Discussing is fun. The problem with this topic though is that it often has veered off into "right and wrong". Which is just..the un-fun.  Also it's the un-uh...not how the game was. There was no right or wrong. Every Inquisitor is different.  Solas likes you either way. And frankly - if he didn't - um..."Eff him." Seriously, is that the kind of guy that anyone should want to stay with? "OH no! If only I had taken them off/kept them on HE WOULD HAVE STAYED. LOVED ME MORE." *claws at face because I'm CUUUHHHH-RAZZZY*. 

 

Sorry this is not directed at you specifically but like...8 months of waspish back and forth over this is making ME crazy. 

 

Except it kind of hasn't. I see people giving their perspectives/stories for the most part, as well as communicating in-game contextual bits. It has been respectful and civil.

 

It has been months. New people arrive, others leave, discussions are repeated sometimes. Typical, really. No one is forcing anyone else to come in here and read or participate in the discussion.

Heads up to other Tumblr users- there's a 'military' Solas picture floating around and it's pretty much directly an SS officer uniform, so I dunno wtf is with that... but a general heads up because Tumblr is cray cray and people are going on about how 'cute' it is.

 One hint...maybe....is something that left me confused about the end of TME. Felassan's Mysterious Master (I'm not totally sold on the interpretation that it's Solas yet) stalks up to him in the Fade, and the last line implies he's been killed. Except didn't DA2 establish that killing a Dreamer in the Fade just renders them Tranquil in the physical world? There's something there that I'm missing.

 

In my opinion, it's definitely not him. Felassan is a Fen'Harel fanboy. He tells stories of him, he talks about him jovially, he has a certain admiration. As you noticed, he fears his master, he avoids sleep and the Fade. It doesn't imply he has been killed, it says he was killed.

 

I believe Dreamers can warp the Fade such to the point they can kill others.

I think it will stay with both answers are just fine. Main reason, the way Solas is about it. He loves Lavellan either way and if the vallaslin actually posed a danger to her, I'm sure he would have begged her to reconsider whatever her decision was.

Just like he did with the Well of Sor--never mind...

I find it odd when people who find statements problematic because they consider their factual provenance dubious do not bother to provide evidence to support their position, allowing discussion to degenerate into the no-win situation of opinion vs. opinion. For some reason, I thought this thread was better than that. Clearly, I was naive.

If anybody would like to discuss this further, please contact me via PM. Several people have already expressed discomfort over the topic, and I have no wish to be the cause of a thread shutdown.

Haha, exactly! I did hear that was a writing mistake though.

How awful would that be though if it was the case with her vallaslin. "You are perfect exactly as you are, but when the pantheon comes back those marks will act as a magical rune on your face forcing you to submit.I highly suggest removing them."

I understand that not everyone comes from the same background where an image/uniform like that may be instantly recognizable, which is why I thought it might be worth the heads up. I think the person is probably just trolling the tag to see if anyone notices, but... like I said, it's worth pointing out.

Well it is blood writing (that's what it translates to) - though if it has any connection with blood magic is anyone's guess. Oh, that explains it... I always wondered why he was so p*ssed off that Lavellan drank when all the advice he offered was, "[Morrigan] cannot be trusted." and "No. Don't ask me again."

Well....good, because I was confused by him saying a ) don't trust Morrigan with it, b ) I'm sure as hell not taking it, c) but someone should still take it! Then we get back and he's extremely pissed and why doesn't my Inquisitor ever listen to him.

On the other hand, maybe it's good we didn't get him outright pleading after all. That might have been a bit more suspicious.

Well, in any case - it's not like Solas says "you drink it!", he only says "she is right about only one thing - we must take the power of the Well", so it's not like he's suggesting that Inquisitor should do it.

 

Maybe they've cut it so disliked Inquisitor doesn't know what they're in for? I mean, IQ only gets told how drinking form the Well will affect them if they're befriended/romanced, while the disliked one only get a pretty smug Solas telling Quizzy "Ah, I can't wait to see how this will end for you".

 

 

 

Anyway... I also heard that the whole "I gave Coypheus the orb" was a mistake too and that at first the story was that Cory stole the thing - but something went wrong with voiceover so they stuck with him giving the orb.... Not sure if I believe it though. I mean, this is pretty crucial info.

Anyway, back to the topic.

 

Anyone finds it curious that The Emergent Compendium (http://dragonage.wik...gent_Compendium) from DAII's Black Emporium mentions Fen'Harel? 

 

Two shadowed spheres among stars subtitled "An eclipse as Fen'Harel stirred".

 

I'm kinda curious what it means (aside from... you know, ECLIPSE)? Also - how is a moon as big as Thedas' supposed to be fully eclipsed? ..... And where's the other moon? Behind the big one?

 

I also wonder if two overlapping spheres mentioned in Old Elven Writing (http://dragonage.wik...d_Elven_Writing) are supposed to represent moon eclipse as well? Or maybe the eclipse of the sun?
 

 

It would make sense if something happened during the eclipse - maybe Fen'Harel gained power OR perhaps unleashed some sort of power. Eclipses were always considered special, be it IRL or in fiction.

 

And while I maintain that the character of Solas is based mostly on Prometheus - as far as mythological bases for character go - his name and chosen animal obviously reference Fenrir, and this wolfy creature (or his descendants, Hati and Skoll) is supposed to bring Ragnarok/end to the world by... what else? Swallowing the sun.

 

....Who wants to bet me that at the very least the eclipse will happen before something Fen'Harel-related and will be important to the plot? Maybe this is why Solas sometimes seems to act like he's running out of time? Maybe the rare celestial event is imminent?

They can.  Remember the Act III quest to rescue the noblewoman?  All her kidnappers were dead by the time Hawke got there.

 

But I forget if they were manipulated to kill each other or if he actually killed them.
