*snip*

I really like Dragon Age's take on elves - it's a real change of pace from most standard fantasy, and I think it makes playing them much more engaging and exciting. And I love Lavellan - so no regrets there.

*snip*

I agree with this - in fact, I'm far more enchanted with elves in worlds like DA where they are portrayed as really part of the world: they suffer loss and discrimination, they carry pain and hate and all in all, they struggle, as all the other races do in their own way. I'm drawn to tragedy far more than I am to beauty, I think, yet the combination I find to be very gothic, and that suits me just fine. But as I said, I really like other races, too, in DA I find the dwarves particularly fascinating, yet I find the loss of the elves to be far more poetic, so it resonates with me on a much more emotional level.

It's funny that you mention this.

I make perfume in my spare time as a hobby. I was recently thinking of how Solas might smell. (I bet he smells sooooo good! )

I'm thinking something like; airy musk, a hint of lavender, soft cotton, some papyrus/dusty tome, perhaps a bit of patchouli for a slightly feral edge. rawr!

Mmm....patchouli. Yes. I agree with your smell guess.

Yeah....I am drawn to tragedy to. Even down to the music I listen to. Which is all weird because I tend to think of myself as a relatively happy person, but seriuosly......the best stories, music.....just stuff in general. Tragic.

Interesting! I imagine his smell like vetiver, papirus, fig leaf with strong citrus and woodsy notes.

Yep, that describes me, too. It makes perfect sense - you give room for that kind of emotion to express itself, therefore it need not inundate you in other areas of life. Anyway, happy stories (and music, and...) are just garish.  :D

We need to start a clan. And find this lady and she can be our Keeper.

And why do I have the feeling that half the people of this thread are going to be going candle shopping soon to find the perfect Solas scent.

Or would it be incense......mmmm......maybe an oil diffuser?

I imagine Solas smells a lot like his tea, which I have yet to buy. :( This had better still be available around Christmas.

Light some candles, burn a little incense and pop the game in. Make an evening out of it! :wizard:

Solas is totally worth it!

Interesting!

Sounds like a tasty blend. And the tin is nice...although some text on the front stating "Drink me in " would've been a nice touch.

I've also been thinking about what Solas smells like recently, for fic-writing purposes. :)

I would agree on something woody, and maybe something engaging like patchouli or eucalyptus, along with musk, but I would also add notes of something dark as well as something kind of fancy, maybe saffron.

Hmm, maybe something like this: http://www.basenotes...ID26142196.html

Some arts. :P

I'm not sure how these slipped pass my radar and I don't know if they've been posted before, but here are some lovely Solas/Solavellan artworks by nanananananablr. (Gosh, the name xD)

Hooded Solas

Solas and Lavellan with the infamous failed restoration of that Jesus painting.

Lavellan kissing Solas.

Another romantic (but sad-ish) Solavellan art.

And works by other artists:

Cute artwork of Solas and osatokun's Lavellan by karininini.

"Bread wolf bake you!"

A very nice Solas sketch.

Another Solas sketch.

Solas Pokemon trainer sprite.

DA:I and ME doodles.

More hooded Solas.

I keep seeing that painting one show up over the last few days and it makes me laugh every time. I love it.

Also, if anyone hasn't read it, Bread Wolf is a cute/light modern AU.

I should catch up since I think she added to it. I think it began as a punny drabble/prompt but people asked her for more.

Oooh! Interesting. I just subscribed to her fic on AO3. xD I need my dose of modern AU Solavellan fics.

Speaking of modern AUs, I hear that this modern AU Solavellan fic called flower/ink is pretty good. Haven't read it myself but Solas is a florist and Lavellan is a tattoo artist.  ^_^

So many fics to read, so little time. D:

ooh, Bread Wolf. *favourites*

flower/ink is really adorable and probably one of my favourite Solavellan modern AUs (I usually hate modern AUs as a rule, but there's a couple of good Solavellan ones). It's genuinely quite funny. And portrays Lavellen's friendships with characters like Leliana and Varric really well. I particularly really like how it retells Solas' rebellious political past in a modern setting - All New, All Faded For Her is translated into a modern setting in the best way.

ALSO OH MY GOD TEA. Does it ship to England? I need this in my life. (I know, I know, representing all the national clichés here).

I can see where you're coming from now.  We see the choice differently because of our own experiences (and that's what makes RPGs and talking about RPGs so much fun!)

Yeah, I just really really hope the Dalish don't get retconned again because I feel like it'd be so ignorant and ooc if they met older elves who knew more and responded like, "Yeah, but this is our interpretation now so you can go bye!" Like nobody irl would do that—and if they did, it'd be a very small minority. Most of us would be like, "Oh okay, my bad I'm so sorry. I won't do it again." I like what they did with Lavellan and how they accept and respect new info, regardless of whether or not they agree with it so that gives me some hope for the future of Dalish clans.

The separation of the Dalish into microsocieties of their own could technically lead to some skepticism with regards to this view/acceptance of the new knowledge. One would hope that if a Lavellan does try to spread some of the information learned, there would be more open minds and less 'well she's gone crazy/that mark ahs done something to her/where's the proof? etc' ---which is going to be part of my return to clan fic that I should really get to actually writing.
