I really don't get why someone who clearly hates Dragon Age/Mass Effect would spend their time here.  There are some folk I've come close to blocking, but not yet.
 

 

He is one very special case. Although I must admire his dedication. I feel if I was as passionate about my career as he is about Cassandra's appearance then I would be earning big bucks by now 

 

I can understand what it's like to be a fan of a series and find a game come out from it that is disappointing. I've had that. But I only ever talk about my disappointment when it happens to come up in conversation. My moaning won't change what happened and I'll just make myself sad if I spent all my time dwelling on it. 

I'd much rather sit and dwell on all my crazy DA headcanons. I'll keep dreaming up plots until I get more story

My dream team is Solas, Cole and Cassandra also. They just get along so well! And it's like the perfect balance in the group. Not just game mechanic wise, but personality, beliefs....everything.

 My exact same party, they're awesome together. On my normal run I had Dorian instead of Cass though...3 mages for the win and Dorian provided that little bit of humor that is very much appreciated every now and then

 

I don't have the DLC yet but I'm planning to buy it soon. I know playing it after Cory probably has more meaning, but I am very conflicted. I'm so used to having Solas in my party that I don't know if I could manage without him.

When I see that armor on Solas, all I think about is Lavellan helping him apply the paint/mud. Because oh yes she would! Those are some solid elf pecs and rubbing paint on them doesn't seem like the worst job in the world.

That stuff reminds me of clay skin cleansing masks I've used on my face. But I do think that she would definitely enjoy the application.

That isn't a real relationship in my opinion. What's the point if you can't be together? She married someone else so I don't consider Bianca a gf. She is the love of his life but that's different from a committed gf.

So I never said anything about words on paper? I could care less about marriage and all the formalities surrounding it so I politely ask that those assumptions not be aimed my way.

They have a deep bond but it's hard for me to image life would be fulfilling when your lover is spending their life with another. Varric and Bianca can't build a life. It seems like an exercise in pain and I like Varric as a character too much to be a fan of that. I also didn't get the impression that they could do much more than write to each other and very rarely meet. Neither seemed happy, although it makes a good story!

Relationships are very hard to build on little stolen moments here and there. I'm just not convinced because I don't get the impression that Varric is excited about his lot either. Be it a "western" concept or not, I think he would prefer to have Bianca to himself. That's the vibe I get anyway.

Slight off-topicness, but something popped into my head when I was thinking about the relationship between Archdemons, Magisters and Wardens;

If Corypheus and the Architect are two of the original magisters and thus the progenitors of the Darkspawn, then that would mean their blood and version of the taint is probably different than those that came afterwards, since both are apparently unable to hear the Calling?

 

(Corypheus wouldn't have needed a fake Archdemon otherwise, he'd have gone for the OG itself if he could sense where they were?)

 

Being one of the "sources" of the Darkspawn probably means that his blood has it's own special properties, which could be how the Architect was able to create the Awakened Darkspawn, using his blood (mixed with Warden blood) to remove the Calling entirely.

 

We know that Archdemon blood has similar unique properties, which is why the Wardens use a drop of it in the Joining Ritual, mixed into regular Darkspawn blood, to allow them to prevent ghoulification for a time?

 

That's also probably the real reason why Archdemons get destroyed trying to jump into a Warden, as the presence of the Archdemon blood in both parties somehow cancels each other out. Hence why Corypheus can jump into another Warden with no problem, since he doesn't carry Archdemon blood within him, (Warden bodies don't carry enough to affect each other, hence why one dying doesn't kill the guy next to them, so Corypheus can survive the process even while using a Warden host), as well as how the Archdemon can jump into nearby Darkspawn who lack that same blood-type. The whole "soul" explanation is actually false.

 

The Awakened being self-aware and free from the Calling could be the result of having three different blood-types inside them (and perhaps versions of the taint), the regular stuff that all Darkspawn carry, that carried by the Progenitors (Magisters such as the Achitect and Corypheus) and Archdemon blood (carried by the Wardens)...

It would make sense. There are all kinds of references to blood being different, just take Kieran's comments on different Inquisitors as an example.
I kind of wonder if the magisters don't hear the Calling because maybe they created it somehow. I mean, they essentially cast an insane blood magic spell to break into the Golden City, right? And Corypheus said at least his reason was to serve the Old Gods in person I believe. If that was the intent behind a blood magic spell on that level and then the Blight got mixed in somehow......maybe that was the backlash of the spell so to speak. Anything with Blighted blood in them has the insane need to find the Old Gods because of a lingering magic song they hear.

And to bring Solas into the equation, he does talk about magic being like a symphony.

My theory on that:

 Likely blood magic was used on the 'intelligent darkspawn' that works differently than whatever blood magic was used on the darkspawn themselves. As you say, they started it. If the Old Gods truly taught the magisters blood magic (beginning with Thalsian), then they could have had them magick their bodies physically in an attempt to 'become closer to god'. This is, of course, assuming blood magic is to blame for Blight. And blood is a physical necessity to this mix, so with body hopping I think it still has to do with spirits on some important level.

Now as for Cory, well... we know the Wardens know where the Old Gods are imprisoned. Do the magisters know as well? Coryphefish wouldn't have been able to find 'his' old gold because Dumat was supposedly slain. I underline supposedly. We also know they (the magisters) worshipped the Old Gods, and I doubt they expected to find the dragons they worshipped in the Golden City, since they were all underground. If they were simply hoping to fill a vacant throne, then why did Cory seem surprised to find it empty (or was it my imagination?). Cory definitely seems to go through a phase where he believed in his gods, and then doesn't. But... I don't know that much about the Warden/Darkspawn histories, so feel free to correct anything I just said.

While we are on the theory train, I like reading this tidbit that Gaider posted many years ago. After two WoT books, and after DA: Inquisition as well as learning a bit more about the Elven Pantheon, the players, and of course Fen'Harel himself... I feel I have a strong advocacy for the Old Gods/Forgotten Ones theory now. Excerpt from the Gaider post:

Could the Old Gods have been based on the elven gods? Possibly, but there's nothing to suggest the elven gods were ever dragons, and certainly the contempt the Imperium held for elven culture makes it unlikely that they would think elven gods were worth worshipping. Consider also that it was the Old Gods that taught humanity its magic and encouraged them to destroy Arlathan -- why would elven gods do this? One could point to the Forgotten Ones (look at the codex entry on Fen'Harel for their mention) and suggest that they had reason for vengeance, though that would probably be against Fen'Harel and their good brethren and not against the elven people themselves, no? Still, all of that depends on how much of the knowledge given by Dalish tales is complete.

My tin foil hat theory? The Blight might just be some big blood magic ritual put together by the Old Gods/Forgotten Ones, and that is why they had the Magisters enter the Golden/Black City in the flesh. The OGS is something entirely different, maybe a strong spirit acting as a seal at the behest of Fen'Harel (which I've mentioned before, nothing new there).
