He has a very flat muzzle then

 

From design standpoint Solas is simply a walking "Triangularity". What I mean is - all DAI elves have pretty sharp features that would fit into triangular shapes (I assume the inspiration was the triangular shape of their ears), but with his design they went with Triangle Overload

 

A quick GIF to show how much they just crammed there - with a few I probably missed due to laziness xD

Not an artist but... his face aways struck me as very geometric. The triangles, the circle of his head, it all conforms very closely to basic shapes. If you compare it to Cole for example whose face seems very ... irregular, in a way. *in total frustration over what I'm trying to say* But to me it makes him look stern and also somewhat mystical, like he's an abstract figure.

There's triangularity to cats as well

 

And like I said, there's a trinagular motif in all DAI elves design - my Lavellan also has something of a triangular, albeit much softer, thing going (especially that I see her totem animal being a fox... yes, this is as cheesy ans pretentious as it gets).

 

So while I think they DID go for some 'wolfy' motif in Solas design, I think his face was simply supposed to scream purebread 'ELFINESS!"

 

Yes, it's definitely sharper and intended to seem more 'pure'. Although DA elf designs have changed a bit, there is still some angular quality but in Solas it's like x100.

 

Funny enough, my canon Lavellan isn't very angular. My mage is. Maybe this was why my boyfriend said she didn't look very elven and compared her to dwarves.

I think so too. There's a certain triangular quality to Solas, and a sharpness that also gave me a 'wolf' vibe once I knew.

 

Somewhere between like, a wolf and a dog in the Spitz family.

Also did someone ask about Lavellans drinking from the well/keeping vallaslin or not? I thought I quoted it, but I guess not. It's probably for the best; I abuse that function badly enough as it is.

 

In any case, my Tala did drink from the well, because the way she sees it: yesplz to more possible knowledge, a deeper connection to her people's past, and being somewhat reckless and quick to act. And she did allow Solas to remove her vallaslin. I head canon that she got them re-done by her clan's keeper, in exactly the same fashion, after a time, when she comes to consider her previous actions to have been taken in a state of emotional fragility and without careful consideration. So I always draw/picture her with them, though there'd be a brief time where she was without.

So, I think I found an acceptable yarn for Solas' sweater. It's a tad bit darker than his sweater looks in game I think....but chances are it will lighten with washing and all that jazz.

 

Since you are all Solas experts and it gives you all a perfectly good excuse to study his sweater in detail, let me know what you think.
