Hi guys, can I ask you something? I might need help with Solas romance. I'm going through it for the first time and so I'm not sure if it progresses correctly. Namely, my concern is his greeting. I've done the Fade kiss part, "All New..." (though it disappeared from the "Completed Quests" part of the Journal), I've got the balcony scene and "Ar lath ma, vhenan" line, but when I came to talk to Solas after that, his greeting didn't change. I've heard he should call Lavellan "my heart" or "vhenan" now? He just says "hello". Did I screw something up?

I haven't done "Measure Veil Strength" and "What Lies Dormant" yet. Could it be the problem? Or maybe there's no problem at all and I just worry too much? When is his greeting supposed to change?

It's random. So you'd have to click on him a bunch.  He says 'hello' to a romance inquisitor as well.  Sometimes that. And then sometimes the other two.  You didn't screw up it seems.

I think it's random. Sometimes he says hello, or vhenan, or my heart. I remember I used to leave the conversation and come back if he was saying hello, until I get a cuter greeting

Phew! Good to know, thanks! I just went to ask Sera's opinion on Solas, and she gave me that "You're in love with him!" reply, so it looks like I'm okay. I'll go annoy Solas until he calls me "my heart" now. Just to be absolutely sure

I usually go bug Solas after talking to Cullen so that his 'I'm sure you have more important things to be getting on with' leads into several minutes of clicking on Solas until he greats me with 'vhenan'.

Haha, that's exactly what my Hawke did! Then in MotA Fenris' reply changed to "I am yours, as always", in this slightly tired, patient manner, and I could almost see him sigh and shake his head in desperation Like he was saying, "Yes yes, I am yours. Stop it already." Aww

I agree about the kids thing.  While my Lavellan would probably like to have children with Solas, it's not something I'd want forced on the player (especially for those that play their Lavellan as ace).  It's far more likely that it's just the fact that she's an elf - a Dalish elf - who changes Solas' mind on modern elves and the Dalish.  I think the romance could've still been compelling with a City elf but it would lose part of the impact.

 

I agree that I wouldn't want it to be a forced thing. I don't think they would go there, as even the ritual leading to Kieran was entirely optional. My Lavellan's situation depends. With Solas, I think she would've settled down and possibly chose children at some point. I think, for her, she has spent a lot of time in a caretaker and protector type role, especially as the oldest child in her family and in her clan responsibilities. But she has also been in relationships with women and I don't think they have a magic spell for same sex procreation, although an adoption of some sort would've been welcome if things had progressed to a formal bonded relationship.

 

Now, as the Inquisitor, I think another shift is on the responsibilities she has as this leader and the danger she is also potentially in, and whether or not that would be a good idea. My headcanon isn't completely solidified on this yet.

The only reason I'd want my Lavellan to have kids with Solas is because it'd be damn cute, and not to create any chekhov's demigod children. I think this is also possibly a crucial reason why there's no on-screen sex scene (asides from recognising ace fans ) and why this is unlikely to happen. The trope has already been used - and by the looks of it, discarded - by Bioware with Kieran. It's a very unusual gambit to play with a fair bit of risk involved likely, so it's unlikely to come up twice.

 

I mean, realistically, given Solas' unshakable political commitments to saving 'his people', as well as his total absence from the scene with no strong enough reason to return, he'd also be the worst father in this point of time.

The bolded part....I have been playing TW3 for the past month+, and just now got back to DAI. I decided to play a bit of my Samhal Lavellan (Cass' beau ), but it had been so long since I had played around with him, I couldn't remember where he was in the story. I began looking through the quest journal, and I couldn't find "All New, Faded For Her" listed in either the completed or "pending" parts of the Journal. Set off to see Solas in the rotunda, and he just starts barking about the GW's (since I figured out I hadn't yet done Adamant, this must have been regarding the encounter with Hawke/Stroud, in the Western Approach). I looked at the map for the Exalted Plains, and the area that the quest takes place in, IS in fact "open" (not fogged out/black). Still though, it would be really nice if this was not glitched. LOL! Especially for someone like me who bounces around between different PC's. (yeah...I'm really bad about that. )

Oh! And it should be noted, he definitely is chummy with Samhal, even if they have had the occasional "bumping heads". I have had other PC's that had a rockier start, that still got ANFforH by this point in the story.

Hmmm.....should probably post a ticket about it, since they are beta testing another patch.

I've been casually replaying some DA2. Fondly remembering the days when I could actually run games on the highest settings and have everything look pretty while not lagging. Testing the no spider mods I have installed later.

I do this too. I once went up to him and got "My friend" after the romance started and I remember promptly leaving the conversation, walking out of the rotunda, then walking back in while grumbling that this time it had better be "my heart" or Solas was going to be in trouble.
