Alistair was really going for the 'puffy potato' look in DA2, wasn't he?  I didn't think he looked great as King Alistair in DAI, but I love his Warden Alistair look (plus, you get to hear him talk lovingly about the Warden )

 

I just found Sera's dislike of elves, dislike of mages and low approval she gives for flirting with her to be too much work to romance her.  My Templer-conscripting qunari mage is going to get far more flirt approval, though.

 

 

 

I remember seeing him in DA2 and being all What did they do to Alistair?

I also think the Warden Alistair look is quite nice. Seeing him like that was when Alistair's overall DAI look started to win me over.

 

As far as Sera goes, my mage did conscript the Templars, and their conversations have been adorable but I just know the difficulty in attempting to romance Sera with a Lavellan (and a mage) and so...not going there yet. I left my save before In Your Heart Shall Burn so I'll have her wander into Fade Tongue soon enough.

 

And I'll get to listen to Solas' speech about the orb and finding Skyhold again....that I haven't listened to a million times already, nope. It really sounds so hot.

My Lavellan also has a sibling, but she's the younger one.  Her brother was meant to be the rouge!Lavellan I used for my Cass romance, but that Inky has changed to a Cadash and the Lavellan for Dorian is a completely different character.

 

My mage is named after my rogue's sister but it's not her. Like, I considered restarting over this, but mage Ela isn't actual Ela. The sister I picture as kind of idolizing her sister and thus she's the most difficult in her response to her sister returning without vallaslin/with certain tales and best friends with a Necromancer from Tevinter.  I have been toying with the idea of Cole just sort of showing up to complete the 'freaking out the Dalish' trifecta, but we'll see.

Solas was my first romance so I had no idea what I was getting into.  When he took Lavellan to fire swamp I thought that was leading up to the sex scene, not a dumping.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to know I'm not the only one who was thinking this. I mean....super romantic setting and I was thinking "Wow Bioware! This is beautiful!"

 

Then my heart was ripped from my chest and I have been in a downward hellspiral ever since.

I can't listen to the Thedas Love theme now without being incredibly sad. I bet everyone else hears it and gets happy butterflies in their stomach for their characters.

 

I'm about to start a third play through to try out playing a different class......and I had the glancing thought of romancing Cullen this time.....

 

...but I just can't if I make an elf.....and I can't seems to make a human female I like...

 

...I am doomed.

Oh Jesus  Creators (Please don't strike me with lightning for doing that)! I upgraded to the deluxe edition and received the soundtrack. Every time the "Thedas Love Theme" plays I have to skip it. It's SO SAD!

Well that was exciting! We have several orbs with different "powers", it seems. 

 

Oh!  One more related thing before I drop off the face of the earth for a while:

 

"The Fraternity of the Grinning Abomination" they mention and its potential connection to this as-yet-unexplained figure makes me narrow my eyes a bit:

Mostly because this statue forms a very particular triad with two others that we know to be (or at least have been theorized to have been) Dirthamen, suggesting that it too is likely a twisted reflection.

I'm not sure what the Tevene connection might be, but I'm petty sure the groundwork is being laid for us to uncover yet another 'balance' philosophy being perverted to support obedience and Order in the Far West.   =w=   Poor Solas.

 

(With bonus!  The Dragon-Maker triad of sentient life seems to have a warped parallel in the Koushin concept of Sanshi.)

Am I too straight? Or I'm too juvenile/backwards to watch two girls kissing without either giggling or feeling awkward.

Sebastian is infinitely more boring than Cullen! I hated and disagreed with most every word that came out of his Andraste loving mouth. Vivienne is the sweetest woman that ever lived next to Sebastian.

Yeah, the card collection thing was kind of effed up in 1.  But it's entirely possible to completely ignore it, or just romance Triss in 1. The game is much bigger than that. It's like people rejecting ME1 for having blue alien butt.  Yeah, it's there if you're interested, but the whole Saren thing is more interesting for most.

Then a much smaller, more 'character' based number of encounters in 2. And no cards. 

 

Mmk.  Next time it's on sale, I'll pick up Witcher 1 and give the series another legit shot.  You've convinced me.  You've also taken almost all of my likes

Seb is so, so much better as a rival.  As a friend, I found him kind of wishy washy.  Rival!Seb grows a spine, and I guess it says something about how warped my DA2 canon was when I was actually PROUD of him for threatening Hawke and Anders at the end

I think it's sort of an RP thing for lots of people, but it's not something everyone can totally get into and that's cool. For me, I did eventually come to realize that in real life, I am primarily attracted to personality first and gender doesn't matter as much as who someone is. And that also works with game character romances.

So I'm sure that has its own influence, though for me it's also sometimes just plain character planning instead of just going with the flow. The planning works better for me on a second or later playthrough since I already have some knowledge of the characters.

 

I also have trouble playing men if there's a choice, though I am kind of tempted to make one for Dorian at some point since he's just that great and his romance is super sweet.

I heartily agree. I could see removing the vallaslin as the right choice for some characters very easily. But Ninaeve made the right choice for her, and his understanding of that was extremely romantic. 

 

I am still positively hyper over this! 

 Extremely romantic on one side,true but not for my Lavellan,why?   "We are the last elvhen.Never again shall we summit" she strongly believes that plus the look on his face when she says to remove it and how they both smile about it it's just breathtaking

My Wardens and Inkys always end up looking more striking than traditionally pretty.

I have this thing where I dislike losing approval and especially losing teammates, but there is a rivalry system built into DA2 so I think it's about time I tried it out because I hate Sebastian and I don't care if he doesn't like me.

 

I would like to know from people who've romanced both which romance is more enjoyable? Fenris or Anders? 

 

Is it incorrect to say that the romance with Anders left Hawke feeling a bit used? I remember feeling used, but mainly glad I could allow him live. 

What I remember with Fenris is him always being angry ... lots of angry ... I don't remember if he ever lets down his guard.  

I seriously miss Merril. I sided with her more than Fenris.

The Anders romance....it's difficult. It adds to the screwed up trainwreck path the whole game has you on. But I personally like/value it/choose to go along with it because it's like wanting to help a friend who is on a pretty destructive path, desperate, losing control...and sometimes people who are in those positions lash out or snap or aren't always 100% pleasant but they can still love and be loved.

 

It's got a certain complexity and helplessness that fits in with the overall game, IMO. Also, I felt that the ability to go on the run with him was pretty much the most 'rogue' decision I've been able to make playing rogues in DA. Like...you just blew up a chantry and killed a lot of people and helped trigger a rebellion....but I love you and let's go on the run and I will help you.

 

Not that Fenris doesn't have his walls, lingering pain, or issues, but Fenris you are....opening him up.

I...had trouble getting into the Witcher, though I started with 1 which is definitely a clunkier game.  I have no problem playing male characters: BroShep, Man Adaar, Man Hawke, Adam Jensen, and The Nameless One were all fine for me.  It was more the sexism that bothered me, though apparently that gets toned down in 2, and you're able to better control Geralt's RP.  I've been told to start with Witcher 2, and it's in my Steam queue, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I kind of had the same problem. I actually bought Witcher 1 and 2 many months back and started with Witcher 1 but I just couldn't get into the game or the characters so I didn't go very far. And yes, the clunkiness and the bad inventory system was also something I struggled with. 

 

My sister told me to skip Witcher 1 and just go straight to Witcher 2 but it feels weird to skip the first game. Will I miss out on things if I do? Like character development or plot points?

I still don't know what vallaslin Best Elf uses.  Since I'm positive it's the markings of the one who murdered him, I'm sure it's not Mythal's.  I tend to lean towards Falon'Din because he's been set as a villian (and he's also the first elven god to be mentioned in DAO if you play a Dalish Origin.  You can't even walk past the statue without Tamlen calling attention to it.  That converstation also had Tamlen comparing Falon'Din and Fen'Harel - with Falon'Din in a positive light - it makes me sure that was some brilliant foreshadowing).

Same. I've seen a lot of fanarts of Felassan wearing Dirthamen's vallaslin but I felt that Falon'Din's sounds more similar to how they described his vallaslin to look like (curling around the eyes and all that). Of course other pantheon members' vallaslin design also fit that description but let us ignore them for the meantime. xD

 

Plus Solas really doesn't seem to like Falon'Din from the way he talks about him at the Temple of Mythal. Definitely sounds like they're setting Falon'Din up to be a possible future villain of sorts. Though if it ended up being Dirthamen or somebody else who killed him I might have to revise Felassan's vallaslin if ever I draw him again in the future. xD
