That's what I thought too. I thought he'd make a sudden appearance at the balcony at the end. Boy, was I wrong. :crying:

Quizzy all alone, especially if you'd done other play throughs and are expecting your LI to be there? Tough stuff, man. :S

And then he goes and holds ANOTHER WOMAN in his arms. The bastage.

I don't think it's as black and white as "surprise I was bad all along" or "I'm not smart enough to realize this was bad".  I think it may be a situation where he truly and utterly believes it is the right thing to do.  And he's trying to do good. Which is why Cole never read him as "evil".  In his heart he wanted to make things better.  So like Cole - who murdered all those mages in the tower in a misguided idea that he was 'helping' - Solas might do something that will hurt more now than save.  And if you step back and look at it, yeah, it may be logical.  But there may be a piece to it that requires significant cost.  People love Mordin but like...he was instrumental in causing the slow genocide of the krogan.   There was a logical reason for it though when laid out but it had an incredibly high cost.  So it may be one of THOSE things.

I don't think it will be as black and white as that either. But that's what I meant by the protagonist having to "teach" the companion about their "wrong choices" so they change their mind and give up. I could see Solas being a bit too caught up in his own view of things to adapt plans or thinking to the current times, maybe, but not so far that he would have to drop and change everything because he was so very wrong and now someone has made him see the light.

And Mordin... I think that's why I love his story so much. He thought he was doing the right thing, and maybe it was the right thing for that time even if it was distasteful.  But in the end he did come to realize that he made a mistake, and he wanted to make it right. It's true he could be swayed from that if very specific conditions were met, but he didn't need the protagonist to hold his hand through the whole of his own arc to figure out what he felt and what he wanted to do. It was perfect. I want at least that much for Solas and his story, for Solas to remain his own person and not just another character we get to dominate into "our" way of things. Let him be right, and let us have to deal with that and/or make difficult decisions because of it. It would certainly be interesting.  :P

When I saw that last shot you get of him when all your companions come to you after Corypheus was defeated, coupled with the "what we had was real", the inquisitor looking back to see him gone....I knew that it and it was going to continue the feels.

It made the whole party afterward sad. I empathized with my Lavellan. Need to talk to all these people, in-demand, all eyes on you, without a moment to yourself, to feel.

@Uirebhiril - Well I think that's the point. There is not right and wrong. What's genuinely right for some people is wrong for others. I mean most people would consider Mordin's genocide wrong. But like...down the road with all the facts in front of you, a lot of people understood WHY. And many may agree that it was the right thing to do.  (yes I know he fixed it but it's likely we'll be dealing with...do we enact the genophage? without knowing what the long term consequences will be...if that makes sense).

I'm compromised by The Witcher right now.  All the decisions in that game were difficult because there was no "Right" answer. That's life. To get something in one area you have to sacrifice something significant in another.  Now, I don't want it as idiotic as the Fade decision. That was just lame.  But more complicated.  Where you understand there are pros/cons to both.  Solas isn't the bad guy. He's just the catalyst.  The reason that you're involved.

I still can't get over the Solas breaks your heart.....ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: BELOVED AND PRECIOUS

....

You know, it does add to the heartache, but like the locked-in state of the romance, I can't help but think it is purposeful in some way. Maybe as a way of saying that despite the breakup a romanced Lavellan is still beloved and precious to Solas.

That really is beautifully done! I bet Niamaduir is chuffed :)

My grin is cheek aching big.

@  Illyria:  Clean up the glitter? You don't clean up glitter, that was the point of the glitter. Now no one can wash the optimism away! *giggles madly with a wide cheshire girn*

*Edit: I am so happy about my commission that I am completely failing at typing today. And I forgot to add, someone mentioned to geekyjez over on Tumblr that Solas has a very interesting facial expression on his face when you find that guard tied to Celene's bed for those of you have DAI Cinematic Tools

Huh, you don't need Cinematic tools for that. I think it which number he is in party composition to see it. I think I got that expression and he looks either furious or disgusted.

I suppose he's not a fan of seeing buff, blonde dudes chained to a bed.... Which makes me wonder why he was looking in the first place xD

What, Solas? You're not pleased with old-gen body model sacrifices, that has left everyone with low-poly, low-texture versions? Or are you disturbed by lack of... parts?

... Why do I have a feeling that if game devs put in pink (or red or purple) lake in fantasy game, many people would just deem is as "too unrealistic"? XDDD

Pretty and I wonder about its significance. Why are there two massive statues of Ghilan'nan there? Why is Solas taking Lavellan THERE to (supposedly) reveal truth about himself?

Is there some sort of in-story importance, or did they just pick it for that particular shot?

Spoiler

This is a bit off-topic, but pointing out the Ghil connection here just made me realize: where's Sylaise's statuary?

Mythal has her dragons scattered around.  F'H same, wolves. Dirthamen, bear art. Falon'din, ravens. Elgar'nan, owls (originally, I think?  Transitioned to F'D.) Ghilan'nain, halla. Andruil, the "archer" statues.  June, the proto-paragon dwarves.

The wyvern statues, maybe?   The self-insertion into the Andraste mythos would kind of fit, plus the close cousin-relationship to dragonkind...

I don't know.  It just struck me as weird.  Aside from her inclusion in the ToM mosaics and a tiny shrine filled with other members' statuary, Sylaise seems almost invisible in Ferelden.

There may be many reasons for that - though I assume that Sylaise may be like Hestia (both are goddesses associated with hearth). Maybe - like in Hestia's case - her symbol was the hearth and fire.

There's some Ferelden art that made me raise an eyebrow (same apparent era as the Dirthamen-bear and the Halla maiden)  but that's early human, if there's any real connection at all.

Spoiler

The weird thing for me is that in DA1/2, we find *tons* of early humanoid Pantheon statues that were most likely originally Sylaise (assuming she's the figure with cupped hands offering fire) that were subsequently appropriated by the Chantry as Andraste.  But while the other Pantheon members seem to transition from literal representation to symbolic animal figures, it seems to go humanoid statue > ??? > Fall of Arlathan for Sylaise.

Unless wyvern?   That seems possible.

There's so little pre-Andraste human lore to work with, though.  I'd really just like to sit some old guy in Ferelden down and say "for the love of god please explain this."

Well... they're both pale and blonde and not quite human... and maybe if Cole was a rapey sociopath instead of a compassionate and selfless adorable spirit boy. But, yeah, similarities 0.0
