I can imagine him and Iron Bull having a very serious talk. Meanwhile Solas would likely be outraged by the whole contract thing and Christian's (*cough*Edward's*cough*) controlling behavior.

Oh Creators, I hadn't even thought about what Bull would say to him.  Someone needs to write this.  And Josie going over the contract.  Because Josie is unflappable and just the woman you need when someone is making contracts (of any sort).  I have a feeling Cole's reaction to Edw- sorry, Christian, would be the same as he had to Erimond.

I doubt Mr. Weekes would confirm to us whether Solas was into bondage or not considering the whole having sex at all is left up to player interpretation. The indomitable focus line really got fans excited about Solas's kinky interests XD. I think he just means it'd be interesting to see Mage Lavellan lose focus ie get flustered, presumably by him. But everyone's free to interpret however they wish! I just feel like a Solas who is into bondage needs to apologize for embarrassing The Iron Bull's romances Inquisitor about being tied up!

In my head, I always imagine that Solas and Lavellan play an adorable game of "who will get flustered/stumped/blushes first!" >D What's hilarious is that the game seems to suggest that it actually happens, especially if we pick 2nd dialogue options.

Haha, I love their sexual innuendos. All of you chaste relationship romancers enjoy ogling Solas from afar, but my Lavellan definitely tapped that ;)

I somehow alway end up with the romances that the main character keeps flustering (Alistair, Liara and Fenris).  This is the first time my hero has been flustered back.

Haha, with all the excitement over Solas butt shots, probably :) but you'd be surprised how many people actually like the idea of a platonic relationship between Solas and their Lavellan. I love your Terry Pratchett quote by the way, Terry Pratchett is life! X)

Solas obviously has more life experience than Lavellan, especially depending on how you role play her, but I like to imagine my Lavellan surprises Solas with her forwardness. He's such an introvert, and so unassuming too (sorry everyone who thinks he's absolutely gorgeous, but for me, his personality made him attractive), it probably completely throws him off when Lavellan shows interest in him.

The first flirt (the one where Lavellan says she'd defend him against harm) he probably thinks she's just protective towards fellow elves, and fellow non circle mages in the case of a mage. Then a little later she comes back (I play it after they get into the Dalish are/aren't bigoted tree planters argument) and asks about her indomitable focus/grace/strength which is clearly a flirt (unless your Lavellan really loves hearing people compliment her), and then the I want to find new friends for you Solas XD! Which might be my favorite flirt in the whole game because it fit so perfectly.

Solas: Blahblahblah Spirits ARE PEOPLE? Don't you think so *stares aggressively*

Lavellan: *Aw, he's so passionate about spirits being people... which they definitely aren't.* "You have an interesting way of looking at the world, Solas.

Solas: "I try...and that isn't quite and answer."

Lavellan: "I look forward to helping you make new friends."

Solas: "That should be...well."

Lavellan: "That isn't quite an answer either."

Meanwhile I'm squeeeeinnnnngg out loud like a moron  :D

I don't know where I was going with this post, but it gave me an excuse to rewatch his first flirts so...:D

It seemed a fitting quote to honour him by.

I really appreciate Bioware giving two LI that allow the player to RP their character as ace.  I'm hoping this heralds more complex romance subplots where sex isn't the endgame senario.

I still get flustered when Solas talks about sex at the Winter Palace.  I was so surprised cause I thought he'd hate being at the party, but that boy was ready to get it, my god~!

He has the best quotes!

“Ginger: You know what the greatest tragedy is in the whole world?... It's all the people who never find out what it is they really want to do or what it is they're really good at. It's all the sons who become blacksmiths because their fathers were blacksmiths. It's all the people who could be really fantastic flute players who grow old and die without ever seeing a musical instrument, so they become bad plowmen instead. It's all the people with talents who never even find out. Maybe they are never even born in a time when it's even possible to find out. It's all the people who never get to know what it is that they can really be. It's all the wasted chances.”

Does this not remind you of a certain banter between Solas and I.B.?

I don't think Bioware usually has sex as an endgame scenario. In Origins sex was practically just an option with Zevran and Morrigan (not to mention Isabela and the prostitutes). It was hard to get to that point with Leliana, but that fit her personality, in my opinion. In DA2 there's a whole nother act after your sex scene with your romance. I don't think Inquisition was much different with handling their sex scenes, it just depends on the character. I'm not bent out of shape about Solas not having a sex scene, but I understand people who are disappointed. I like the idea of sex being optional in the relationship for certain characters. This obviously wouldn't work for the Zevran and Isabela's of Thedas, but would be nice for the more lovey dovey ones. They did this with Dorian if I'm not mistaken?

To me, Solas doesn't seem like he's really into the bondage scene. Although I don't think he would object if Lavellan wanted to play.

As for "tapped that".... in my playthrough they never had sex yet. I would have liked a scene in the game that heavily suggested that they did the deed. And not just with words/acknowledgment. I respect Weekes' decision to be ambiguous about sex within the romance, but I like my characters to seal the deal with their LI because they are in it for the long term.

If we never get such a scene, well then I guess I will just have to imagine in my head that my Lavellan and Solas screamed each others names in a hot, sweaty embrace underneath the moonlight.

Dragon Age is pretty good when it comes to sex and relationships.  Mass Effect is less good.

I think the 'side benefits' line is the closest you'll get to references to a sex scene.  Unless Wolf Hunt adds in a sex scene as an option.  I think for Solas and Josie it's important to leave the sex up to the player, that way those who play their Inky as ace will still have an LI that works for them.

It's definitely an endgame scenario in Mass Effect. I didn't mind it in ME1, since the timing made sense with what was happening. But the second and third games, yeah, it was a case of "we're near endgame, here's your sex scene." Which is fine, I suppose, but I much prefer where the relationship and intimacy isn't something you "achieve" right before the game is over. I like how Dragon Age has approached that.

Yeah, it's refreshing. Besides, I'm not sure if I understand the need for.. well, not just sex scenes but seeing characters naked or else... especially that, let's face it, when it comes to cutscenes and animations, graphics in RPGs aren't there yet in terms of realism >.>' and most of these things look pretty awkward, especially if they focus on.... too much detail, instead of fading to black or choosing a less overt, but more suggestive cadre. Leave more to the imagination, game! :P

I mean, I suppose sex scene (or at least implication of sex) is kinda necessary whether it fits the character (like Iron Bull romance) or if it turns out that there's a kid on the way.... Which I'm not sure isn't what's happening for Blackwall, at the very least. That zoom (in final romance scene) from him kissing IQ to a toy he made looks kinda suspicious, lol.

Preach it. Solas isn't bad looking at all (at the very least, he's interesting), but for me intelligence and personality always makes a person waaay more attractive.

Anyway - I think there are places in the game that suggest that them being constantly surprised by one another is one of the major factors why they're attracted to each other in the first place. There are a few instances in the game where Solas tells Lavellan that she manages to stump or surprise him and she admits the same.

It's like a constant discovery trip, which obviously isn't over yet (for both of them methinks!)

I somehow always thought Solas was the kind of introvert who acts reserved most of the time but is surprisingly passionate and... well, unleashed... when it comes to intimacy. Or that's just my imagination :D

I think it's the "still waters run deep" effect :D Most people who see him must've initially assumed that when it comes to matters of romance or intimacy he's going to be your average, awkward nerd..... but nooooo. The first time I heard him respond to Lavellan flirting I nearly destroyed my keyboard by spitting tea all over it - genuine "what the hell?" moment.

As for Solas being passionate... well I think we can all safely say that he's passionate, like - overall. There are some serious emotions boiling underneath and if he has a strong opinion about something, people are sure going to hear it at some point.

As for intimacy - I think the appeal lies in the fact that he's just so goddamn confident, maybe even nonchalant about much of it. Like, if he's about to get intimate, the girl will sure like it, I suppose. Just look at Lavellan when he surprises her by kissing her back in the Fade - it serves as a good contrast to Cullen's first kiss scene, which is adorkably awkward, and Inquisitor is kinda stumped for a moment, faintly fights back only to mellow out. There's not a shadow of that in the Fade scene, Lavellan is completely into it :P

(what makes the Fade scene somewhat hilarious for me is that they composed the shot in a way that the ambient lighting gives Solas the closest I've seen to "quivering anime eyes" when he gives in and leans to kiss Lavellan again. I mean, come on Bioware - not only your elves look suspiciously anime-ish, with their lithe frames, thin limbs, big heads and huge eyes, but you have to give them 'quivering anime eyes" as well? :D)

I may take you up on that offer :) I have a few Pratchett books on my summer reading list too.

Ah, well I've never played any of the Mass Effect games so I'm unable to judge the romance in them.

I do appreciate the diversity and character BioWare has to offer in it's romances. Before I ever bought Origins or DA2 the only game I ever played that had romance options was Skyrim... if that counts, which it really shouldn't because they're about as interesting as watching moss grow (sorry Farkas, but I had more interesting conversations with Meeko).

It seemed fitting that there was no sex scene. It added to the mystery of him as a character, letting the player wonder what exactly he would be like in bed. My imagination can definitely fill in the gaps.

As for him being surprisingly confident, I ascribe it to age and experience. He's had at least a millenium to figure relationships out and how to be himself in one. Plus, I think we had a discussion before that he must've been very popular with the ladies in ancient Arlathan.

Haha yeah. They sounded good on paper, but in reality... well the Elder Scrolls isn't really known for it's in depth and realistic characters. It never used to bother me, but I guess after being introduced to BioWare I realized how much was missing from them.

Lol. I only ever played the very beginning of Dragon's Dogma (it was a gift so I felt obligated to play, but boy did I find it boring), but I read a really funny review for the game and in it the author talks about their accidental child bride.

Guys come on. Aside from Dragon Age, the best romance in any other game is obviously Harvest Moon. Farming and giving turnips to ladies is the best.

TES has fantastic world and lore, which is why me and my RPG guildies have fun with it in ESO :) Advice to anyone planning to RP in ESO anytime soon though... avoid vampire guilds. Unless you're really into kinky stuff, I suppose.

DD's beginning can be daunting, but after you figure out combat and vocations, it's fantastic in that regard. I spent innumerable hours just fighting and killing stuff, especially in their "Dark Souls"-inspired DLC.

Story wise though? It has a really great potential, but the story isn't executed well and the quest structure is pretty abysmal - if you don't complete some side-quests in specific order, you'll get permanently locked out of large areas of map (which isn't huge to begin with) and some quests with essential story information.

Their romances and importance to the plot are the icing on the hilarity cake though. Not only the affinity system is confusing as hell (even in NG+ and with wikia guide in the hand we can still get the wrong LI), at first it seems like they're optional, only to turn out that they're pretty pivotal to the main plot.... it doesn't help that majority (all) of LIs are generic and shallow as a puddle and I don't buy at all that they're in love with my Arisen, considering the paltry amount of interactions we get.
