet do. He was more then happy to let Cory blow himself up trying to open it but then, as apparently it did last time, his plan went badly awry. Cory took off for the Conclave and the whole thing went kablooey.
