Well I just got my heart broken... again

This scene is so beautiful, and heart breaking. I am so ready for a Solas dlc. Sorry for all the screen shots.

So, I've been thinking about uthenera and stuff and I had another awesome thought and I feel the need to share it.
What if somewhere out in the grand world of Thedas there is practically a city of ancient elves in uthenera? Like, I'm talking about a catacombs type situation of thousands(even more awesome if it were hundreds of thousands) of ancient elves all sleeping.
I mean, think about it. It must be very possible right? At the Well of Sorrows even Abelas mentions going off to be in uthenera and according to this codex entry from out there, it sounds like the Ancient elves still have new elves being born with the elders going off to uthenera. It even dawned on my that they have elves watching over sleeping elves. Unless there is something I missed, the elf that leads you through the temple kind of comes off like they might be the one who watches over them while they are in stasis or whatever. She( I think it's a she) is not part of the fighting and is walking with a staff like I would kind of imagine an aged ancient elf would walk. Because I guess she would have aged at least a little since she would have to be awake to take care of the other sleeping elves.
I don't know. I just imagine some awesome scene of Lavellan looking at like I said, a city's worth of ancient sleeping elves and Solas saying that these are his People.
Oooooooo! and what if the only way to reach this 'city' is through an eluvian. @.@ And they are all in pain because of to many demons in the world.....because doesn't it say somewhere that demons cause pain for those in uthenera?
They sleep? Hiding behind a mirror? Hurting? And what if they wake up?
*GASP*
*throws off tinfoil hat*
I'm starting to scare myself! Help!

That totally makes sense... Hmmm...
After reading you both, I also need a cup of tea now...
Hehe, I had to make myself some tea after seeing those tea facts.
Also, sharing with you guys a little sketch of my latest Solavellan artwork.
Spoiler
This is really sweet. Can't wait to see it finished. ![]()

*sigh* I need a cup of tea also.
Uthenera has me all sad now. What triggered it was the Cole/Solas banter:
I heard this again yesterday and it dawned on me that waking up from uthenera must be sort of like what Cole is experiencing coming into the real world. Especially if one was asleep for a 1000 years. Then the thoughts of Solas waking up from uthenera...having to deal with the shock of reality.....and potentially alone. Like, waking up is probably pretty painful after such a long time, physically and mentally.
No wonder he would have been to weak to deal with anything, regardless if Cory took the orb or Solas was trying to unlock it and gave it to Cory. Whatever he was trying to do when he woke up probably felt like a monumental task cause he was having to get back to reality.
This story is definitely not a happy one.

Thank you!
I really hope I could finish this soon. xD I'm such a procrastinator, and I have like one other artwork that I really need to finish since a long time back =__=

It definitely happens. I still have a fluffy, mildly smutty one-shot fic that has been bouncing around my head for a while that I have kind of outlined but haven't written.
I keep getting feeeeeeeeeeels-generating Solavellan ideas. Shoo.

Uthenera has me all sad now. What triggered it was the Cole/Solas banter:
- Cole: It's brighter here. Glittering. Glaring. Glinting. I can't...
- Solas: It's a mild tremor in the Veil. Nothing to worry about. Focus on what is here, in this world.
- Cole: But... what is here?
- Solas: Feel the ground, the breath in your lungs, fabric rustling against your skin.
- Cole: (Breathes.)Thank you.
- Solas: It's nothing. It can be overwhelming for anyone.

I always get into these periods of thinking about uthenera and Solas and all of the circumstances.
This is a man who spent a thousand years or more dormant, with his mind in the Fade and then once he awakens back into reality, spends an awful lot of time with his mind in the Fade.
Sad angles everywhere.
I am Team Lone Wolf. There's no 'Solas and Fen'Harel'. There's just Fen'Harel (currently calling himself Solas). We've already had a possessed LI and the Dread Wolf has been set up as an evil god since DAO. Him being a bald nerdy egg instead is just so perfect.
I agree. I really don't think Solas' situation is like Flemythal's where he had to go into some mortal body. Nothing suggests that it is. Mythal's case was a very specific one. I don't see any reason Fen'Harel would have had to possess anyone. I think Solas is Fen'Harel just going by a different moniker. It's possible that this is how he's always looked (though perhaps changing up hairstyles).

Also Weekes said that Cole has always known what Solas is. Something tells me that if Solas was like Flemythal, Cole's comments might have been a little different and hinted at more of a duality of nature.
Cole does comment on Solas being in both places and Solas uses his Fade excuse. It makes me wonder more though if Solas is bound to something in the Fade. Not possesion or anything. Just attached to something that maybe keeps him in touch with what's going on in the Fade even if he is awake. Also Weekes said that Cole has always known what Solas is. "Both places" could really just refer to all the time he spends in the Fade. It can also mean the past and present, since Solas does spend a lot of his time thinking about what the past was like, how things and peoples once were, as well as his past actions/regrets and his present goals/plans. Also, most of the people and places he once knew are forever gone.
And if there is anything he is potentially bound to it is the action from which his misinterpreted legacy eventually grew. He's bound to his past actions, in his own mind, thinks he must atone or fix, keeps people at a distance, believes he must do whatever he must do alone.
I don't know if the both places is necessarily more complicated. I think there's plenty of details and complication already.

I think people are too quick to assume that one god being a wisp and possessing someone = all gods possess someone. The evidence we were given in game very much supports Solas always having been who he is. I also think it takes away from his character if he is just some random elf possessed by a god. It gives more of a chance that Fen'Harel's host body is affecting his thoughts and feelings, rather than having developed as a person over the years.

A good point! Not something I'd considered before.

- Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.
- Solas: I know.
- Cole: But you could let them go.
- Solas: I know that as well.

The old elven gods seem to be something ... different. Perhaps it's entirely possible they can exist in both places (the physical realm and the Fade) simultaneously. Given that Mythal could save a piece of herself and take residence in a mortal seems to suggest that they're not just very powerful mages. So it seems to me that the elven gods, while not "gods" in the sense that the Maker is a god (if one believes in the Maker), are also not simply ancient and powerful elven mages.
Slightly off topic, how did you come up with a name for your character? I am toying with the idea doing a run with a Dalish archer and a tweaked world state that is a little grimmer than my canon play-through.
I've been looking at FenxShiral's work, but I am struggling to understand how to put words together to get a name. From their work, it seems like you take were the two or three words overlap and go from there. Is word order important or not? Sometimes it seems like the names take the beginning of a word while others seem to use the middle or end of a word use in the construction of the name. How do you know which part of a word to use? If any of you have a better grasp on this I would be eternally grateful.
I have asked FenxShiral through their Tumblr, but I think that I might have come off as asking them to create name for me as I character count for asking a question did not allow me to go into detail as to what I was struggling with.
I'm of no help there. I usually go deeply into lore and language and/or real world meanings for my character names but for my Lavellan, I borrowed most of her name from one of my Elder Scrolls elves and added a letter.
They are very, very different characters (ES high elf is a mage, for one). And my Lavellan has become way more meaningful to me.
Sometimes I still see people frothing at the mouth about the Solas telling the truth about vallaslin thing. And I start wondering if they've even ever watched that scene because in no way does he pressure or force you into removing them. In fact, he is perfectly happy and fine with you keeping them. Telling the truth is not necessarily manipulative. Him telling you how he feels about them is not manipulative either. If being honest is manipulative, that's pretty ridiculous. Even he fully recognizes that they're not viewed the same now as they were before and is fine if that's the position you hold. "They're slave markings, or at least they were" is the ad-libbed line. He recognizes that, knowing the truth, you might want them removed and offers to do so. If you refuse, fine. He understands and thinks you're perfect just as you are.
If someone thinks that telling a truth that you deserve to know is abusive because it hurts your feelings, then I really am not sure what to say. Truth is a gift to Solas. Even he's a bit surprised at how much he possibly hurts you because it's probably something he would want to know in your shoes. It's something a Dalish might not want to hear, but should appreciate given their determination to know and understand their own past. The hate I've seen Solas get over this truly baffles me, it really does. Is it because he says how he feels about them and it's not supportive of them? Is he supposed to pretend he's alright with the markings because the Dalish view them differently now? He literally lived in the time when they were used to oppress and mark enslavement. I think it only makes sense that he not change his opinions about them, especially since the Dalish didn't really "reclaim" them. You can't reclaim something when you never even knew what they originally meant and have always thought of them as good, honorable things. However, he's perfectly alright with Lavellan being alright with them, and I think that's pretty darn good.
Sorry for the length! I just saw a post about this again somewhere and it kind of got me going. ![]()
Any idea why Solas gets so pissed if the Inquisitor drinks from the Well?
If the epilogue is any indication, he seems to trust Mythal so I don't get it.
I've seen theories about this. Some think it's because he knows he's going to take Mythal's power, so maybe it's because you'll be under his control after that and he doesn't want that. Then again, some people say he wasn't originally going to go after Mythal until the orb broke, so that would mess up that theory.

Truth is something he values, but beyond that, for Solas, freedom is pretty much his defining value. It's the greatest gift he can offer you other than the absolute truth (which he came there to originally offer anyway). And he offers it to you, consistent with his character, with full freedom of choice. Your choice. And it is for you he's doing it (even while it's a cover story for him chickening out). The whole thing is just so representative of his core values. Freedom of choice, an informed choice, which is also everything you can do to earn his respect (or love) as well -- make informed, thoughtful choices.
I do think lots of people misread Solas, which is unfortunate.

Solas is a big believer in freedom .. of thought, of self. Binding yourself to another being like that, putting yourself completely under someone else's control .. is pretty much anathema to him.

I kind of view them as 'High Elves' and 'Normal Elves'. The Ancient Elves do and don't view the Dalish as their people, and we know that they physically look different as well. Maybe there is a genealogical difference there -- high and low elves. Or maybe the ancient elves were kind of like the (JoH spoiler)

I think it's because he values freedom so much, and if he truly led a rebellion of sorts, then it'd oppose what he worked so hard for. Which of course, leads us in to the question of... well, if they worked together, then why didn't Mythal renounce her slaves?

This is so true. I kind of float around here so I don't see the confusion that goes on with others (since everyone here pretty much gets it). It baffles me if people were to see it any other way, though. And it's adorable how he apologises because he is afraid he may have hurt your feelings. To get high approval with Solas you have to basically seek out truth and knowledge in your actions (and sometimes be a little snarky), and that's pretty much Solas right there. ![]()
