I actually think things like maple candies would be fittingly 'elfy', given their relationship with nature. Getting sweet syrup from the trees could be a Lavellan headcanon.

I could drink maple syrup. Maple fudge though...mmmm. I had a sample of it once but it seems to just be sold in Canada. Come down here, maple fudge. 

True story. My Mom came to visit me a few years back and she bought this fancy bottle of serious Canada maple syrup. It was in the shape of a leaf and everything. When she went threw security for a connecting flight back to the States security took the bottle from her. Like, she had all kinds of "not allowed" stuff but they took the bottle of Canadian maple syrup from her. I mean wtf. Maple Syrup!

 

And to keep it Solas related......ummm.....Yes, I agree that maple candies would be entirely elfy. OOoo,.....Solas and Lavellan going to a sugar shack somewhere out in the wintery mountains or Orlais somewhere. Emprise du Lion? It would be like Quebec! It works.

At the moment it's them meeting at a rally for equal marriage.  Lavellan is there because she's bisexual and at first she think Solas is just some old, straight, fart who wants to seem cool.  But, he's really the Dread Wolf - a political activist from way back in the day - he'd led a movement for equal rights for elves but something really terrible happend and he got the blame for the worse conditions they have today (because if a modern day AU doesn't have elves, dwarves, qunari, magic and dragons then I'm not interested).

 

I was thinking of working in the Herald angle somehow.

Uh, someone should explain to the Americans that Canada became the first country outside of Europe to legalize same sex marriage.  In fact, as of July 20th, it will be 10 years.

re: Maple Syrup -- You can get good maple products outside of Canada, in fact Vermont is the largest producer of maple goods in the world- New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York also produce major amounts of maple related products.. VT however is the only state (that I'm aware of) where if you say something is maple it has to have actual maple syrup in the product -- not just maple flavoring.. Even Brach's candies has to use real maple syrup in their Maple Goodies in VT. There is a sugar  farm right near where I live and they sell huge blocks of maple sugar candy for like 5 dollars and it is the best thing ever 

 

 

My Lavellan would be perfectly happy eating nothing but maple sugar- its the only kind of sweetener she has really had other than honey. Solas would not think it sophisticated enough.

People are actually saying that?  About moving to Canada because the SCOTUS made gay marriage legal?  Lulz!

 

We've had legal gay marriage for a bit over a year here in Pennsylvania and I'm sure those against are shocked to find out that we haven't descended into a pit of depravity (anymore than we already were).

 

And I agree, Solas would totally be for marriage equality.  And maple candies.

Go Vermont! Lived there, married a native, and have my mother-in-law ship us 100% VT syrup now that we live in CA, only the good stuff too grade B. Though, hmm, frilly cakes has me wondering if Solas would be a fancy maple syrup elf or a dark amber guy. Just because they are frilly doesn't mean they are overly sweet...so he could a grade B, dark amber person.
