Interesting the impressions that people first had, from concept art. I suppose it is part in due, to which concept art one was first exposed to. For me, it was these three storyboards/arts...

I didn't see the - as Siha puts it - "Egyptian Prince" art, till a few months after Solas was announced as a companion (and we got his little bio-blurb from PW). I think that art looks good, and I would have had zero problem with him having been designed that way. However, I do agree that the look is more feral and outspoken. Considering what we know about his character, that look would be more incongruous with his persona and story arc. At least to me.

Of course, that really doesn't have anything to do specifically with skin color. Darker, lighter - either would have been fine, so long as his overall appearance still fit with the character we got. Just my .02. Nothing more.

No, Tumblr doesn't really invent any of these terms. Though the platform tends to amplify some of them. Part of my studies were in sociology, and lots of the terms some encounter on Tumblr have existed for years, only many were confined to social science before.

I know I am super late to the party but...I just finished my first playthrough of DAI......and I have a problem.

 

I am listening to the saddest music ever...on repeat.

 

I am literally drowning in parts of Solas tumblr....

 

I have made 4 new characters and everytime I can't stop myself from hitting flirt options with Solas because for some reason I can't seem to roll anything but an elf. I also find myself skipping most conversations I have already seen now.....unless Solas is there...

 

I feel like I have totally embraced this hellspiral that is Solas&Lavellan.....

 

All while curling up into a ball eating Nutella straight from the jar.

 

I will most likely just be observing this thread....but I just had to throw my plea for help out there. However I'm pretty sure this thread will just end up enabling. I'm happy with that too.

Well, I shot my complaint in the foot when I remembered he blocks Cole before absorbing Mythal, and erases after. 

But yeah, like the Jedi Mind Trick in KotOR 2. Make the dragon confused just long enough so he can rez Vivienne and let the dragon-slayer do her thing.

On the same note, Corypheus is smithereens by the time Solas gets back into full swinging power. I would think that a Tainted Magister would be harder to mess with than something as malleable as a spirit, though. Hmm. 

While Solas is all about personal freedom, whatever he's doing is apparently important and shady enough to break it off with Lavellan and mess with Cole's mind. It was both disturbing and hilarious to see Cole on the receiving end of his trick, for (hopefully) similar reasons, namely helping.

His lips twitched. She realised then that he had probably told her more than he intended to. “Yes I can. With some beings anyway.” He began to wipe her breasts, sloppily, not as precisely as before.

“Would that include me?”

He sighed and stopped sponging. Looked deep into her eyes. “Yes.” He replied quietly.

You missed a little drama, and some discussion on whether on not Solas should've told all Lavellans about the vallaslin.  Hope you feel better soon.

You know why I find it strange? because he seem to became interested in doing something for the elves only after the Temple. Before, he seem to be only angry to the Dalish and pity the City Elves. He doesn't seem to be in any way interested in helping any of them. It seem like he tried to talk to the Dalish, and when he tryed to tell them something, they just send him away, maybe attached, and surely insulted him.

 

He doesn't like them, and doesn't want to help them. Actually, I think he doesn't really have to help them. Somehow, the situation as sad and bad as it is, is quite stable for both City and Dalish after Cory is gone.

He became interested in the world only after stayng in the Inquisition for a while. So I think whatever he want/have to do is something he have decided to act about only after the Temple, and not before.

 

Perhaps it was the Grey Wardens' approach to the old gods... that dialogue with Blackwall seems pretty key...
