No, he wanted to unlock his orb because he wanted to do...something to help. This stuff weighs upon his mind long before the temple. Solas' banter with Cole is one place where we get hints of the inner conflict Solas carries.

Cole: You don't need to envy me, Solas. You can find happiness in your own way.
Solas: I apologize for disturbing you, Cole. I am not a spirit, and sometimes it is hard to remember such simple truths.
Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.
    Solas: I know.
Cole: But you could let them go.
Solas: I know that as well.
Cole: You didn't do it to be right. You did it to save them.
Inquisitor: Solas, what is Cole talking about?
Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything.
    Cole: You weren't wrong, though.

    Solas: Thank you, Cole.

Though one can argue that Solas' time with the Inquisition personalizes the people of Thedas, and has made him question certain assumptions he had made based on limited knowledge or judgments. They're more 'real' to him individually and he has learned something.

Whether people are still pawns on a chess board  after that, well, we'll see what he actually does.

But all of this weighed upon Solas from the beginning, which was why he tried to get his power back. If he had gotten his power back first, I wonder what might have happened without those experiences he had with The Inquisition....given his positions that he has learned from by game's end.

To me, the banter seem to be about whatever happened in the past. Before/when the elven gods disappeared. Feeling bad for something that happened in the past, doesn't meant he desire fervently to help the elves before meeting Cassandra and helping the-would-be Inquisitor.

The Elves that he know and remember aren't there anymore. There are the descendant, but are so different from what he and the people he knew are, that he can't recognize them if it wasn't for the pointy ears.

He miss that culture and feel alone. He miss his people. Is logic. But that doesn't mean he already had this fervent wish to help the actual elves.

Well, he gives up on Anders.  But to be fair, so does everyone else by Act 3, except for Varric.  And with good reason.  I love that nutty apostate, but he's a colossal ass.

They do hit the Angst Dissonance point for a lot of players, and I can see why.  Especially Anders and Fenris.

Spoiler

Exactly... I just wanted to bash their heads together sometimes. :P

I've got a foot in the love and the hate camp.  So...half the banner?

I'm with you on the half banner thing... I have confused mixed feelings on Anders...

Pennant, according to Caddius.  Maybe we'll put a sleeping, adorable orange cat on one side, and a glowing murdercat on the other side.  That should sum it up

My two cats would work. :D

I've always had mixed feelings on Anders. Not so much a pennant, as Varric's 'Don't' sign with an added sigh emoij.

I think Anders might have lightened up a bit in DA2 is Hawke had only thought to gift him a cat.  <_<

Thanks to Reznore over in the Cullen thread, I am currently foaming at the mouth.

Spoiler

SO THAT IS VERY INTERESTING.

The Voshai having dwarf captains, their focus on lyrium, and all that, along with the creepiness of Amaranth that is probably the lands of the Executors. I NEED IT ALL! *waves theory-crafting banner*

:o

I've heard rumors in the Twitter thread and the like about Bioware hinting that the next DLC will involve the Deep Roads? Which I'm all for.

A very good question raised by people reacting to the World of Thedas stuff.

How do the other continents have dwarves? Since when are dwarves sailors? Do the Deep Roads go that far, or was Primeval Dwarf society similar to Arlathan in that it colonized 'the bits out west'? Why are the dwarf captains 'worshipped'? Are they collecting lyrium for the surviving Titans who fled across the sea, and the great cataclysm is either the Titans starving or resorting to red lyrium in desperation?

;I wonder if they'll do a fancy box set for both volumes? I want them desperately but my children insist on such frivolous things as a roof, food, and shoes. Then again, I do have a birthday coming up...

Alright I'm impressed, and I spend half my day in Photoshop. How do you do such amazing edits?! No need for wolf hunt DLC, Siha is probably keeping Solas in her basement for photo bash opportunities.

Ssshhh.... don't tell anybody.
Thank you for the praise, but they are actually quite flawed. There are a hundred things wrong about them. But I told myself not to spend more than about 10 mins on each of them, so this must do. The sad thing though, I had to burn a few hours today, so I actually made more even. *sigh* Some day I will curse how I wasted my lifetime.

I effing love you, Siha. xD I've been crying laughing with these edits the last few pages. <3

I aim to please.

I think it's about live interview with http://www.edge.ca/syn/60/568/vgs, but we should wait couple of weeks before they'll post it online.

All interviews with @davidgaider and @PatrickWeekes will be posted online within the next few weeks- @bioware FOREVER! Huge thanks

Supposedly, the Deep Roads are supposed to stretch all across the globe. I think some character in one of the games mentions this. But even the Dwarves have forgotten how far they all went and where they all go.

The dwarves in Orzamar hold that their traditions have stayed the same throughout history, but we know that isn't true. The tiag Hawke and crew found in the Deep Roads was unlike anything Bartrand or Varric had seen. And in DAI we find dwarven ruins on the surface that shouldn't be there but are. I think it's a fair bet to say that dwarven culture has changed and shifted throughout the ages. It makes perfect sense some dwarves on the other side of the globe decided to become sailors. They'll probably insist it's always been that way too.
