Ugh me too. Not a fan of this tightly zipped lips policy. All I want to know is if I have something to look forward to.

To quote an Orlesian soldier: "Tired of waiting around." XD

Whatever it is they're cooking up, it better be good. And hopefully it involves Solas....

They are definitely working on things. It's a matter of time before there's an announcement though. :/ Now that JoH is out for all, there might be more MP things, but they do know we want story.

I think we'll have to wait for more Solas even beyond whatever is next, but I'm still looking forward to some new adventures. I hope it's at least like JoH in that it's tied in well, even if it has nothing to do with Solas.

(But believe me, I do want more Solas :P)

So there is something that has been bothering me ever since I did All New, Faded For Her for the first time. I tried looking this up but I didn't find anything.

At first, Solas seems distraught. Ok that's normal.

Then he smiles/smirks after the PC says "Let me know if I can help". That... seems a bit weird...

But then he goes back to being angry then sad and takes off to mourn. Normal reaction.

Something about him smiling with his back turned seemed... odd. I was like "Mmkaaay. What was that about? People don't usually smile when they're grief stricken."

What does everyone else think about this?

EDIT: Or maybe they were trying to go for the forced smile that a grieving person gives to acknowledge a sentiment from a friend and somehow it came off slightly creepy?

Pretty sure it's that. Nothing suggested he was anything but 100% genuine during that quest.

Also, is anybody else actually pretty nervous about "Wolf Hunt"? There's so much potential for Solas' character arc to go in a bad, irredeemable direction and I'm afraid of that happening. This sounds silly, but I really don't want 90% of the fandom constantly hating on Solas a la Anders. That would get old fast.

I think he's just thrown off by the PC's concern for him, given that they just helped a spirit of all things. It's not something anyone but Solas would normally care about since most people fear spirits/demons. And given how important this particular spirit was to Solas, I think he just really appreciates the Inquisitor's help at that moment.

I was a massive Anders fan during Awakening, where I think his complexity and bitterness was really well masked by this carefree attitude, and really disappointed with the execution of his character development in DA2, where those facets were laid bare so often it got irritating. People have layers and hidden depths and they just cut all of those out in DA2, without giving us more to go on (I'm still disappointed I don't know anything about Anders' family, for instance, or exactly why he wants to free mages so much in proportion to other characters). I'm so very glad I wasn't into dragon age when DA2 came out.

So yes, I'm in agreement with RynJ. I'm pretty afraid they'll screw up Solas in Wolf Hunt/DA 4. Especially because the last cutscene implies a shift in direction for his character.

I didn't think it wasn't genuine but it did throw me off a little. And yes, I am a little nervous but I'm also trying to be optimistic about "Wolf Hunt". I think that even if Solas turns out to be a villain, I'd still like his character.

I've never found Anders' motives murky. I think he's pretty straightforward about why he feels the way he does about the Circle and mage freedom overall. No, we don't meet his family. We don't even know his real name. but these elements also work to give clues to his character and motivations. If you played Awakening, then you know the first time you run into him, he's fleeing again. I think his character progression worked, because in DA2 it's Anders and Justice/Vengeance, so things are getting more and more desperate over time. But then again, I'm not one of those 'Anders - the worst" people. My Hawke spared him and ran off with him in a friendmance, after all. :P

I trust Patrick Weekes and the team not to screw up Solas. Weekes loves the character, and I trust him with characters in general. Also, I don't think they would basically go through three games of Fen'Harel hints and such and then squander it. Solas has a role as yet unknown in the future of the series, whether that's resolved in DLC or in the next game (and I believe something will carry over).

Thank you, Capricorn, for the Ameridan picture spam. :D

Now I'm torn as to how to suit up in the Ameridan armor for my Necromancer playthrough. Hmm.

So I recently bought Napoleon: Total War for two dollars as part of the Humble Bundle. I knew if I waited long enough it would fall within my price range.

I don't really hear much about NTW from other TW fans. Just burning its predecessor Empire on a pyre and praising its successor Shogun 2 to the Fade and Beyond. (Deservedly so.

But by God, was this a hidden gem for me.  ^_^ It's fantastic. And it opened on a fun note, too. A dramatic, alternate history trailer of Napoleon triumphant, with the Corsican Ogre himself voiced by none other than Riordan/Stroud/Frederic de Serault/Every Orlesian I have a gentlemanly crush on. And if I'm not mistaken, he seems to be voicing half the Armee de Italia as well.  I'm half expecting Loghain to show up as the Duke of Wellington and Gaspard as Marshal Bernadotte or something.

And not much Solas art at the moment.

Solas sometimes accidentally tells everyone that he's Fen'Harel.

Not Solas, but hot Anders with the DA2 crew as kitties. (Kitty!Merrill is my favorite <3)

Just popped in, what no news yet, damn?

But while I'm here I may as well help, some people do smile when they are emotional and it isn't necessarily a sign of happiness.

There has been much speculation about the Etruscan smile say, or the Mona Lisa... These smiles probably do not indicate happiness there but a wry reaction to life. There is also a scene in Dracula where Van Helsing starts laughing uncontrollably following Lucy's death, it is a symptom of his distress. Please don't take my word for it, look it up.

I think Sola's smile may fall into the same realms as his legendary giggling, he is an extremely emotional but usually very controlled being but sometimes the feelings break through and they expressed in an atypical manner, and literally the when he smiles after you have offered help that might just be his defences cracking up and the emotions breaking through... Momentarily. Likewise the giggling is not happiness or spite but his relieved reaction to locking up the pantheon, a touch of relieved hysteria, if you will.

this is Solas/Lavellan  or so I feel

ok about the smile, could it be just him, putting on a brave face? trying not to show the inquisitor how upset he really is?

I thought the tiny smile was there because the Inquisitor tried to say something comforting. He recognized that we tried to help his friend and himself. He hasn't been able to trust anyone and if we didn't kill the demon we acted trustworthy and kind. I just thought it struck him in that moment that he had a real reliable friend. Something good came from the bad so - tiny bitter sweet smile.

The timing on the smile, and how it animated (to me, at least), is more like a surpised reaction of affection. I think the Inquisitors response (if the player chose that), was not something he expected, so reacting with a heart felt smile was spontaneous. He may have been bereaved, but he still couldn't help but react when treated so kindly.

@maria also touches on aspects that do often occur. Considering that it is not uncommon for people to be struck by multple thoughts and feelings, even during specifically distraught times. Lost a childhood friend last year. Another old friend drove down from Seattle to attend the funeral with me. Both of us silently weeping, but then the congregation started singing. Neither of us being religious, we had no clue what to do. We ended up in a fit of shaking (and painfully stiffled) giggles. It wasn't out of disrepsect or making fun of religious traditions. It was nerves, and two people (Steph and myself), having no clue what to do.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, it's a bittersweet smile, and a bit of surprise. He responds saying the quizzy has already helped. I think it maybe comes off odd because it flashes so quick? The next thought he has is of the mages and he quickly snaps into anger. Then back to grief when it's all over. So he's feeling a mix of intense emotions there and his mask cracks a little bit as a result, I think.

Bah! That is what I get for trying to post using my clunky "smart phone". :pinched:

The long and short of it was, our grief was genuine, but an awkward moment caused a somewhat "inappropriate" response (I use quotes to denote I don't actually hold myself or Steph as inapropriate ).

There have been wonderful examples from others on this thread, regarding Solas' response. Any and all seem likely.

Sorry for typos or confusing lines of thoughts.

Nah, I don't see that happening. I think the situation with Anders was different because 1- he took a major choice and control away from the PC (causing players to feel blindsided and railroaded), and 2- DA2 in general was very political and the ending touched a nerve for many people. I don't see them going that sort of direction again. DAI is much more high fantasy...so Solas might go full on villain/antagonist, but so far he hasn't done anything to railroad or take a major choice away from the player, which is what I think really annoyed people.

I'm more worried about being left hanging with more questions than answers that won't get resolved for a loooong time. I'm impatient like that.  :(  :P
