It's the waiting, with nothing new from Bioware we are all bound to reply the hurts and feels on an endless loop until they give us something that tells us whether we have reason to hope for anything remotely resembling an ending happy or not or something in between. Seriously, the Solas romance has been the first to inspire me to write AU takes on romance scenes and even a short lived self-insert seed-story, when what I really need to be doing is finishing my Alistair/Cousland fic.

I would recommend someone that prices their commissions correctly. I've seen people price detailed works of art, like the tarots for like 20 bucks. No. The ones that seem correct are in the 100-220 dollar range. I know that's expensive but underpricing art commissions is bad practice as it lowers the value of everybody's art - so I recommend supporting those people.
Also, if you've paid .5 up front - ask for an estimate of completion. I've seen a few popular tumblr artists go for WEEKS and WEEKS with commissions unfinished. This is not ok unless it was previously agreed upon - get that in writing as well.
Our very own AryBoBary charges around $80 per commission and her art is gorgeous!

Yeah.....the waiting is brutal. It doesn't help that it's not even just waiting for more Solas content. I really love just about everything to do with Dragon Age so waiting for new stuff in general is bad. Just today I was even thinking about the awesome places that the next game could take place in. I'm on the Tevinter Imperium boat I think. Especially since that opens the door to possibly play a slave elf that causes a huge uproar in the Imperium. That would be pretty stellar.
Plus, imagine our dear Solas helping out with yet another slave rebellion. If, one assumes, he did that in the past. Plus, it gives a great reason for him to show up in the next game in all his Dread Rebel Wolfy glory. >_>

I adore her style. There's a boldness to it, but the coloring is also just lovely.
I have considered commissioning art, but it will have to wait until things look up with money. Company budget cuts have cut my income by a lot, no one has been biting lately on my freelance work, and I am trying to scrape by until I find something else.

You can get trapped in a state where he just won't talk if you get a lot of early disapproval via major world decisions (allying with templars/conscripting mages, allying with the Wardens). Same for all the other companions, really; I had to kill a lot of apostates before Cass would start talking to my Lavellan again, and I'd gotten along quite well with her apart from that. IMO it's less the companions themselves, and more an artifact of the large early approval bumps/hits you can get from main quest. I've had the same problems with Viv and Sera in another playthrough, and it's almost impossible to dig yourself out of the hole with Viv since her quests grant so little approval.
Solas was easy to gain approval from but the only major decision that netted me any significant disapproval was keeping the Wardens. I wasn't gaming it at all, just that I agreed with Solas a lot and, as someone with pro-mage canons, it worked out and this happened.

Thanks for the info! Some of the artists I have been looking into are priced in the 100-200 dollar range, which definitely make more sense for a commissioned piece, but never having commissioned art before I wasn't sure what the policies and procedures were.

If you need a break from Solas feels, her Noble Origin piece is just lovely and full of feels. It really fleshes out that Origin in a great and heartbreaking way

Seriously. Yeah he disapproves of things but so does every other companion. I don't know why I always see people get on Solas about this, especially since I find him one of the easiest companions to get approval from. I was having difficulty with Sera, Cole and Vivienne. Solas approves every friggin time you investigate. Even questioning the things he says gets you approval where it might get you disapproval from others (which is why I find it strange when people say you have to kiss Solas' ass to get him to like you. I'm like, which game did you play?)
Then again, I've seen people constantly support the Chantry and the Templars and then they're like "Why doesn't Solas like me god he's such an arrogant jerk". And I'm like, uhhhhh.....I think the reason is obvious.... His approval mechanics aren't different from anyone else's and I swear you get more chances to up his approval than any other DAI companion.

Hmmm, assuming that Solas DID possess a body, then it'll have to be an Ancient Elf, perhaps a freed guardian/sentinel of one of the Pantheon?

Yeah, Vivienne is kinda like that for me. I have made gains in her approval since Redcliffe, but not enough to offset being pro-mage and yet she is not truly pissed with me anymore.
