I am the pantheon thread. No literally I am. My whole fanart Tumblr is dedicated to them. Also Giton. Her writing about them is amazing. god tier no pun intended level of writing.

Shut your mouth.

Yes it has been but only because the Pantheon is not very popular. I would be happy to post in it again if you would like to discuss theories since the Pantheon members are such a divine topic.

Mmmm.....well, if posting my terrible paint drawn pantheon comic thingy will help revive the Pantheon thread I'm all for it. Because I believe that when it comes to Dragon Age, after Solas my obsession lies with the Pantheon.

And let's face it, it's practically the same thing because he's Fen'Harel.

And I love to read about the Pantheon. There should always be more about them. Because the possibilities are endless. Sorta.

And also, yes, bless captaincaranis and their screenshots of Solas' lips. Mmmm......

Shut your mouth.

There's no tone on the internet so I'm totally unsure (apologies), is this a joking retort or a serious sentiment?

Scar-related brainstorming:

  • He had severe acne in his youth.
  • He's secretly Harry Potter (different shape, I know, but the location fits).
  • Andruil practiced her aim on him while he was tied to the tree.

On a more serious note, it reminds me of the kind of scars the Tranquil have. Or it can be from a wound inflicted when he was betrayed by someone.

Not to rain on any parades here, but wasn't there a writer response on the scar topic a while back?   I seem to remember Gaider or Weekes putting a nail in the theory coffin, clarifying that it was just intended to give his face a bit of character...

Could be wrong, though.   My memory is horrible.

In other news, anyone else eyeballing this Tuesday as potential DLC release?   Spoils of the Avvar was released two weeks after JoH hit the PS/XBox, and apparently the Spoils of the Qunari DLC was supposed to be scheduled for the 21st...

Trying not to get my hopes up, but the content drought is killing me.

Chapter 3 of "Pulchra Tenebris" is now up and posted! :D

Spoiler

Links: AO3 | Tumblr | FF.net

Pairing: Solas/Lavellan

Summary: [Post Game] They say that at the end, we see our lives flash before our eyes. They say that death is painless and silent. On that day, I saw nothing but the smoke from the wood beneath my feet. I heard nothing but the Chant of Light and the thrilled shouts of the crowd all around me. I couldn't remember my life before this moment. I couldn't even imagine that anything existed outside the pain and torment of the present. In the end, death wasn't silent nor painless. Death was cruelty and agony. Death was my reflection in his eyes - the eyes of a beast. The eyes of a monster that I loved with all my soul.

That does sound familiar, and it makes sense. Sometimes a scar is just a scar - not everything has to have significance. Goodness knows they threw enough interesting things in as it is.

Though I have wondered about the jawbone pendant. There's a big deal is made about it in art and fiction, and I wonder if there is something special about it or if it was just an artistic something or other to help round out the style of Solas. Like, was the artist told he's the Dread Wolf and they threw that in there for fun, or were they told "he wears a pendant that is this thing" and that's what they came up with...?

Even if there is no great significance beyond a fashion choice, somehow the story of how he decided this was a thing he wanted to do and how he procured and prepared it would be interesting in a "slice of life" kind of way.

From an outsider's point of view, I should mention that the exchange kind of read like a mouse getting cornered by a posse of cats, and I admit that my bully tactic alarm went sounding... so thank you Solas for enquiring on Illyria's behalf! I like to see people in this forum watching out for one another, even though it was all in jest/misunderstanding. So I'm glad you guys figured it out and peace has returned!

Though Kissie, not gonna lie, if this was a mob hit.... you were totally the 'clean up' guy. xD

----
On other matters, specifically regarding Solas' scar... I like the idea that the betrayer did it by knocking him out! Close enough to not want to hurt Solas, but desperate enough to kill Mythal. Design wise, if the scar was merely a trivial characterization at one point, there's nothing to say we can't head canon otherwise or that it won't get brought up in future canon! Characters are weird that way -- they tend to evolve. :D

I can't say for sure, but looking at the array of Solas concepts I imagine that it was something like this:

Leads at a meeting: Okay guys, this character is Solas. He's the f*cking Dread Wolf, Fen'Harel. That's a big deal. But we are going to keep his identity a secret from the player until the end, okay? So when they play again, they get all the little zingers our writers are going to hide. Now artists? You guys make him look wolfy, but not OBVIOUSLY wolfy, okay? And no werewolves. I mean it.

It looks as though most of the designs played with wolf teeth or wolf fur, but the jaw bone was a great end choice: subtle, identifiable, and a little weird. So it seems to me it was an artist decision initially, perhaps, though of course the writers would have freedom to expound on that if they wanted. :)

For the fact that statically, elves are not rolled by a high # of players, Fenxshiral of Project Elvhen has a ridiculous number of name request for names that have Fen (wolf) in them. I have spent most of the last two days editing his asks into an easy to use "Elvhen Name Book." I think by the time I am done the Fen section of names is going to be quite long.

Back on topic, the scar is interesting since it does not seem to come from a blade, like the ones we see on Cassandra, but there just too may variables, and I am on my 2 glass of wine after spending most of the evening alphabetizing so my brain has very little capacity for theories right now.

Methinks that the jawbone, like all the hints in DA:O and DA:2, is just another way of hiding the truth of who Solas is in plain sight.

And now I'm off to run about the Hinterlands and possibly the Fallow Mire with a party of mages so I can listen to Vivienne, Dorian and Solas heckle each other  :D

He probably just found it lying on the ground and though 'hey this is neat' and made it into a pendant.

Solas dies? We fight Solas and possibly have to kill him? We have to decide between Solas and X? The Inquisitor must give up their life for whatever, and in the case of a romanced Lavellan it's a tear-jerking response from Solas to watch this happen? The Inquisitor helps Solas avert a great disaster, and romanced Lavellan gets the opportunity to go off with Solas and be together? Solas doesn't appear at all, but we get a note left on our desk, or a Fade dream where he says goodbye properly?  I'm probably missing a few possible scenarios.

It's all good as long as the story is done well and makes sense. I'd prefer to not be drowned in the "sads" for the sake of it, but a really well done scene that pulls the proper emotions would be fine. Sometimes a good old bawl while involved with a movie or book or game is wonderful. Dammit Mordin.

I suppose we may not get anything at all, and some might prefer that. But it would leave me without closure as a player, and I'd always wonder and feel like the story was unfinished.

I have a bad feeling that it could be like that destroy the inquisition and some of the companions dies or save solas.. omg.. that would be impossible decision for me T_T I can't kill dorian or... cole.... T_T OR VARRIC OR ANY OF THEM....NO AND I CAN'T LET SOLAS DIE...

Art again.

Solas studying the Mark.

Solas and Lavellan in a (very) passionate kiss. Oooh...

Fen'Harel giving a rude gesture. Lavellan disapproves.

EDIT: Top Solas again.

Here's a captaincaranis gif. ;)

Oh that's fine if it's that way, at least for me :) Like Cee mentioned before, I think it's more a matter of wondering why/how come Solas - who (apparently) is an immortal ancient elf AND a potential god-like figure - has things like scars or signs of ageing anyway. I mean... IS HE actually immortal? Is that not his original body? Is elven immortality something that happens after elves reach certain age? Maybe only certain kind of magic can leave scars?

Or are elves this long-lived only because they know how to enter uthenera/stasis and during their time out of it they age and/or are susceptible to injury just like everyone else is??

So many interesting questions! :)

As for my (serious) theories about the scar? While the theory about him being hit by the murderer of Mythal is interesting (maybe he was knocked out and imprisoned the moment he's found out someone he knows is planning to do, hence he couldn't do anything about it?) I think it may be a souvenir from the time he described himself as more of a soldier who apparently seen a lot of death and destruction, which may mean he actively fought on some sort of battlefield and gained a scar or two that way.
