Yes!  :crying: I just saw a comment or two a couple pages back here about his dialogue being somewhat weak or something like that (I can look it up later, just not now, I have work :D ) and I was sitting here thinking that his concept is amazing, his design is awesome, his interactions are absorbing (and very amusing at times) and just in general     *gush* and I got the impression that he didn't impress. Javik sure impressed me and I think he was executed perfectly.

Yeah, I don't really know anyone personally who isn't taken with Javik, but I keep seeing these comments on other forums, too, and elsewhere, that oh, "Javik is great, but..." or "Javik could have been so much better" or something along those lines. The only comment like this that I can even slightly agree with is that Javik might have been included in the base game to begin with and everyone would have been happier, which I read somewhere was the original intention, but that really ought not to influence one's opinion about the character himself.

Anyway, I'm always happy to talk to other Javik fans.  :D

In my Cycle we had a term for those who dislike Javik:

Fluffy Bunny Rabbits.

Of course, in my Cycle that was considered to be a great insult.  Warriors would cry it before battle to weaken the enemies resolve.

...

Hah!  You believed me.  Primitives.

I'm one of those weirdos who never had Javik, and didn't particularly feel his absence.  I've seen some of his content and he looks like a great character, but I guess I didn't feel like I was missing out or anything.  Also I was throwing a hissy fit at the time and refusing to spend any more money on ME3 until Citadel :D  I should probably pick him up someday.

Oh, I think you definitely should pick him up. Putting aside lore/character considerations, I think he adds a lot to certain points in the story, which makes him worth it for that alone. But I'm biased, so...  :D

Javik came with my copy of ME3 since I pre-ordered it. I've never played the game without him. He's alright. I dunno..I like him, but he certainly isn't one of my faves. I never take him anywhere with me, poor guy. I unfreeze him just to leave him on my ship. :-P

See? See?? Case in point. I took him everywhere and didn't regret it at all, it's just like Solas for DAI - he doesn't say a whole lot in terms of sheer volume, yet what he adds is very significant. Kaidan was the one for me who always got left cooling his heels on the ship, though generally I try to get all my companions out on rotation at least a couple of times. First PT for me Javik hadn't come out yet, but I also had the pre-order code and I was thrilled when I replayed ME (with a better Shepard) and with Javik there, it felt like everything about that PT turned out way more epic.

I'm sort of in the same camp - I love a good villain (or a bad one!), and I enjoy a well-crafted, well-thought out antagonist do their work and interact with the characters - whether they're morally-challenged moustache-twirling bastards or conflicted anti-heros, I like villains which have lots of depths.

Which is sort of why I don't get Solas-hate. He's either a great companion or a great future antagonist (providing they don't give him a personality transplant between here and DA4). I'd rather not see him become an antagonist, because of what I've seen of his approach to magic, people, society, faith etc. I find myself strongly agreeing 9 times out of 10 in-game, and I imagine would have great difficulty siding against him, but I'd still really enjoy seeing him again.

Thank you all for the warm welcome ^-^ *waves flag enthusiastically* I really, really appreciate it.

And since I am trash, I'm going to do a shameless plug because I just created an AO3 and I'm writing a Solavellan thing. Check it out if you want. Or don't.

You all are so nice, wow. I like it here! Speaking of fics, if anyone's got any recs, I'd love them.

Hey! Welcome :)

On top of everything recommended so far, if you're into AU fics I'd recommend flower/ink too.

Javik trolling James is one of my favourite ME3 character moments.  So many people just forget that Javik has this fantastic sense of humour.  Any party with him and Solas (on topic!) would be filled with so much sarcasm and sass it would be wonderful.

Welcome, Bellanaris!  :)

I took Javik everywhere with me while

Spoiler
I loved watching his green laser fry enemies as I sneaked around.

On my first PT however I didn't talk much to Solas and didn't take him around as I was a mage. After the stinger I made a second PT to romance him and take him everywhere with me so I could hear his banter, but then banter bug cursed that PT.

I would've taken Javik everywhere with me but both Shepard and her girlfriend were Adepts so... Javik got benched in favour of Garrus.

I took him around very minimally, since he was kind of redundant classwise. I did rotate companions a little bit, but it was mostly Liara and Garrus most of the time. I did take Javik to Thessia though. I try to bring people to where they might seem plot relevant.

I think he's worth having. From Ashes came with my N7 edition, which was on sale at the time. He sheds some light in a bunch of places, and talking to him can be pretty informative. He can be a little extreme and maybe....cold for my taste but he's a pretty great character. He really should not have been paid DLC.

Mmk.  I'll look into it if I get around to replaying ME3.  Probably with ManShep; I have my FemShep's post-war headcanon planned out in ridiculous detail, and I feel like adding another squaddie to her story is more effort than I want to expend :)  Also, I am slowly discovering that between Warhammer 40k and Disney Infinity, my wallet may have been better off with doing crack.

I don't get Solas-hate either, to be honest. Even if someone feels like he betrayed the Inquisition or lied or whatever, his contributions are invaluable, if cryptic. I can get it in a personality-based context, no one has the exact same taste, yet he remains a truly excellent companion regardless of the personal dimension.

Some of the best ME3 moments in my mind involve Javik trolling.  :D It's right up my alley in terms of humor, especially considering the overall gravity of his character and his circumstance - I love Solas for similar reasons. E.g. the way that these characters approach the world with a kind of painful aloofness that hides a complex burden, among other things, and that includes a cynical sense of humor.

Haven't posted in forever but I'm looking forward to catching up with the tons of awesome posts I missed.

Hope everyone had a great time with the game and with Solas' character.

As for fic recs, I also recommend reading flower/ink. It's a modern AU take on Solavellan and DAI with Lavellan as a tattoo artist and Solas as a florist. Yeah, his profession sounds odd but the fic is really good I swear! :D

I need a bit of advice. I want to make an elf who believes in the Maker/Andraste and Elven gods like the original inquisitor. So I want to create a balanced outcome. Free Ally Templars with Leliana as Divine. I think I can make that happen but I don't know if Solas will romance me since he gets greatly disproves from free ally and other disaproval if I say things Faithful.

My BFF picked up disapproval from Solas for every major decision except the Well and Halamshiral.  It's fine as long as you are careful about gaining approval during his conversations, and grab his artifact quests.  If you are on PC, I believe you can also tweak approval.

EDIT for ToP: Solus meets Solas :D

This. Also, do not go in to kill the demon Wisdom turned into in his personal quest.

Also if you're playing a mage, don't make anyone tranquil. He greatly disapproves for each. I still don't know why that is restricted to mage Inquisitors.

My head-canon is that in Pro-Mage playthroughs, if a Warrior or Rogue Inquisitor made someone tranquil, there'd be riots. If a mage does it, they hate it, but they also have to acknowledge that there must have been a pretty damn good reason, as every (Circle, at least) mage grows up with that Sword of Damocles having over their heads.

No idea on a Pro-Templar run, though.

It's kind of a double standard, though, because mages have been fighting so long against oppression and to have one of their own even use this "technique" would spell treachery of the worst sort for a lot of mages. In their minds I assume that they would feel the days of terror of such things are over now with the rebellion, they already dodged servitude once already and I think they'd be fed up with the various "swords" of Damocles. True, they'd rather hear this pronouncement from one of their own, after all, who else but a mage could truly determine whether someone is deserving, yet I think a lot of mages feel that there is no good excuse whatsoever for the Rite. It would be like a hideous specter of the past rearing its head from the ashes of the circle, worse, it's resurrected by one they trust to lead them to a new, freer future - they think they are safe, doubly so because a mage leads them, and then you do something like this... well, the wounds are still very fresh. Well, I'm sure the response would depend on several factors, i.e. if you are pro-Circle from the start, no one would be shocked (only disappointed) if you chose to uphold such things, and I imagine the same would be true for a Templar run (so far my Templar runs have all been non-mages, so I can't say for certain, though my human mage is pro-Circle... mostly).

But yeah, I'm sure that a non-mage would just automatically get lynched for even suggesting such a thing.

I'm not too sure if Leliana will become Divine in this scenario.  You may have to avoid recruiting Vivienne.  As for Solas you should be able to make up approval through the artefacts, saving Wisdom, exiling the Wardens and going for Celene/Briana.
