Well...excuse me while I ponder to myself...I think better when I type...odd, I know..

 

I'll be getting a new computer for Black Friday/Christmas...therefore I can get a copy of DAI for it which I was planning on doing eventually anyway. That is pretty far away so any DLC between then and now I will just have sit in my corner and pout as you all play it and talk about it like I did with JoH.

 

But.... I will have to start a game all over since transferring save games between consoles and PCs and not available at this time..  There is no point in continuing my current game or starting any new games between now and then.

 

Also, getting DAI for my new PC means I can use mods..yay!

 

*sighs* but what a pain in the arse!!!

It does suck for those who have last gen consoles.  Although I can't help but feel that they shouldn't have even supported last gen consoles to begin with.  And yes that sounds mean to those who play on them but that's the nature of the industry.  At some point they have to stop putting games on older consoles and focus on the newer ones.  It's a resources issue.

 

What they *should* do is allow people with older consoles to get one copy of the game for a newer console at no charge - but that will never happen.

 

If DAI had only been released on new gen people would have grumbled but for the most part understood. For me personally I'm angry because this change comes mid DLC cycle. If last gen can't support the game you're making then don't release it on them, don't treat your customers like crap and expect them to buy your product.

I know it isn't the perfect solution, BUT... you may also ask around for PC game saves

I don't think there's any issue with those being transferred around. With Black Emporium you can at least make the character look like yours - or maybe you'll be lucky to find people with similar choice patch and DA Keep world state. That will at least get you experience any upcoming DLC firsthand.

A large discount one would hope.  Still probably never happen although it would help with the PR mess I'm sure they're going to be in.

 

Also, does anyone know if this is an EA decision?  Like where all games now have to go through Origin and all games have to have an online component?  Maybe EA is saying no more support for older consoles?  I don't know and I haven't heard anything like that (mostly because I don't pay attention).  Just wondering.

Wasn't there some kind of program about getting Inquisition for next-gen free if you got it for an older system? I remember them talking about it a few months ago.

And I'm with Patchwork on the 'Don't make it for last-gen unless your plans support it'. I get it, mistakes happen. *sigh*

Cross-platform purchase is only for JOH (at least so far). Inquisition is 50% off on Xbox though... I think.

Wow, I have ps4 myself, so this doesn't affect me, but I have to say it must suck for anyone on ps3 and 360!

 

I can understand why they did this.  It sucks for people with older consoles but I was surprised it was even released on them in the first place.  My gaming PC has issues running DAI.  Creators know what its like on an old gen system.

Actually...it runs very well on my 360. Sometimes it takes a few times to recognize the disk when I first put it in..but that's it really.

Guys.  How do you think Solas would react to Tumblr?  Would he have a tumblr?  Would be just get fed up with people?  Would he spam the Dalish tag?  Should I write this as a modern AU?  Should I stay off tumblr because it's clearly a horrible place?

You guys sorted out already that Cee wasn't saying criticism is toxic, and whatnot, so that's cool. But I did still want to say something about 'Solas Positivity'. I think it really depends on your view of it. You are being positive regarding Solas and his character by having in depth discussions and whatnot, yeah! But like it or not, sometimes people are going to come in and rain on your parade in one way or another. It doesn't happen often here, but on Tumblr, I get the impression it does. So a week dedicated to being positive is really just a way of inviting people to share more than they would, in a more accepting way than normal. And of course, it boosts the creative community and creates an event of sorts to make things lively. No one is obligating anyone to partake, it's just there if you do. No one is saying you're not a positive Solas fan if you don't. But hey, it's still there and still going on.
 

 

Ha, this was really what I was getting at. I like the existence of 'positivity weeks' just because they kind of bring people together like a mini event in terms of sharing a lot more. It's organized. And it's nice to have that now and then. None of that negates discussion. You can definitely mute tags if you want to avoid, etc. Tumblr does have its reputation for drama in part of, as you said, how it operates. Some of the structure and limits are conducive to it.

 

That said, there are also lots of good things that come out of Tumblr too. It's very easy to share.

I don't think it's a technical thing at this point - beyond that with different architecture it takes more time and money to develop and make sure it works - I think it's money.  I don't think JoH did that well.  Or as well as they wanted.  They may have gotten their budget reduced a bit or told to cut costs where possible and it was there.   And tbh - I think JoH was actually cut from the game. Which is FINE. They may have done a few things more or added a couple of things, but it was likely mostly finished.

Oof, that DLC announcement.  Especially for people who want to play the upcoming story/Solas relevant DLC. I'm sorry, guys, this absolutely sucks.

 

I wonder how much JoH played into this decision? It came out two months after for three platforms and also came out right with The Witcher 3. I wonder if return on investment for making it for older platforms was just not enough. I can see this being an EA decision.

I kind of see him in this context a little like the writer side of F.H. from Message Sent.

Solas would be the sort of person who runs a text-only, wordpress-esque blog on tumblr, an image-centric microblogging website. Not that he's unaware of how archaic that appears. Likely musings on history, art, language, and a bit of philosophy. Occasionally, you'd get an image of a frilly cake. Or a snarky, well-placed burn, which gets an unexpected number of hits. He's surprisingly on-point for someone over 4000 years old.

 

Definitely not an interactive blogger. I bet he never checks his asks
