I'll never stop crediting the team that brought this much emotion to life in one character.
The second one... I think my heart broke a bit
Luckily, flycam hidden horror took away some of the worst feels ^^

I am scratching my head a little bit.

hi. new to forums. played all the da games about 438984 times. i liked solas on my first playthrough but i was a human so no romance, on my 2nd i romanced him of course. and still waiting for a damn DLC to explain him and gain some closure for my poor elf quis.
srsly bioware hurry up with a dlc. enough of this sucky item packs V_V
Total opposite for me. I don't like Vivienne, Sera is annoying.. and I don't care much for Blackwall.
You all know how I feel about Solas and Cole or I wouldn't be here. :-P
I don't understand how anyone can dislike Cole. He's just such an adorable little bunny.
Who kills people.

i like all the companions apart from Vivienne. Cole is a sweet heart i dont get how people dislike him. I find Sera amusing, especially Sera x Blackwall banter.
I try and get along with Vivienne but she's a stuck up cow and I hate her!!
That's ok - it's likely that Vivienne hates you as well ![]()
I love all the companions. I think they all bring something different and interesting to the table and add to the story in some way. There are characters that I prefer more than others, certainly, but I think all of them add to the Inquisitor's story.
Vivienne is tricky because you have to sort of game the relationship system OR be pro-circle mage(which few rarely are) to get her approval to a high enough level where she allows you to see underneath her ice cold demeanor. She is a very sharp woman and clearly very good for an Inquisitor to have around when playing politics. I was actually miraculously able to get her to a high enough approval rating on my first play-through and really grew to respect and admire her. Like Cassandra - she is unyielding and unwilling to bend her beliefs just to please others. They just happen to be unpopular with the fandom at large. She also deeply cares. She loved Bastien very much and with a friendly Inquisitor she cares for them deeply. I think if you - the Inquisitor died - and she was friends with you. She would be devastated. She also is a great friend. She wrote to that snotty tevinter mage and told him to stuff it when he was maligning Dorian. So she's a very loyal friend.
And she has an interesting and fresh perspective on the circles that was sort of nice to see as Bioware has been poor about adding nuance to the circle vs. free mage argument.
So yay to Vivienne!!
My biggest problem with Vivienne isn't that. It's that when you complete her quest, she brings people around and just openly and blatantly uses you for her own personal gain and selfish social climbing.
She might have a few moments with some and show she cares, but she has a terrible personality and is utilizing world-threatening disaster to keep her own status.
I was so disgusted I stopped recruiting her.
Though I will again for my pro-Circle Trevelyan mage since I want to pair them in a sort of mentor-student relationship.
I love all companions too, but have a bit of a hard time reminding myself that I actually like Sera xD Sometimes I think she's too much like... well, me.
I do love Blackwall and Solas a lot though, probably most of the companions. Solas because... Solas. And Blackwall because I think at times he is the most human character in the game. I love that.
Cole and Dorian, my babies. No one hurts them! I'll cut you!
Vivienne... such a woman. I can see why she's admired and feared. I love befriending her, feels like such a accomplishment x)
Yeah she does - she also rearranges the furniture when she's angry. At least for me - they were laughably not a big deal. There are already nobles milling about. What are 2 more that take 5 min. of your time. Bull uses the Inquisition to gather intelligence for the Qun. Sera uses the Inquisition to continue her rebellion. Solas is potentially using it to bring about the end of days. Leliana uses you to leverage herself into being Divine.
I mean....none of the companions are altruistic except maybe Cole.
As for her personality - well that's obviously personal opinion. I thought her no less snotty than Dorian.

With Bull, it's an arrangement disclosed and agreed upon when you accept his service. With Sera, same thing (though Sera killing the noble I was questioning also made me angry and I told her to watch it). Solas is another case entirely but he is also pretty upfront with the necessary details - he is trying to help close the Breach and get the orb back. He doesn't tell you why but he repeats the necessary details which you discuss with him. It's an arrangement. Cassandra and Leliana both talk about the possibility of becoming Divine. Cassandra wants it too. You can support whoever you want but we know how that system works now.
Vivienne just straight up uses you with no agreement, no consent, and no warning. It's disgusting.
If she would have asked, that would've made all the difference in the world.
For me, I worked for a long time in the court system. In Scotland, you have your Sheriffs (Judges) and your Lords and Ladies (High Court Judges) and let me tell you, I have known more than a few people like Vivienne. I have no time for people who inherently think themselves so far above everyone else, who demand respect for just breathing rather than earn it like everyone else. Nope. She just pushes all of the wrong buttons, which I'm sure was what the writers intended. She's a great character in that respect and represents power and "the game" to the player very effectively. I just happen to think "the game" is one played by fools who don't notice the blade falling till their heads in the basket.
@Cee - I think disgusting is a bit of a harsh word. She's networking. I don't know you at all so I won't presume ANYTHING - but like, I see this ALL the time with attorneys I work with, in my professional career in upper management/executive management, my friends who are software developers, my sister who is a financial consultant. You schmooze, you use each other to get ahead. It's how business works. Is it "gross" I guess. But it's a fact of life. And it's a fact of Vivienne's life. My networking got my ex-boyfriend backstage to meet Trent Reznor at a NIN concert and hang out with Queens of the Stone Age. And it wasn't "Gross". It was a simple matter of being friendly over a period of time and saying hi at functions. I mean...that's seriously all she does. It wasn't like she betrayed you.
Doesn't she admit she's joining the Inquisition for political reasons at the start though? If you ask her about it? Or am I remembering it wrong? Something like "What do you get out of the deal?"

I thought her networking the nobles was hilarious. She is also being very honest and up front with you about what she is doing. So that was refreshing.
She does say something like that. She's in a position where her sources of power are in flux so she wants to be part of it. It doesn't mean come parade people around and use me personally for your own social climbing.

She can use me, darling. Just like most of the companions use me/the institution i represent.

I don't think disgusting is harsh at all. I was disgusted by her actions. Simple as that.
I'm aware many people do that, but I am a straightforward person who doesn't feel it's ethical to use other people. I socialize, I connect, I talk to people at work events, but I'm open when I ask for something. If they simply added a scene where she asks 'Hey, I have these people coming, could you just meet with them for a few minutes as a favor to me?' that would've changed the entire scenario.
As it stands, it disgusted me. I helped her all along, except the books quest because my pro mage freedom Lavellan had no reason to want to help the Circle and so yes, it felt like a minor betrayal.
Excuse it if you'd like with it being common but common doesn't mean ethical or right.
I always think that it's pretty obvious from the first meeting, that Vivienne wishes to use the rising Inquisition to help quell the turmoil and re-secure her position of influence in the Orlesian Courts. If you think about, the Mage rebellion was an exceptionally dangerous time for her, especially in Orlais, with the Divine dead and people clamouring to blame someone. Not a good time for any Mage, even one with the backing Vivienne has. She took a chance and threw her lot in with the Inquisition. Depending on your choices and friendship, you could have greatly helped her (Divine) or potentially ruined her (no Circle, no Celene, no Inquisition friendship, no Marquis). I mean, Vivienne as a Mage is not allowed to own property. So where can she go, if you choose that route?
