At first I really liked Solas. Then I took a very long break from the game after Haven. When I came back to the game and saw the guy again, I could barely stand him!
It will forever be a mystery for me why my reactions changed so much.

I'm sure everyone has posted this like a bazillion million times on this thread....
...but I'm on my second play through and I'm here again.
Spoiler
*sigh*
And sorry if the picture is to big. Not sure what I could do about that.
I've been there 6 times now or more...sigh... now i just cant make another playthrough i'll just wait for dlc to come out and the wait is killing me.. I think i've played it so may times just to have Solas around,it helps with the emptiness i felt and feel at the moment..It's hard to admit this but honestly i had days when i wake up so sad and i start crying afterwords *runs of shame* it still happens sometimes but i just cant let him go ..so hard..anyone else here feels the same or i'm the only one?The pain doesn't want to just go away..I've start reading The World of Thedas vol 2 now it finally arrived so my head will be busy for a time but i doubt it will be any different afterwords..
Also i find out this over the inet, yes i went so deep to find out why i cry over this ![]()

I am so there with you.
I seriously am in shock at how affected I am by this character. The romance is a huge part of it, but Solas as a whole haunts me. And what is really wild for me to think about is the fact that if I feel this terrible.....my Lavellan is in a whole other kind of world of pain. Because of Solas I feel more invested in this character than I have in probably any other game. That is nuts.(Tip of the hat to writers at Bioware).
It has been a looong time since I have felt like this for a character like Solas in any media, book, movie, game, whatever. I could probably go on for pages about why this character is driving me nuts, but I doubt anything I would say I would be something new here.
On another note since you mention it, how is World of Thedas V2?

Heh found a few lines about Solas that made me smile
it's about what the other's think about him ![]()
As for how long Corypheus was wandering:
The Assault on the Black City was in 7205, or possibly a few years earlier. It's when the darkspawn began to appear at the edges of the dwarven empire, and the wiki attributes as the Assault.
The Grey Wardens captured him and imprisoned him within Vimmark in 7409. So he's had a long time to wander around.
Thank you! But...ahh, so why does his lyrium change color!? I still refuse to believe it was the orb, though. I think I'll have to cling to your idea that it was after Bianca introduced him to red lyrium. Maybe people blight and lyrium blight is slightly different and it is only through other corrupted lyrium that lyrium can be corrupted... If that makes sense. Which it doesn't, but...
Makes you wonder, what if half the demons that we encounter bound into objects, weren't locked away because they were dangerous, but were just bound spirits like those used as servants in Tevinter? But after being abandoned and left forgotten in a ruin for several millennia, the isolation and imprisonment ended up driving them nuts?
OOOH. Like the way Sylvans are spirits trapped in trees and driven mad by isolation?????
OOOH. Like the way Sylvans are spirits trapped in trees and driven mad by isolation?????
Think of Kitty from Shale's DLC. She was trapped in the basement for decades and she was already kind of crazy when the Warden finds her. Imagine if she'd been stuck there for centuries, or a couple thousand years.
Masterwork: Theory Crafting!?
On Dwarves: I'm waiting on my World of Thedas II to come in the mail before I join in crafting theories. It's the fancy shmantz one so I'm kind of titillated in anticipation. See, I don't recall much about the dwarves -at all- aside from the whole severed arm thing (Solas commentary) and lacking a connection to the fade... so I don't currently think I can offer much to the conversation.
I do like listening to the way Dagna describes her findings:
"Lyrium and the fade, linked. But dwarves and tranquil, not linked. But they work lyrium, so they are. Somehow? There's something there. I was face-deep in a rune, and for a moment... I was tall. Really tall. And I thought -- I thought all the thoughts. Like the lyrium needs to flow, but if you're part of it, it takes you with it. so you can't be part of it. That makes me sad. I'm not sure why. It seems like we should be part of it. Whatever "it" is."
Tall like a titan, or tall like a big piece of rock?
On the orb: I mentioned this in a theory post earlier, but I also think we shouldn't jump to conclusions regarding the orb's asset name. Things just get named things, sometimes. For all we know it holds a gods power (Mythal, Elgar'nan, etc etc), belonged to a servant of Mythal (betrayer, anyone?), or belonged to our little wolf all along. Or any other number of things. We know foci may have a connection to dreams, and is said to channel the power of a god (being dedicated to a member of the elven pantheon). It might have been a way to restore the Golden City. It might have been a key to lifting the veil, or a key to the void, or harbouring a soul. We just don't know. Or maybe it was empty all along, and was meant to contain something -- maybe to save the next old god before they become an archdemon. We just don't know yet! What we do know is that Solas evidently can't just make these things and refill it. If Solas = Shartan, he was holding on to that ball for a loooooong time. So why did he need to unlock it when he did?
Razikale and such: Should be interesting to see how this plays out. I feel they've thrown a lot of bones in Inquisition and lore to lead up to her in the next game. Then again, I thought it eerie and familiar that the Lady of the Forest was involved in wolfy things, and voila -- the next DA game had a dread wolf in sheep's clothing.
Lyrium and music: lyrium is alive, yes. But why can so many hear it singing? Who is singing? If the song is a spell then what purpose does it have? Dwarves find it by listening for it, and they're also kind of immune. If the lyrium itself sings, then for what purpose? I wonder does anyone know how the blight or lyrium affects Qunari?
Does the chant of light counter the song of lyrium? Are they at odds? I wonder if lyrium originated after the gods were locked away by Fen'Harel, or if it is something older? When researching the chant of light you get: "The Chantry believes that when the chant is sung from the four corners of the world, "He" will return, rebuild the city, and make the mortal world a paradise." So what if the chant stops? ![]()
-snip-
Yaaaay artttt. Looks good! I'd put warmy colours on extremities such as ears and fingers and parts where blood circulates. I also agree it has a watercolor vibe which is cool! I think the stamps/textured brushes of differing colours do well to give the two characters different moods ![]()
So, this is interesting by itself, that the Primeval Thaig was free of darkspawn, that would really indicate a different timeline than the Chantry version (which is naturally suspect anyway) with regard to what the Blight actually is and where it's from... this theory on dwarven mages is fascinating, though I want to mull it over a bit more before I get any ideas.
I think there is so much here that needs exploring - maybe in a DLC...?
They've really gone into digging into lore in Inquisition, so it's entirely plausible they will address this further... I mean, red lyrium is really prominent throughout the game. The fact that it kind of takes a backseat to all the revelations makes me think that they will expand at some point, as it's kind of a large loose end.
O! I didn't even know about this. Or did I? I had Legion of the Dead armor, I think Oghren got it; how does this come about?
The severed arm thing is really suspicious... in fact, a lot of Dagna's cryptic revelations are fascinating that way.
Dwarves aren't connected to the fade. Lyrium is connected to the fade. Templars feel like dwarves to Cole. Lyrium is alive. The simplest fit seemed, to me, that lyrium could be the dwarves' lost connected to the fade and magic. Dwarves even "return to the stone" when they die instead of the fade. Justice hears the song of lyrium. Dwarves hear the song of the stone. It's like their fade, but stuck in the ground and being consumed by everyone because "ooh magic." How that would work with the new profane/mage theories I don't know (or how it fits in with titans for that matter.)
According to Dagna, dwarves and tranquil are separate but not separate from lyrium. Dwarves can detect lyrium veins in the stone, which might actually be the same "song of the stone". Some of my theories with dwarves/titans involve dwarves originally being part of a titan-controlled hivemind, with lyrium being the product of their separation from the hivemind. Basically, Dagna makes me nerd the freak out. She also confirms that dwarven runecraft was originally Titan in origin.
As for the primeval thaig, it's pretty clear that the Blight predates the Magisters entering the Golden/Black City. Based on how far back the Memories run, the primeval thaig even predates Arlathan.

What's fun is that dwarves (or anyone within sufficient proximity) can hear veins of lyrium. It emits an audible song if you're close enough. SPIRITS can also hear the song of lyrium IF they are in the physical world. When they are in the Fade, there is no song. Justice in Awakening is so surprised that Lyrium sounds beautiful to him because he's never heard it in the Fade before. He says this both about the lyrium ring you give him and the lyrium chest in Kal-Hirol.
So what's up with that? Why does lyrium have audio in the physical world, but not the Fade?

OOOOH I forgot about Justice's dialogue!
It could be that the Fade itself has the same sort of resonance. Mages use lyrium to boost their reality-twisting abilities (aka magic) while spirits are able to twist the Fade. They wouldn't be able to hear lyrium in the fade because it all feels/sounds like that. Only in the absence does lyrium stand out.

I also theorize the whole hive mind thing! Though I think lyrium has a more profound connection to the fade. When Solas mentions that dwarves are a severed arm, it got my head thinking... in ways he totally didn't intend, I'm sure... and then Kieran says the bit about "can't be taller, not without the titans". What else do we know about titans, or does he mean Qunari? Because it'd be neat if dwarves had an origin story related to something old and ancient and related to the earth. Something like titans. Also may explain why they make paragon statues so freaking huge.
Isn't there a theory running around that elves got the blight, and that's what some of those paintings describe? I think Solas locking away the pantheon to protect them from the blight makes heaps of sense.
I dislike m!Hawke for the same reason I dislike dude!Shep. I spent all of my childhood playing as men in video games (and being a Nintendo person I didn't even get Tomb Raider) so finding a game that let me play as a female character was a huge thing. The fact that most of the games I play today give me a choice whether I play as a man or a woman would've blown my 10 year old self's mind. So now I play as a female character whenever I get the chance, and I'll only play as a male character if there's content I can't access any other way. So playing as m!Hawke never even crossed my mind and while I'd like the option to romance Jack or Tali in ME I do have Liara as f!Shepard and she's the only LI I really want. Dragon Age Inquisition is actually the first game where I'm planning on having two male characters (Cadash for Cass and Lavellan for Dorian).
I think you're secretly me. ![]()
Just got dumped by Solas on my second playthrough... anyone else feel like flipping him a double bird and f***ing Iron Bull?
Second time I wanted to choose the aggressive line and maybe go to Cullen ... I still can't bring myself to go with a qunari. Too much muscle @_@

I got definitive hivemind implications from Dagna's word choices, too. How that relates to titans and everything else I have no idea yet--but I'm excited to find out!
Also, I find it mind blowing that a dwarf with the anchor pulls Solas into the dream just as easily as other inquisitors. In addition to cool dwarf thoughts (does this mean they'll go to the fade when they die? does a dwarf inquisitor always dream or is it more of a conscious anchor power they have to exert? why oh why can't we freak out about it to Solas/Varric/everyone?), it shows the power of the orb (Solas' orb, I think, not Mythal's because...I like him being powerful?) that the anchor can either repair a dwarf's connection to the fade (if they used to have one) or form a completely new connection (if dwarves never had anything to do with the fade). Go go ancient elf magic!

You can't romance anyone else if you let him break up with you. You get locked in.

I'm pretty sure the Memories don't date back as far as we'd think - unless I'm missing information from the WoT books which is entirely possible. Nor do I think they're as complete as the dwarves would have people believe. I'm also not certain if each Shaperate in each thaig held all of the Memories? If not, then a lot of information would have been lost with the loss of the thaigs in the first Blight.
I keep thinking about how Cole says, "Even the dwarves don't really remember the dwarves."

Um...I'm pretty sure this codex is about an actual Titan:
http://dragonage.wik..._Gate_Guardians
This Titan is sustained by "blood of the earth" and a lyrium rod. Blood of the earth has been used to refer to dragons before. And in Dagna's little lyrium trip, she sees the Wall of Memories in a huge scale. A titan scale. Combined with the fact that runecraft is considered a rediscovered art with origins unknown...
I almost wonder if dwarves were originally constructs of the Titans that gained sentience.

I have been wondering how long Solas had been awake before the conclave.. I don't think there is anything to go on for that yet. I'm just really curious. I want to know what happened to Solas before everything happened! :/ I also really want to read all the books.
