-waves her hands wildly around-

I have a Solas related question!!

When I chose my specialty (Knight Enchanter), I got a Leliana dialogue but not a Solas dialogue. But I know that when I chose the same profession as a human in a previous game, I definitely got Solas dialogue. Does anyone know what the prompt is for Solas to speak this conversation tree?

You have to speak to him before you do his mission All New Faded For Her.

Bioware has totally ruined me on games where I have to play a male.  I have no interest in those games anymore. I would really like to finish AC3 one of these days but the thought of playing a male character just....blah.

The Witcher was only $2.99 on GOG last week..I thought about getting it but it really holds no interest to me. I just really can not get into a male character these days. I hope that changes because I would like to make a male Inquisitor for Dorian one of these days.

I've had no trouble making male characters for pen and paper games, but always felt a bit disconnected from characters in video games where you have to play as a male. Oddly enough, in games where I can play as whatever gender I want I'll have at least as many male characters as I do female.

Except Shepard. Never once played a male Shepard. Couldn't stand the voice, so it's been femShep all the way. <_<

I made a male mage in Origins so I could romance Morrigan, but that was the only time I've made a male character.  That was a lot of fun though. He flirted with all the girls, which pissed Morrigan off and was just a complete arse to everyone.  It's easier for me to play an arse when playing a male for some reason.

I've never completed a bioware game with a male character,  I just can't...and I do consider that my ability to play other games has been seriously messed about by the immersion of BW games  buuuuut,  I did force myself to play Witcher 1 and 2 when TW2 came out and have grown from disliking Geralt, to liking him quite a bit.  I definitely play them with a different mindset than I do a Bioware game but I've grown to enjoy them... my desktop wallpaper has been Iorveth since TW2 came out.  Geralt's pretty much celibate in my games though,  the romance scenes are cringeworthy IMO.

TW3 is really really amazing,  I'm actually quite blown away by it,  22hours and 8% complete... they'll probably have announced wolfhunt by the time I've finished this one  :D.  So I think its probably TW3 that's keeping usual posters away,  I'm a regular lurker but have been lurking much less these last few days (still keeping an eye on things though ;) ).  I'm looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts on JoH,  I loved it but it is rubbish that old gen and PS4 had to wait so long.

My Morrigan-romancing Brosca was amazing. The most fun I'd had in a game in a long time, and this was long after my canon Dalish Warden run. But so worth it. He wasn't an arse, but he was certainly in it for himself as much as possible. Quite a good fit for Morrigan, really...

But I changed him in that world state to be an elf mage, so alas. He is but a footnote in my more amusing gaming history, and Kieran has an elf papa instead.

Not too keen on the Witcher games, but I've developed a healthy adoration for Pillars of Eternity. Why Aloth have to remind me so much of Sand...? :(

Sadly..my computer can not play Pillars of Eternity or I would be playing it right now..probably crushing on Aloth. :D

I'll probably play The Witcher games someday. They do look pretty good.

I have the first two Witcher games but haven't played them yet.

Tried to get some Solavellan stuff written, wound up coming up with a drabble in the form of a letter between a f!Cousland and Leliana. I think I was mildly inspired by someone posting stats about a lack of F/F pairings in general and how Cullen is in ~20% of AO3 DAI fics but Leliana features in only 6% (I wonder what % is Solavellan). I did want to finally do a Leliana romance run in DAO but I wouldn't play another Cousland. Still, this works in fanfic. I think I'll expand the letters thing over time alongside my Solavellan stuff.

edit: I posted the first.

Nevermind that I was trying to work on an original story again tonight.

HEATHENS.

Ain't nothing wrong with being a heathen. :P

I only popped in because I didn't want to have to dig through 200 pages at once. Again:lol:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be over in the corner muttering about getting the money for saltpeter and Grapeshot.  ^_^

It's interesting to see all these preferences about the gender of protagonists and the reasons behind them. At the moment I really just don't care what gender I am in-game as long as I get to experience the world in a certain way, but I actually always used to prefer playing male protagonists for some reason I can't quite explain, but Bioware games actually made me realize that I can create some really great female characters, too; but then, these games have such a strong emphasis on personal connections to teammates that it made it worth my while to try out all kinds of different combinations, both male and female, and I started enjoying playing female characters as much (if not more with certain PT's) as I used to with male characters. Yet I would still say it's more in balance now than anything else, it really depends on how well my various PT's turned out.

I mean, with AC and Witcher (I adore both), I'm only "connected" in terms of just liking or disliking the protagonist (disliking I say academically, because I happen to like them all :D), since their gender seems like such an insignificant detail on most levels; the plot, the environment, all the little nuances and the mechanics, even the romances where there are any, all of these things are super absorbing to me and in such games the protagonist is merely a vessel to carry my mind. Like with a good book, the protagonist need not be my own gender for me to thoroughly enjoy a great romance, for instance, between two characters. To my mind, a person is a person, and while there definitely are differences between the thinking of men and women, I've studied communication long enough to realize that there are far less differences than we assume, growing up as we do in a culture where gender distinctions are such a big deal. Plus I have the advantage of growing up in two cultures, which grants me some objectivity perhaps; things that are traditionally "male" or "female" attributes in people are sometimes switched in other cultures or are dispersed differently, so that gives me an "ability" to be able to totally connect with a male protagonist and feel his pain and joy just just as I can with a female protagonist... or rather, I don't see the differences that I think that I'm supposed to, had I had these things assigned and written in stone.

Or something like that, I'm just musing aloud here. I find this subject fascinating, especially reading all these takes on this subject.

Yep, I like gender studies, too.  :D I really miss university...  :crying:

I think, for me, it comes down to choice, and if I can play as a woman, I will. I do tend to think humans are pretty similar, but it feels different, even if subtly so, to go through a game's world and the character's journey as a woman. But when that option doesn't exist, I can definitely relate to male protagonists without a problem. That's something that I think is common. Growing up, in multiple cultures, girls are expected to be able to relate to male protagonists, but  boys may not be. I think that's changing to a certain degree, especially with greater awareness.

For DA, it's only Inquisition that has made me consider maybe creating a male character to play at one point or another due to Dorian and Cassandra. DAO, I disliked Morrigan and I could go for Leliana as a woman if I wanted, and DA2 LIs were open to any Hawke. I liked that DAI gave female elves open to men and women the most options, due to adding in Cullen and Solas as LIs during the delay. That was a small factor in choosing to make a Lavellan, but ultimately I made one since I'd wanted to and also since I was bored of making humans. And now, here I am.

I wrote half of this post before someone said something horribly hurtful, so I will cut this short, but I do love all of the perspectives on this topic as well and love discussing it.

*Tis' the post right above my head*

Yeah, it's normal for girls to be able to relate to male protagonists and characters, because that's what they're mostly exposed to, while boys growing up are generally handed flat female characters put in for the sake of being there and female so people can't call chauvinism. That, or the female characters are streamlined into bland 'role model' types, because no one can handle females acting like they're people:rolleyes: (Batman exists. There's no need to make any other role models for anyone of any gender. We've been there, done that.)

Boys and girls who grew up with only boys as actual characters making shows and books and games with only boys as actual characters, basically.

I think KotOR was the first time I played a female character. (Also the first one to give the option.) Combined with Hermione Granger,  I don't have any problem getting into the skin of a female character. Mind, a lot of people who know me would only question if I could connect with a male protagonist.  ^_^

I also like hearing the different perspectives.

Tomb Raider!

Well, I really, really appreciate both having a choice nowadays and having strong female characters and one of the reasons I absolutely love Bioware is because they do a lot to make the gender question a level playing field; but in general I'm actually much more offended that anyone would assume that a woman can't be a gamer or that games in general "aren't made for women" or that certain games are "girl games" or "boy games." That kind of thinking I find truly offensive.

I love Witcher with Geralt as the protagonist, it's his story. I love the AC protagonists. And I adore games where you create your own protagonist; in those types of games (Bioware! <3 ) I want to have a choice, but in games with pre-determined protagonists, it's a different matter. I actually felt weird at first playing Liberation because of this, for me the AC formula was "male assassin and his experiences in gorgeous historical settings" (and being obsessed with the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, well...  I wasn't about to get bogged down by the fact that they're all male; besides, I have a crush on Altair  ). I was kind of rolling my eyes at the complaints that there aren't female assassins as protagonists even though in a general sense (theoretical outrage again), I support the notion of equality in such things. I liked Liberation, though, I think they pulled it off, so it stopped being weird and I'm really curious about more ventures in this direction.

I mean to say that I believe that every story has its own thing, for AC having a male protagonist was just part of AC's thing and that was that; I might have felt differently if I thought Ubisoft was deliberately snubbing women and making sure to stamp out any chance of women being represented as strong and capable assassins, but I never got that sense. (Plus... it's a historical piece. It is perfectly legitimate to portray the Order as having mostly male members, if not all male, considering the various periods introduced, and true to that notion it evolves as the timeline advances. The original, historical Order of Assassins - hashinshin - were most likely exclusively male considering the presumed religious context, so it would have been very hard to keep credibility and suspension of disbelief had AC revolved around a female protagonist.)

Having said that, I truly respect Bioware for making ME with both gender versions; it's a pre-determined protagonist, yet they let you go both ways and that is truly a great thing. I ended up playing with both and I love them both, but the fact that I could choose makes them way more than good in my books: they are beyond awesome.

OK, back to playing Geralt now.  I still have hardly advanced the main quest there's just so much to see! *dazzle-eyes*

Great!!! I have been working on it for 5hours 30 minutes about right now.. and I have done like 25% (because I still need to do the rest of the song and all the editing + all the text on it x_X)

But I decided to upload a preview soon as fast as it has saved the file on youtube of how it looks like right now. I am going to link it here when it's done x3

Also this is for Capricornsun. I had problems multiquoting for some reason.

Okay so here is the PREVIEW

note: It is only about 25-30% of what I am going to do so I MIGHT STILL CHANGE things or FIX things. Also I tried a couple of new things so if some stuff do not look perfect it's cause I am practising with harder video editing. Hopefully you'll still like it. I am also going to put texts on the video later :D
