Creators, is there a single LI in this game who isn't filled with self loathing?
I guess I got lucky on my first PT ![]()
@Gwyvian
In fact I agree with your opinion, I simply mean that in his head things very likely looked different. The Dalish are raised to be proud and never give in. He simply adopted this attitude. It reminds me so strongly of Merrill, who thought she did something good for the Dalish and who seemed to stubborn and foolish and proud. But in the end the only mirrored her own clan. They said different things but with the same attitude.
And I assume it helps a great deal that we meet Conner (twice even, if we let him live). We interact with him and all. That boy is only one letter.
Also, his clan's mentality isn't exactly helping either. "You're Dalish alright, and the Inquisitor thingy, and you came to us on friendly terms and all but.. nope, we won't trade with you. Unless you proved your worth by running errands for us and killing a few demons over there. ... Thinking about it, get us some animal hides too. Our hunters? Yeah well.... don't question us. Just do it. .... Ah, yeah, alright, but a few more herbs would be cool. No, our people can go down the 10 steps to the river themselves, now hurry up!" Seriously guys, no surprise people don't like you and your boy snapped. ![]()

Josephine!
Isabela also really likes herself.
And Bull is pretty self-confident.
Cassandra is also content.
Sera hates a lot of things but not herself.
Alistair took things well too.
Oh, and Zevran of course.
And Morrigan regards herself highly.

I don't know that I would call it self loathing for Solas. A great deal of regret and maybe some guilt, but I don't think he hates himself. Just maybe some of the decisions he's made.

"You found this artifact! You have no idea what this means to our people! We will always be grateful!" -Dalish approval +3

Sometimes I don't think people know what 'concept art' means.
It's cute art though. I like Sera's raspberry noises made it in there.

Some of his concept art showed him with darker skin.
Maybe she downloaded that dark skin mod and now that version is canon to her.... *shrugs*

I've seen people on Tumblr (and at least one artist on DeviantArt) who refuse to draw Solas (and sometimes even Sera) as white just because their concept art shows them as having dark skin. They say it's whitewashing and all that. *shrugs*
But I'm not sure if I want to bring that topic here. Unless... you guys want to talk about it? ![]()

Having read a Solas analysis on their blog I kind of understand where they're coming from. It's that Solas is coded as a PoC and so that's how they're representing him. I think.

I think this is a topic that is best left out of here. It's an interesting one to discuss but also has the potential to explode horriblly if poked with a stick.

This. Also, he is very dismissive of his own desires and even needs, likely as a result of all of that regret and guilt. He's edged into overly selfless territory, and even in his guilt and whatever he has planned, he walks into meet with Flemeth in this defeated stance and feeling very guilty. Though even then, he can put aside what's personally meaningful to him to do whatever he wants to do to try to....do whatever he's about to do.
I just want him to find some peace. ![]()

There is also supposedly early concept art of Blackwall as a dwarf. It does not make it so.

There's also concept art of Zev that shows him with something along the lines of Fenris' look. Alistair's concept art shows him as the 30+ year old vetran warrior his character was concived as.
The only concept look I regret them dropping was Sera's.

Speaking of, I was on my mage for a bit last night, and finally got this banter for the first time.

Vivienne was also originally conceived as a white woman. Concept art is just that, a concept, a process of evolution.....meant to change. And it does, a lot, until they feel they have the right iteration for the character.
What is a PoC?
I don't think that topic would explode here, there are no haters in this thread.
I wouldn't mind either, I actually like both, purely based on looks. But I personally prefer that monk look they went with. That was the first association I had when I saw Solas and all the stereotypes fit - intelligent, educated, humble, quiet, thoughtful, concentrated, restrained, a bit sad etc. The Egyptian prince look doesn't quite fit the character. All that pomp I associate with what media taught me about ancient Egypt isn't Solas. Also the whole elven culture as presented so far feels more like forest than desert. Even considering Solas isn't Dalish I still don't see how references to Egypt would fit into it. I might assume that's also why they changed it.
Or I'm all wrong.
PoC means "person of color".
Oh geez, of course. Thanks! I should stop thinking around gaming terms all the time. I was like "player.... o... protagonist... no... play...ing... online... that makes no sense, hmm..." ![]()
Sera's Pris from Bladerunner eye make up was so amazing. I'm really disappointed that they didn't stick with that decision. Also the Yolandi hair was kind of a loss as well.
....
I'm sorry, were we talking about something?
How kind of awful those flaps actually are? How does one even conceive of such a garment?

I googled her concept art and found a few very cool hairstyles. But the concepts I saw made her look tougher, more like a fighter/warrior type maybe. The way she looks now she looks like a street kid out of a Charles Dickens story (seeing her for the first time I thought of Oliver Twist) to me, and this strongly defines her character for me.
Uhh... I just notice I seem to interpret characters based on story or movie contexts that come to my mind first.
