Regarding the breakup, it's one of the things that makes me think that - as much as Solas has some great banter in it - JOH has a lot more resonance for a romanced Lavellan better post-endgame, due to some of history and background of certain characters we discover in it.

That and it's a nice little sign that the breakup didn't stop Lavellan being awesome.

When some people suffer a bad breakup, they seek solace by spending time in a basin filled with icecream... when Lavellan suffers a bad breakup, they interrupt their plans to seek Solas, to instead spend time in a basin fighting a dangerous ice dragon.

Yeah,  I loved my post endgame JoH pt with my canon elven mage.  She had taken it really hard, but after a time she hardened her heart and changed her look, she now wears keeper robes and a orlesian mask to cover her bare face and although she has become even more distant with her companions.  She had never really bonded with any of them apart from maybe Cole... She feels okay but while she definitely considers herself to be single, she is not interested in another relationship.

Maybe Lavellan and Varric should just console each other with some rebound romance. They have plenty in common now.

I also think Lavellans are more likely to get over it than Solas is. She doesn't have all the regret, guilt and baggage. I believe he's suffering more at this point. She has friends and a future. He's bogged down in the past and alone. Post break up banter with Cole happens because Solas is mulling over the break up and not forgetting.

I worry more for him than her.

Varric has a girlfriend!

She's married and they can't be near each other publicly because her family will call out the assassins, but they make it work.

Speaking of JoH, I'm currently playing the DLC and I must say those damn spiders are quite annoying. =___=;

Also, playing it post-breakup but not post endgame because I'm pathetic and want to hear some Solas dialogue and want to have him around with me.

Took Cass, Cole, and Solas with me for this one. Gained some disapproval from Cass because of some pro-spirit stuff dialogue I chose (which is expected I guess). And Cole is a darling.  ^_^

Sorry for not contributing to the break up conversation. I'd add in mine but I'm a bit lazy to type it all out. :P

I still haven't played the DLC.  I took a break from the game to watch Torchwood, but I will also be taking Solas, Cole and Cassandra. I take them everywhere with me.

You should play it one day. :) I took a very long break from DA:I (probably a month or two just waiting for the DLC to come out for PS3) and it's nice to finally get back into the game with new content.

(Also, the Frostback Basin is quite pretty in ways even with the sad PS3 graphics. xD)

I played JOH post breakup but before defeating Cory and ouch it's one kick to the heart after another, Cole saying his thing and all the similarities between Ameridan/Telana. Plus she's still reeling from the Flemeth reveal and the adjusting to the Well.

JOH works post game but after she spent a lot of time in the Hissing Waste trying to come to terms with the breakup she felt she had something to prove by taking Solas with her on what she thought was a pretty straight forward research mission.

Now I can't wait to get to the Ameridan/Telana part. I think I'm still quite a ways from that though. I just found Stone-Bear Hold last night so I'm doing some of the sidequests at the moment. :P

I have to say though, I kinda the Avvar's view on spirits so far. And I just found the Geldauran's Claim codex entry. Need to know more about this guy!

Cole refers to both Solas and Lavellan in that banter. He feels both of their pain. Like that mutual friend caught in the middle when a couple breaks up. It genuinely felt awkward afterward with that banter, Cassandra's banter, talking to Solas after the breakup.....and yet still going to the rotunda all the time anyway.

I've gotten permission to use the boat but I haven't been to the island yet since I'm busy doing sidequests on the mainland. xD

All the feels you say? Damn, I'd better prepare myself...

Ugh, I was not expecting a freight train of feels when I brought Cole to the island.  Up until then, the DLC had mostly been fun exploration, too many spiders, and bits of interesting lore.  Then WHAM.  Feels.

At the end of the day, Lavellan has dealt with a ridiculous amount of nonsense. Honestly, she would probably take being told that Solas is Fen'Harel pretty well because what has she not dealt with at this point. Being told that you fell in love with one of your own gods and he dumped you because of some world altering plan he has would probably just seem like a normal day in the life for Lavellan.

That or it would be the final straw to ruin. Depending on the Lavellan I suppose.

All the nonsense had a definite "Arthur Dent-ing" effect on my Lavellan.  Very little fazes her anymore, and she treats all the weird stuff as though it's normal and takes it in stride.  Because if she actually sat down and thought about how scary/bizarre her life has gotten, she's probably take a serious hit to sanity.

Killing a god?  Been there, done that.  The Great Game?  Tuesday.  Ex-boyfriend's Fen'Harel?  Figures

Ah! I just finished that quest. Good thing my Lavellan's an archer so she could let Cass and Cole deal with that thing up close while she just hangs in the back with Solas. xD

Feels. Bring Cole. Got it. Oh god...

I am not sure how my Lavellan is going to react. I haven't actually gotten there in the game yet. I rushed a bit through the main quests and did not balance out my play-through between side quests, companion quests, and main story, so I got to the point where the next main quest was the Temple of Mythal and I kinda got bored with all the stuff I had to do. So I when back to a way earlier save and now am working through the game trying to balance out the quests more, well at least between main quests and companion quest.

My sense is that she will not take it well. I don't really do multiple play-throughs with games like this because I don't really see my decisions being all that different from my initial run. Though I did start but never finished, an Elf-Mage play through in Origins where I was going to be more pragmatic and romance Zevran. I don't do "evil" choice characters, it's just not my thing. The reason why I see my Lavellan not handling the break-up well is because her clan has been destroyed (yeah I know I could fix this, but I won't), though I don't really see her wanting to go back even if they had survived. Between Solas and the Inquisition, she's not very Dalish anymore, and I already see her as being a bit of an outlier when it comes to her clan anyway. My headcanon has her and her twin sister (if I ever do go back to my orignal rogue archer play-through) as being something of a thorn in the Keeper's side because they would constantly ask questions and challenge any inconsistencies they found in Dalish lore. My headcanon also has the Keeper training both Enaris and Elleari  as potential first/seconds, because they both had the potential to be mages but only Enaris' actually manifested. SO yeah, she's lost her clan, her twin, and now Solas has/will walk out on her- I really don't see this going well, but as to what she does specifically in reation to it all my brain hasn't gotten there yet.

In terms of JOH, which is more interesting in terms of the romance? post or pre breakup. After spending all of DA2 running around with Fenris, Varric, Anders, and Origins with Leliana, Wynne, and Alistair, I am finding it interesting that I don't really have a core group for this game. It's more like, okay who's the best to take with me for this area or this quest. Like my dragon slaying team is Solas, Cassandra, and Iron Bull- with Backwall thrown in on occasion just for mixing up banter triggers. The only real constant in my party is Solas.

I am running around with Sera atm, as I have unfortunately messed up ability tree for some of my characters. My though initially was 'well wouldn't it be fun if Viv got all Cold abilities because she is an ice queen, Solas got all of the spirit tree because he loves spirits and Dorian got all the fire abilities because he is hot'? Following the same stupid non-logic with Rogues that left Sera with archery, Varric with sabotage and Cole with a sneaky Subterfuge. Turns out just Subterfuge tree with Assassin tree doesn't work that well!  :pinched:   or at least doesn't work for me  :( Cole dies A LOT and ALL THE TIME, which is why I have Sera and no 'hellos' to Spirits :(

I was a rogue with dual wield, pieces of the subterfuge tree, and assassin. But the game doesn't always do AI rogues that well. You can respec your characters at any time. That's what I did to Cole. I gave him archer + assassin and crafted him a bow with guard on hit, so he could come with me for JoH (I am usually my only team rogue).

Solas has some interesting dialogue in JoH, and I played it pre-breakup to hear his dialogue (though it's not romance-specific).  From a story perspective, though, I much prefer it post-breakup or even post-game.  It's a nice reality check for Lavellan, and there are definitely story parallels between her and Ameridan.

:( Cole dies A LOT and ALL THE TIME, which is why I have Sera and no 'hellos' to Spirits :(

Craft daggers for Cole that both generate guard-on-hit, and plant fire runes on them. He'll still be a bit squishy, but the guard-on-hit (I think it's Fade-touched Obsidian) helps a lot. And stack as much melee defense and cold resist gear on him as you possibly can.

Yeah Cole needs babysitting sometimes when you bring him along, particularly in JoH which is harder than the main game (often I leave my near-invincible Knight Enchanter PC to fend for herself while I play him) but he's totally worth it in that DLC! His comments are great! I particularly enjoy his cheerful "Hello!" to the spirits the Augur summons when you first meet him.

I think whatever the case with Solas, JoH is best played either very, very close to the endgame or post-game. It resonates more with an Inquisitor who has slogged through all the hardships that being Inquisitor entailed. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I didn't see much that particularly reflected Solas and Lavellan other than a sense of lost love and duty before all.

As for the breakup discussion, I firmly believe that Solas takes this whole mess much worse than Lavellan ever could. He has a lot of tragedy and pain surrounding that choice of his so he definitely seems the more wounded party to me in the aftermath. Lavellan is upset, of course, but she has much more pressing matters at hand both before and after Solas leaves (as of now. I'm sure when she figures out what Solas is doing, that will become a priority too). She has to figure out what to do in the aftermath of Corypheus and what to do with this massive force she's built up before someone decides it needs to be knocked down and knocked down hard. Solas is a concern in that he's clearly up to something and seems conflicted about it, so Lavellan both worries about what he might be doing and what it might be doing to him.  It's not like he's dead so grief isn't exactly sinking in post break up and post-game. Just sadness and worry.

Off topic, but I get the unfortunate feeling that the Inquisitor might go through one of the infamous PC disappearing acts after DAI and other companions possibly go off on their own too. That would free the Inquisition to get taken over by someone else and become a not so great influence on Thedas. I don't know, I just get the feeling that something is destined to go wrong within the Inquisition eventually and turn people against it. Or maybe I'm just influenced by what was done with the Grey Wardens.

I don't mind my Inquisitor disappearing from the public eye, either going off to quietly close rifts or taking inspiration from the Avvar and creating a new clan with a permanent settlement in the Arbour Wilds, her odds of survival increase the further she is away from the Herald of Andraste madness.

It's them messing with the headcanon endings I had for my HOFs, Cousland in particular, that I'm mad about.

I think we're going north for the next few games where the Inquisition has little influence and when we come back it could easily be that another 10 years have passed.
