ugh guys, so I've finally got to What Pride Had Wrought on my second Solavellan playthrough.

I'm agonising over who to bring this time - my first time it was Solas (of course), Cole (who was pretty cool as usual, although not too insightful), and Blackwall (whose total amazement is pretty fun, and relatively respectful). This time I'm brining along Solas (duh), and also tossing up Dorian or Sera (my quizzy likes them both a lot albeit she often has to her tongue in conversation, and finds them both trying after a while - I reckon she may struggle not to punch Sera in the face afterwards) and then Cassandra, begrudingly, because I need a tank and fancy destroying my slowly-built relationship with her (regret not specialising as a KE now). Ideally I'd take along an all-mage party - I want to see Vivienne take snipes at Morrigan - but we'd die in seconds and I'm a total completionist when it comes to dungeons. Damn game mechanics.

I might just try an all-mage party just to see what happens. For science.

Tell me how that goes, it might get me to recruit Vivienne this time if the banter is fun.

There is also another view of the markngs that Lavellan can take: the view that it doesn't matter what they meant then, it's what they mean now that's important.

Late response is late but yeah, that's true. But that's really insulting considering the Dalish suffer from major diaspora and for all their claims of trying to hold onto their roots. I understand more and more why Abelas was upset when he saw the markings on Lavellan's face. But at the same time, things change especially if you're not around to keep things with your people in check after 1000 years. So idk. I can't pick a side since no one is "in the wrong." It's really up to the player's canon.

I don't believe Solas lacks tact. I think he believes that truth is more important than anything and sometimes the truth is hard to hear. So now the Quiz knows the truth about the vallaslin and knowledge is power. She can do with it what she wants. She can keep the markings or ask him to remove them. He respects her either way. But I think for Solas arming a person with knowledge and giving them freedom of choice is number one.

I DO believe he wasn't prepared to tell her that info at that precise moment so it comes across a bit awkward. The writers stated that Solas took the Quiz out there to tell her the "TRUTH" but chickened out. I don't think it was tact he was missing at that moment, it was courage.

Oh, I wasn't doubting that at all. Solas is absolutely by far one of the most logical and compassionate characters on the team bar none. This post is a perfect analysis of those attributes. I also feel like he loves and loves recklessly out of all the characters and it's perfect...which is why he didn't exactly think things through. Regardless of what people think of the scene in the caves (I personally loved it and kinda wish there were clearer signs that he was gonna tell her :D), he can still be insensitive and tactless. I mean, the dude gets upset when you choose to be sensitive about telling a sister she just lost her brother—funny comic about it. Again, his lack of sensitivity/tact doesn't make him any less compassionate and logical. I love his character/romance more than any other character but he's not without flaws.

I guess I'll stop criticizing Solas now lol later days.

Varric has a girlfriend!

She's married and they can't be near each other publicly because her family will call out the assassins, but they make it work.

That isn't a real relationship in my opinion. What's the point if you can't be together? She married someone else so I don't consider Bianca a gf. She is the love of his life but that's different from a committed gf.

They're committed in their own way. It has been 15 years. They somehow figure out how to make it work because they want it to. Not something I would want in real life but also not an unheard of situation.

I did a all mage run in the Arbour Wilds and it was GLORIOUS!

Viv and Morrigan had this hissing cat fight at the entrance, Dorian was all Nooooo! at Abelas' history titbit and Solas was there to point out Morrigan knew a lot less than she claimed but was drooling over the idea of the Well nonetheless.

He can't have been surprised by Lavellan's unwillingness to hand over the Well's power to Morrigan, I like to think he knows my girl better than that.

Luckily there's nothing that needs bashed or picked and they had no real problem with combat.

Just a note about Guard On Hit, the same value doesn't stack so +3 or 5 on both daggers is redundant but if you put 5 on one and 3 on the another you get +8 Guard On Hit.

Bianca's in a political-economic relationship with a man she probably has some fondness for (I imagine that she'd have just bombed the groom instead of running away if she disliked him), and in a very complicated love relationship with Varric. So yeah, like Cee sees, not unheard of. More common than one would think, sadly. :(So it's a relationship that barely survives because neither party can let go, and because Varric's a good enough shot to survive the occasional bout of assassins.

That, yes, there's just that certain sadness to it. You can't exactly call it happy, but it is something neither wants to let go of. And some part of it will work as long as they're in that position. Varric cares so deeply.

Well put. Though I don't think she would have bombed him. After all, she married him for family pressure and protecting her family prevents her from taking any actions. I bet if she didn't have family she would just risk Carta issues and get together with Varric.

I'm picturing a Thedas travel film following Varric, Bianca, and her enormous and very grumpy family as they run from kingdom to kingdom from the Carta.  The van suburban nug breaking down, heat waves, bickering over food supplies, one of the little dwarf children stealing Crossbow Bianca, the works.

Eeh, a roadmovie. Very well, as long as it doesn't suddenly break down like From Dusk Till Dawn. Though then again, vampires appearing would even sorta make sense in Thedas. And don't forget to add in the constant banter and bickering Varric has to take from Bianca.

Ha ha!

Here is the actual translation of what Solas says to Abelas at the Well of Sorrows:

"I'm totally dating this hot elf but I'm going to have to break her heart soon and run off. By all means, you have my blessing to help her recover from her misery. She is obsessed with ancient elves, have fun Abelas"

We all know and understand now.

I really love Solas, but...   That would be kind of really awesome.  Now I'm going to have that scene play out in my head. How embarrassing.

That's pretty much how I imagine my Lavellan too. And the bolded part... jeez when I went back to the rotunda and talked to Solas, only to find that wall of ice. Ouch. I'd have liked some of the companions acknowledging that too, maybe giving you support if you have a good relationship with them; if they had time to only implement a couple lines, I'd rather have that than Sera's comment if you have your vallaslin removed...

I played with a post-breakup, before endgame save and brought Solas along. When I heard

Spoiler

I would have loved that. I like Sera's comments because it's a slap in the face and it suits her relationship to Lavellan perfectly, kind of twisting the knife. I also like the interaction you have with Josie, but I was just waiting for someone else to please comment on not just the vallaslin missing but on the fact that suddenly Lavellan is very conspicuously miserable. (I know she was miserable because Cole said so! Haha, alright, I know that's not a good point because Cole sees into people. BUT STILL.) In fact, in general I like having lots and lots of various feedback from companions. (I used to spend endless hours just wandering back and forth across banter triggers to get my companions to talk to my LI about our romance. Perhaps I shouldn't admit that, though... I was so pleased when I discovered I could make related comments in response to banters, that is just great!  :D )

The Anchor makes Lavellan hard for Cole to read so she must be pretty miserable for him to pick up on it. :D

I deliberately have the card game take place post break-up because it comes across like everyone's trying to cheer Lavellan up and show their support.

Don't be embarassed. Abelas is hot and we all know it.

On another note I just read an article thingy that pointed out the parallels there are between Fen'Harel and the Maker. Now, I know that this probably goes beyond tinfoil hat territory and into the deep end of crackpot theory but I actually think it would be very interesting if the individual the Chantry has labeled as the Maker in the events around Andraste was actually Solas. Here's the part of the article that intrigued me. Spoilered for length or whatever.

Spoiler

I mean....if Solas being the Maker in some instances were the case that would mean we are now on strike 3 of Solas trying to fix the world. Which can only mean one of two things.

Strike 3=Bad= The Fen'Harel F@cked UUUUUUUUUPPPPPP Age!!!!

or

Third Time's A Charm=Good= Elven Glory Age!!!!

His resume speaks more in favor of Strike 3=Bad.

Oh, and let's just add in the whole "It's been a long time" thing from Solas. Yeah, his last girlfriend was Andraste then.

Also, how nuts of a bomb would THAT be to drop of Lavellan. I mean, people are calling her the Herald of your boyfriend's ex.

#Lavellan DITL

It works. You know it does.

Edit: Have some Solas! who doesn't love Captaincaranis screenshots!

Its so horrible talking with Solas about the breakup.  My first Lavellan heard him out and it was agonising and frustrating because he is impenetrable but for my second Lavellan who is a much more serious and assertive character I found walking away from him as he's blabbing on about reasons why Lavellan may have confronted him to be quite a satisfying way of dismissing him.  He cuts to the standard goodbye which she ignores and that is the last time she speaks to him (until the post Cory battle which she's not done yet)

Haha, I laughed at that. But it's really not that surprising, I mean, the Inquisitor makes several appearances in the Fade, which mortals are definitely not supposed to be able to do...

Yeah...I'm doomed if elves became a real race in this world. Doomed.

I'd be in real trouble, too.  :D  Hopefully I'd be dazzled by one particular elf and I would be blind to the rest, but... we know that's impossible.  :D It's terrible enough having heartstrings tugged at multiple fictional elves, I'm not sure I'd survive it if they were real.
