Punching Solas. I don't think I could even if he is basically spitting venom at that point.
That conversation is so very telling though.

...Because the original ranking was... lacking, to say the least.
Let me know how you like it.

Agreed. Usually I have a hard time being a mean/bad guy in a game, but I thought about being a jerk-quisitor just to spice things up. Although I might have a problem with being on the outs with Solas.

Do it. I recommend it. Try to get everyone's disapproval scenes.

Solas and Adaar.
"What's wrong, Solas? Do you not like Mabari?"
Guys! GUYS!
So I wrote a response article to a terrible ranking article of all Dragon Age and Mass Effect companions (this - just reading Solas' part alone made me shudder, let alone the rest), and it is finally published, so I thought I'd share it with you guys (guess who has the no. 1 spot on my list...). I tried doing them all justice and I tried to keep an objective view, some thoughts didn't make it to the final version because of length (it's still incredibly long) and I hope no one is going to hunt me down - I'll take the risk though, because I love you guys.
Anyway, in case anyone is interested! http://www.gamecrate...d-opinion/10972
Oh, and: it's got plenty of spoilers for those who haven't played ME/ME2/ME3 (or DA:O/DAII for that matter), so read in that light. Inquisition (which matters the least for you guys in terms of spoilers, haha) is written more obliquely.
*runs away*
To be honest, whilst the Solas thread may not be the most tactful place to admit this by a long way, I completely agree with the top spots for the first article though, 1. Dog, 2. Garrus and 3. Mordin is exactly the right order when it comes to BioWare's companions.
(okay, well, I'm kidding about dog at least...)
Also, it's nice to see an article clearly written by a dudebro who doesn't care for complex characters to place Sera so highly for once. I absolutely love Sera to bits. I think she gets a bad rep. I think the nasty parts of personality - her prejudices, and her unwillingness to challenge her viewpoint or change her perspective - are some of my favourite parts about her. I think she epitomises a really ordinary, working-class voice in a game which is filled with extraordinary magical figures. And that includes the absolute terror that most ordinary folk in Southern Thedas have towards magic, that includes the bitter reality of living in a hierarchal fedual system where you - like 99% of the world - happen to be at the bottom of the heap, and that includes being so little travelled and so little educated and possibly even illiterate that your understanding of the world will only be based on what you can see and touch and verify. Hence some of Sera's more outlandish statements about the Temple of Mythal just being all demons.

Ooh, very nicely written!
I agree with your analyses of the DA companions, though I can't say anything for the ME ones since I haven't played it. The original article felt rather like the writer didn't take the rankings very seriously.

Gwyvian: Still reading the article. Very nicely done.
I wished you had expanded a little more on Isabela or a few other characters, but that's mostly because my copy of DA2 is too damaged to work and I'm trying to remember all the character development that happened. ![]()
I loved the Iron Bull part. I'd never understood why he lets the Inquisitor make the choice for him before. Puts him and the Qunari in another light. ![]()

Haha, well, I think Garrus and Moridin definitely deserve high spots, but going by the viewpoints I was equating them all with, I still would say that the more content, especially different types of content, the better. Dog, though... Well, enough said. ![]()
I wouldn't want anyone to think that I don't like Sera, I find many qualities about her fascinating actually, but in terms of the qualities I was gauging the companions with, she does fall short because of some of those very things. Personally she might not have gotten such a low ranking if I based this only on my feelings alone (though because I'm lore-centric among other things, it mostly correlates), but compared to the rest, that's what she got.

Yes, that was my general impression, too; considering how important they are to me, I couldn't resist responding for that very reason.

I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately some stuff I wrote had to be cut because it was already way too long, but the essence is still there for all of them. Perhaps I'll do a followup of some sort and look more deeply at various characters; the editor liked my work so much I have an offer to keep writing for them, so you never know... ![]()
I was so dying to share the Bull part in light of our discussion yesterday - I'm glad that the article finally went up today of all days, so consider it an extension of what I had to say. ![]()
If Krem wanted to be a tailor then, to a Qunari, he would be female. To Qunari Krem makes sense. He's a warrior so he's a man. The body he was born with doesn't affect that. But Qunari wouldn't understand tailor!Krem identifying as a man because that's a female profession. If Krem=Warrior is true, then Krem=male is true.
Didn't I say over and over again that I do understand the logic? I even paraphrazed it a few times myself.
I don't reject it either, I simply do not accept it as official canon until they clearly confirm it in a game.
Maybe the decisions people make early are ones he really dislikes, they choose to kill in his personal quest, show closed-mindedness, act like demigods, and don't pick up the artifacts?
Well, at least the "killing in his personal quest" nets you quite some approval, so doing this actually helps.
But my Trev did believe she was the
Son of GodHerald of Andraste
Transgender too?
(I'll have to read when I have a bit more time

It sounds like a lot but the original ranking put her at four. She's a good character, but not that good.

The punch just proves Solas' point that Inky isn't willing to listen to anyone, they'll just try to shut them up.
Punching a romanced Dorian is worse, though. His kicked puppy face afterwards is just heartbreaking. There's so much emotion put into that scene. You can really see the betrayal he feels at being treated like that by a man he thought he'd found a chance of a real relationship with.

Maybe in the Qunari DLC, then.
*prays for Sten-Arishok to explain this facet of the Qun, as well as all of the other Qunari questions, while sighing at the Inquisitor trying to act like she's a woman as well as a warrior. Bonus points for the Hero of Ferelden swooping in and shaking her head*
So, I was looking at the map of the world(of Thedas) and there's all this buzz in the air that the next DLC is going to be about some kind of Qunari invasion or something like that.
I couldn't help but notice that Arlathan Forest has a coastline relatively close to Par Vollen. Arlathan.
I'm just saying. >_>
And trying to find any excuse possible to see something of Solas in a Qunari DLC. Anything. Even if it's just a note saying "Don't worry, I sent that tier 4 armor I took to the dry cleaners for you and it should be delivered back to Skyhold."

What worries me is that I don't really see Solas fit in all that Qunari DLC stuff...
However, the writers mentioned the DLC dealing with "the one who started it all" would also certainly be the one in which you'd decide the fate of your Inquisition so perhaps the Qunari DLC won't be the only story-based DLC we'll have....? .................IF we have a post-ending Qunari story-based DLC at all...
Haha, the dry cleaner's.... Héhéhéhé

I wonder if we might visit that White Spire mountain too. Maybe something is hidden there..... something that starts with an 'S' and ends with a kiss....
Man I hate waiting for DLC!
Hey May, are you still working on the Pantheon Unleashed? ![]()
We are also going to learn more about the Fade and "meet the one who started it all" so I would be surprised if Solas wouldn't be there. Besides if this is going to be the last DLC and we are given a chance to decide the fate of Inquisition then it seems that inquisitor won't be a PC in the next game and the romance will be resolved in this DLC as well.

Where is this 'last DLC' thing coming from? Two DLCs seem like very little.

I dunno. And as far as I know the next DLC will be story driven and post-ending. I don't even know why people think Solas won't be in it. I'm pretty sure he will be.

I think it was mentioned in that leaked survey, but I don't see any reason to think it was about the next DLC.
I wonder how likely it would be for them to announce the new DLC at the San Diego Comic-Con.. which begins tomorrow
