I saw that Solas booty post the other day and it is worth viewing multiple times.   I just wish I could find the 'wind gusts at Haven' gif I had to accompany such a fine view.

I have no idea how to do the spoiler box thing, so if someone can give me pointers I would greatly appreciate that. Anyway, drove straight off the Cullen romance idea and restarted my game with my elven archer, because I found the whole thing overly saccharine and well kinda a less insecure, but still had personal demons version of Alistair from DA:O.

 

I am enjoying the Solas romance, even though I know it will break my Inquisitors heart. What is it with Bioware and men that do the whole "I am not going to tell you this big important thing because I am afraid of how you will react?" They did it with Anders and now they did it again with Solas. I mean the way you gain approval with both men is by showing them how you are not "most people." Which Solas even comments about, and yet there they both go on to either leave you hanging or with a really big proverbial mess to clean up.

 

Found these two pieces, the first is an interview with Weekes on Iron Bull, Cole, and Solas- with romance discussions as well, It's heavy on spoilers. The second is a meta theory on what Solas says to you after the second romance cut scene

The interview makes me seriously wonder if Lavellen will get anymore interact with Solas in a future DLC, while the second struck a cord with something that has been bothering about the Orb since Solas first mentions it. This may have been discussed before so I apologize for that 4105 pages is a lot of content to read through.

From what we see of Solas he doesn't seem to actually being a terrible person, but I get a LOT of concern when I read some theories. 

What I'm afraid of is Solas hiding a part of himself that would actually warrant him the title of "The Dread Wolf" "The Trickster God." 

His plan could be so important that he would disregard any friendships/love in hopes of achieving his "greater good."

Without knowing what he intended originally and not knowing what he intends to do now, it's so hard to not have doubt given what we know about Fen'Harel.

 

It's hard to express the fear/doubts I have about Solas.

But what I can say is:

1) He gave his orb to CORYPHEUS

2) He lied? Basically. About who he was. (I guess he did get cold feet)

3) His "People" mean a lot to him and his "People" aren't regular elves, the Dalish, or the people of Thedas.

4) He is friends with Flemeth! Who still seeks revenge! 

5) He dumped Lavellan beacuse ...?

For me there is this toss up thing going on between whether I want HOF DLC or a Solas DLC with dialogue that gives a more satisfying close to the romance. I mean the angsty ending we get is fun and all, but given how the game ends it just leaves too many loose ends. I also love my HOF Warden Queen and I would hate it if Bioware wrote an off camera death or blaze of glory thing for them. But I am really taken with wanting more from Solas. There is more complexity going on between the game and the relationship, even if you hated the guy(perish the thought, honestly the only character I disliked with the same passion as I disliked Anora is Vivienne, but that's because I am pro-mage and she's a real ***** if you don't agree with her on all things magic) I really feel like the reveal at the end of the game implies trouble for the Inquisition.

 

Flemeth talks about something happening that should not have happened. Solas is trying to fix something that he did. But we aren't really sure if they are talking about the same event or two separate events. Both have an alternate agenda, Flemeth has been nudging history in a certain direction, or kicking it that way when needed, but all we know it that it is toward some sort of reckoning. Solas' mistake may or may not involve the Elvhen pantheon. Or at least I am not sure if it does. So much of what we thought was true about the fall of the Elvhen turns out to be either just flat out wrong twisted half truths of to quote Dagna "A lot of who said what's." I still feel like we are getting fragmented pieces of what is going on/went on in Thedas in regards to the Blight, the Old Gods, and what happened to the Elvhen. And then there's that Iron Bull dialogue tease about something being up with why the Kossith ended up on this side of Thedas to begin with.

 

I know spinning out the mystery give more opportunity for future games, but at some point you end up with too many irons in the fire.

 

SO I am hoping for some sort of Solas story DLC that wraps some stuff up and gives a clear picture of where the franchise is going next. I mean the end of DA2 left no hesitation that the next game would involve the Mage/Templar conflict. But I am not sure where they are going with Solas. Yes, there is the whole wrong thing for the right reasons possibility, but it seems like he's done that twice now, once in the past (his mistake if you will) and once again with giving Cory his orb. How many times can he make the same mistake?

I know the the Rebel wolf codex entry mentions that it may not have started until the Towers Age, but that doesn't answer why all of the sudden all the elves would start hating Fen'Harel. Especially if he helped avoid some major disaster or freed all the slaves...or whatever it is he did that involved locking away the rest of the Pantheon.

 

Not to mention the fact that I don't think Solas did all of it alone. One conversation withSolas has with Sera is pretty telling that he is experienced in overthrowing a government so to speak, and his advice includes how to deal with your allies and those working for you. Plus you can pretty easily gather the fact that he has been betrayed himself by a group of people in a conversation with the Inquisitor. 

 

So yeah....anyone else smell a conspiracy theory against Fen'Harel? I guess whoever was left in charge needed a scapegoat for problems?...but then again, wouldn't those elves be long gone by the time the Towers Age rolled around?

 

ugh......I'm beginning to think a DLC just won't be enough to answer everything. =( We're going to have to wait years for answers in another game aren't we?

Part of the problem is that the elves lost a lot of their history when they were enslaved by Tevinter.  And most of the stories you get about elven history/mythology is from *one* keeper from one clan.  I've kind of smelled a conspiracy theory when I heard that.  Or the only thing the elves remembered was that Fen'Harel locked the gods away and not WHY or what exactly happened and started to blame him for all of their problems.

 

What concerns me is not so much that we'll have to wait years for another game to get answers about Solas but that we'll also be playing a new protagonist that doesn't have that personal connection.  So as the player we'll be going OMG and as the character we'll be going, Solas who?

O gosh I hope not. I love the stories that Bioware puts out in the Dragon Age Series, but if I have to roll a new protagonist with out getting some answers for my current one I think I may stop playing.
