I assume since they originally were writing for a human-only protagonist. Hence Lavellan asking Morrigan who Mythal is and other headscratchers.

I love the elf-specific lines we do get, though. Even ones that don't have the Elf Icon on the wheel. Mine can ask Varric if he's with the Chantry because she legitimately doesn't know their stance on dwarves. Learn about/debate the Chant of Light, Exalted March on the Dales etc. with Mother Giselle. Ask Cullen about Templars since the Keeper told her to stay away from them. There's more, that's just off the top of my head. But I think it's pretty well balanced, for the most part.

Edit: But as to why Lavellan doesn't call it the Beyond specifically, probably for no other reason than not having to re-record every single mention of it. The Fade is mentioned a LOT.

The 'are you with the Chantry' line is actually a general line.  My Magevelyan got it too.

He could be astonished that a physical body can cross through the Veil and survive in the Fade, separated from the physical world. Note he is not nearly as amazed by the opposite, when spirits cross through the rifts to enter the physical world. So it's not the simple crossing of the veil or the mixing of Fade with the physical world that he finds surprising.

Whether he created it or switched on or strengthened it would make no difference to me, the bottom line is he did something to separate (or strengthen the separation) between the physcial and the world of spirits.

Keep in mind that he did mention that there were times during the rules of elves when they walked the Fade physically.

(from banter)

Dorian: I can't believe you entered the Fade. Physically.
Solas: You think that is an achievement of which to be proud?
Dorian: It's the second time that's been done in all of history. That's not nothing, Solas.
Solas: In all of human history.
Dorian: The Fade is still a mystery to us humans, yes. Probably always will be.
Solas: Perhaps it's best it remain that way.

There are also numerous broken eluvians we see in the Fade, probably from times elves moved in and from it relatively easily. Solas has therefore NOT lived in long-forgotten times when it was possible - given that he's never done that himself - therefore even more strongly indicating that he is younger than the Veil.

I think, quite the opposite, he knows more about the Anchor than he shows. He's the one who first showed the Inquisitor how to seal a rift, he's also the one who prevented the mark from killing them. I think the only thing that baffles him is that a mere mortal could handle the power of the Anchor, and he is not sure what effect the Anchor would exert on a mortal body.

That he knows a bit more than others - yes. But he doesn't know much - ill the Anchor was tested, he only theorized that it would be possible to seal the rift.

And don't forget that the scene in the Fade is basically him telling us how he tried to seal the Breach and failed to do so to a point that he considered running away. He was astonished both by Inquisitor waking up as well as Anchor managing to seal anything - he literally tells Inquisitor that 'he felt the whole world change' after that stunt.

He's also surprised that Anchor itself helps to dream Inquisitor with such focus - to a point that it helps us visit Solas in dreams, probably somewhere deep in the Fade. He tells Quizzy that even for a mage, it shouldn't be possible for IQ to find him with such ease.

So he knows the Anchor is special, but what exactly it is and what it can do... don't think so.

So the only question I can sort of answer is how Morrigan got the Eluvian to Skyhold. If you played The Last Court there is a scenario where she asks for your helpto repair "something of importance." If you agree to it she will stay for a while in the game to fix it. She then transports a giant covered object via horse and wagon to an undisclosed location. You can force her to show you what it is if you have enough stats.

Edit: I have no idea how she gets it there if you refuse her.

I know, but it's an example of how you can RP elfy cluelessness into the story if you want to. It actually makes less sense that a Trevelyan would ask that, IMO.

Solas does mention that Lavellan clan is pretty unique, as in, they're curious enough about affairs of humans that they sent their own spy to find out what Conclave was about. I assuem it also means that it's more open-minded about shemlens - it can also be seen in war table missions, especially after we manage to save the clan and free Wycome.

See, our opinions aren't so different! I would also love to see Cole in the next game as a companion, although it would make me sad thinking of him not being with my Inquisitor, and yes, more differences between more spirit Cole vs more human!

Oh I see! In that case you can...pretend she's saying it? :P Only way I can rationalize the "So this Mythal was a goddess????" thing is if I just pretend it's Cassandra speaking, for example. That makes it way better in my head.

I love clan Lavellan! I headcanon both of my Trevelyans as very distant with their family, but my Lavellan loves and misses her clan! They have to be a special clan to be willing to stay in Wycome, with the threat to their own well being, just to keep the city elves safe!

I don't ask Morrigan questions -.- *sigh* my Lavellan making a fool of herself infront Solas and some shemlen witch.

Haha, I headcanon that she does it to fit in and that she's had previous experience with humans and their culture. i was just wondering about you guys! :D That's a good idea with pretending it's Cassandra though! I pretend Solas is explaining the meaning Abelas to my other companions.

See red phrase above. Solas is contradicting himself here, acting like it's no big deal when he did express astonishment of going physically in the Fade. I think he's basically showing off in this conversation, implying, "We, elves, know a lot more about the Fade than you, humans."

Also, in the Fade Haven scene he mentions he is surpised that the Inquisitor went through the Fade physically and survived. If elves walked the Fade physically in the past, why would he be surprised?

I thought eluvians lead to Crossroads, which is a separate realm from the Fade?

Okay, I can kind of see her commanding some poor random Skyhold servants to pick it up and take it to where she wants it in the fort. I guess everyone just thought it was a normal mirror then.

The Anchor was created via some ritual Corypheus was performing, so even though the source was the orb, which Solas knew very well, the result, especially if corrupted, it is entirely possible, as you say, that he didn't know exactly what to make of it.

He would rather spend 20 words to say a sentence that obscures things a bit than outright lie. He is genuinely surprised by certain things --your survival, Corypheus' survival, the rift sealing (I see no reason for him to lie about this other than to manipulate you into helping but although he does guide the Inquisitor with suggestions to secure influence, such as discovering Skyhold), the dreams. Your power comes from his power, but it is not his power in a pure form, but a corrupted one.

He's not contradicting himself, he just doesn't share Dorian's astonishment or 'pride' in it being accomplished second time in history (since he implies heavily that crossing the Fade has been something elves did at some point).

Also, in the Fade Haven scene he mentions he is surpised that the Inquisitor went through the Fade physically and survived. If elves walked the Fade physically in the past, why would he be surprised?

Direct quote: "You were never going to wake up. How could you? A mortal sent physically through the Fade".

Add to that the fact that the ability to walk the Fade was likely lost by ancient elves (immortal or not), hence he was never there physically himself - which, like I said, indicates that he's younger than the Veil itself.

I thought eluvians lead to Crossroads, which is a separate realm from the Fade?

Well then how come Kieran can direct one to the Fade? How come Inquisitor and Morrigan cross to the Fade if there isn't eluvian there to connect to?

Also - you never noticed broken eluvians? Have you ever collected those little buffs we can get in the Fade (you know, +1 Willpower, +1 Constitution...) - aside from those we get from completing a side-quest, those are all literally taken out of broken eluvians :)

Honestly, I am hesitant to even speculate on a DAI companion, that might transfer to a new companion spot in DA4. However, I can totally imagine Scout Harding becoming a full fledged companion in the next game. She gives me those Isabella/Merrill vibes (i.e. noon-companion characters that later become companions in the second game.

As for the first three questions @Neverlandhunter asked:

1) I like too many to mention, but a few examples would be - Shale, Aveline, Nathaniel, Cole, Sigrun, Carver, Varric.

2) Elves, elves and MORE elves!! Or more precisely - Zevran, Fenris, Solas. B)

3) Again, too many to mention, but here is a list of examples - Shianni and Soris, Gorim, The Lady of the Forest, Wade and Harren, Bodhan and Sandal, Scout Harding, Maras, Seamus, Knight-captain Rylen, Charter. And on the antagonistic side - Loghain, The Architect, Flemeth (she sort of falls into a weird category all her own  ), the Arishok.

I enjoy bringing Aveline and Donnic together but I would totally romance Aveline if it were possible.

As far as romances, Alistair and Solas for different reasons. (The Anders trainwreck romance was also valuable, memorable, and gave me feelings but they were all over the place.)

As far as DA4 companion to carry forth - Dorian, especially if we're going to Tevinter.

Why thank you, though Dragon Age has led me to believe that sir, serah, and ser are all male/female interchangeable X) though madame works for me too!

Reminds me of a time when my 10 year sister walked in on my playing Dragon Age

"I have a report for you ser."

Little Sister: Why'd she call you sir?
