Well, when you put it that way.... :P

Playing mage freedom sympathetic characters does play a part. Anders, especially after Awakening, just tugged at my caring and nurturing instincts as a player. And playing a character on his side as well as getting into the protective of my little mage sister part, father' the rest of the pain....well, it kind of made sense to go in that direction.

With Solas, the attraction at first was both smooth and dorky and charming that it was a whole other story. And again, playing highly sympathetic to mages and freedom (especially as someone Dalish, even with the mage policy and weirdness with spirits, freedom is important to them).

My first play through was as a super anti-Circle, pro-freedom, mage. I role-played a Hawke who was in agreement with Anders about almost everything and she was just too innocent life and honesty in a relationship sympathetic though! And as you can tell I'm she's completely over Anders!! I'm completely over it! Not angry at all! (hatehatehatehatehatehatehateAndersmypoorHawkewhatdidyoudotoherhatehatehatehatehateAnderswhateverthereareotherfishintheseashedoesn'tneedyouoryourcrazy!MypoorHawkeisstillsosadgoHawkeflyoffandreboundwithVarric)

Well, that's just it, since pretty much everyone says something to that effect, Solas' "warning" just comes across as business as usual. Even after the breakup I wasn't completely sure it's over, since Fenris came back eventually.

Ohmygracious yes. Stupid Solas was supposed to get cold feet and then come back. That's how DA male elves do it! I waited and waited and rushed through the main quest just for the part where we would get back together. Then I rushed through the banquet because obviously he'd be waiting for me in my room. Then I rushed through the Morrigan narration-- and holy crap he IS the Dread Wolf! WAIT! THAT CAN'T BE IT! THIS CAN'T BE THE END!!! SOOOOLLLAAAASSSS.

Video game characters need better warnings. How about?

Blackwall: We shouldn't be together

*Inquisitor keeps flirting*

Blackwall: I've killed children

See? Now who's still interested? Or, you know, they could grow a backbone and not enter into a relationship with our unsuspecting protagonists! Ah, who am I kidding, I love Solas and his lack of will power against my Lavellan.

See, even with prior knowledge he was going to dump my elf at some point I STILL didn't see it coming! I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't know when.I thought; "It's obviously going to happen right after the cory battle" I mean there was no way it would randomly happen during such a romantic moment right? RIGHT?

I needed a different kind warning for both Solas and Cullen though;

"Don't romance us first, you won't romance anyone else if you do!"

CapricornSun you aren't interrupting :) we're replying to each other every couple minutes about vaguely Solas related things (and other fantasy video games: ). You're acting like we're all in a face-to-face discussion and you just decided to run between us and start throwing Solas art in our face. Or your the quite person in a meeting an everyone else is arguing and the boss is rubbing her temples and you have a great idea and are trying to share, but no one else can hear you and you keep apologizing and speaking softly. Just jump onto the table and shout your idea to the world CapricornSun! Everyone else can shut it! Look, now I feel bad for fictional work place CapricornSun... it's getting late. I should probably go to bed.

I want my Lavellan to wear a pretty dress :'(

The animal analogies are cute, but as Cole shares, they're dragon horns, not bull horns! :D

Not really that sure about that.... I mean, most of romance scenes end with Solas pretty much RUNNING AWAY >.>'''

*scene in the Fade - they kiss, then he tells her that they shouldn't and basically kicks her from the Fade

*balcony scene - he only goes with the kiss after Lavellan stops him from running away, goes back, goes as far as confessing that he loves her... but then he BOLTS!

*vallaslin scene - ... well we do know how that one ended

The guy has "I am horribly conflicted!" pretty much written all over his face. Really, this romance reminds me of taming of a wild animal ("Aw! I'm gaining his trust! He's approaching me... Oh... wait! Aw, he ran away again :( ")

I actually find it amusing that he seems most comfortable with the relationship in the Winter Palace, of all places. I mean, neither seem to make their affair very public to begin with and yet, after the whole thing in Halamshiral, he approaches Lavellan with obvious intent to comfort her and either encourages her to dance with him or isn't shy to cuddle (dat glitched animation though...). They're alone, but the possibility of them being discovered by someone is pretty goddamn high... Higher than in Skyhold, that's for sure.

My Elder Scrolls senses are tingling!

I can safely say that the entire Elder Scrolls universe has some fantastic, and wacky lore in the setting. It's actually a shame 80% of it is given through in-game books (with stories, not just straight up codexes) because most players don't bother picking them up unless they're skill books.

I've been going back and forth between ESO and DA lately as well! I have a werewolf Bosmer "dragon knight" and an Argonian sorcerer that I've finished the main story with, and I just started up an Argonian dragon knight (for the hilarity of plant people spitting fire), and an Imperial nightblade.

Well, if anyone here has a PC version and wants to do some dungeoning or PVP, feel free to PM me :) I haven't played ESO regularly for some time (my Internet is very unstable, sadly), but as someone who played since Early Accees and as a long-standing member of a decent raiding guild (and after completing single-player campaigns fully FOUR TIMES with my four characters), at this point I happen to know group dungeons and most of ESO content pretty much like a back of my own hand :D

After my Solas romance playthrough, I did a playthrough romancing Josephine. It was great, she was sweet, charming, graceful, and my Inquisitor was her knight in shining armor. But every time on the way to Josephine's office she would swing by the rotunda and linger there for a while... With unexplainable pain in her heart...

Haha, same for my next playthroughs. One is romancing I.B. the other Cullen, yet both of them are always surprised when there's no flirt option and the Fade scene doesn't end in a kiss.

Side note: Is it weird that our Dalish elves refer to the Fade as the Fade and not the Beyond?

It's definitely weird, even Solas refers to it as the Fade and not the Beyond, which seems a little weird since you'd think he'd exclusively use the elven term for it? That the Dalish Warden would nearly always refer to it as the "Beyond" during conversations when talking about the Fade, was something I always enjoyed playing Origins, as it gave a nice multicultural vibe to the game.

It also irks me that Lavellan can say "Maker, will you two shut up!" during HTLA, rather than invoking the Creators. I know it's a minor thing, but it'd have been nice to have them given us just a little alternate bit of dialogue for that scene.

I second the commentary on Anders' doing everything short of borrowing Varric's 'Just Don't' sign and smacking Hawke with it.

As for Geralt's characterization...

Less a broody warrior, and more a drama queen.  The other Witchers make fun of him for it. He doesn't really angst as much in the games as he does in the books. He comes across as dour and stoic in general, but once you get a feel for him, the writers and actors really managed to get a wealth of underhanded sass, contempt, amusement, etcetera. He didn't start clicking until he started correcting peasants' grammar under his breath as they hurled insults at him, Stannis style, back in W1.  ^_^ A lot of the 'brooding' is exasperation, ME2/3 Shepard levels. Particularly with portals, mages doing weird ****, people trying to kill him instead of paying him, portals, and weird stinky cheeses.

While he's lost a lot of people, there's not really the, "grieving takes out his grief by pummeling Drowners to death", more "I'd like to have money to not die, and these people are being harassed by Drowners. Bread-and-butter contract, literally."

Basically, I thought he was the stereotypical grunting action hero protagonist, but he's not. One of my favorite protagonists, actually. I do admit he's trickier than most to get into. The whole amnesia thing in 1 makes it difficult. I'd say W3 is the one that has the best characterization of Geralt. (By which I mean the most sass, of course.)

(*continues crusade to get everyone to play The Witcher*

*takes a break to head to the Witcher forum to get everyone to play DA*)

My headcanon is that Lavellan wanted to spare her own gods that trouble.

The out-of-universe reason is that some ass of an animator would make Solas giggle and give the whole thing away.

Yeah! I guess you can role play that Lavellan is trying to fit in or the shem's are rubbing off on her, but you'd still think she'd refer to it as the Beyond at least in the beginning. I wish my Lavellan would invoke the Creators (I play her as atheist, but that's still something that gets ingrained) and what are the chances that your Dalish Elf never goes "Dread Wolf take you!" or "May the Dread Wolf never catch your sent." I would of loved to see if Solas would react X)

Ah, I never played Origins. I know everyone says it's great and I have a general idea of the story, but I just never saw the appeal. It really bugs me that the Warden is not voiced. Which ironically is most probably why a Dalish Warden can call it a Beyond and not the Fade there.

I kind of forgot that the Dalish referred to the Fade as the Beyond. It's kind of sad that Lavellan never gets to refer to it that way. :(

Play iiiiiittt! As much as I love DAI, DAO is probably my favorite in the series. :) It could be nostalgia talking but still, I had such fond memories with that game. I know the Warden is not voiced but don't let that deter you from playing it. Also, you'll get to know more about the backstory of certain characters like Alistair and Morrigan; and about events leading up to the later games.

Plus, the tales of Fen'Harel. Oooh the days when I pictured him differently when I first played DAO. xD

I actually liked the uniforms for the ball. They were there to do work, not to party, so a dress would've been rather cumbersome and out of place. I also quite liked the more gender neutral nature of the outfits. It just seemed fitting to present The Inquisition united that way. I took Vivienne to the ball thinking she might have something to add but not really, and she was the only one I felt bad for in subjecting them to those outfits.

True. Still, I would've liked a pretty dress. :( I didn't like how my Lavellan looked like something from The Nutcracker. Then again, even in the Mark of the Assassin DLC, even f!Hawke herself never got to wear a pretty dress to the party. Sure, I know there are people who liked it and it's more practical, but me personally, I HATED what she wore.  :pinched: (Heck, I liked Tallis' outfit better.)

*sigh* I might as well do artwork of my Lavellan wearing a pretty dress to Halamshiral.  -_-

I can't imagine changing out of a tightly laced corset and the multiple layers of petticoats in keeping with Orlesian fashion (all without creasing my dress and not looking dishevelled on my return) every time I needed to leave the ballroom to perform reconnaissance.

See, my Lavellan would have wanted to wear something like this.

Spoiler

That's pretty easy in, easy out. I mean, if it takes less time to put on the dress compared to her armor....then no excuse.

But if it had been one of those Orlesian nightmare dresses.....then I get it.

Oh, and why a dress like this? I imagine this is close to Arlathan style....and I think it would have been sweet if like, Leliana and Josephine asked Solas if he had ever seen really amazing looking dresses in his Fade journeys. So you know, Lavellan could stand out. And stuff. yeah.
