Too bad there's no approval system for advisors, because my Lavellan and Leliana would be at each other's throats by the end of the game, not just because of Josephine.

Is this officially canon? I mean it could happen like that but it could be interpreted in other ways.

Yup.  It's said ingame by Solas.  But not if you took the kiss option.  So a romanced Lavellan will never hear it.

These are casual relationships at first, but I think as soon as you enter the relationship, you can't pursue any other. You can't just get drunk and try with Bull one night, then go on a date with Cullen, they decide you liked Bull enough to go out for drinks with him again, spend one more night, and then ultimately decide you want to be serious with Cullen. You can't kiss Solas in the fade, realize it's the fade, throw a gasket at him for creepily entering your dreams without your consent, avoid him for a while and casually sleep with Josephine, get that warning talk from Leliana, tell her to mind her own business, then get back to Solas when you're not angry with him anymore. Just so many missed opportunities for great stories... Mostly I feel like you're locked into one linear romance that is essentially pre-defined for each character.

That would likely be an absolute NIGHTMARE to code - plus, we could pretty safely re-title DAI into "Dating simulator". I think it's enough that we have quite a few flirt and romance options, can pick who we romance, stop and pursue someone else if we fancied it, and it being addressed in occasional dialogue options or banter between previous and current love-interests.

It would probably end up with situations like in DAO where you could be in a committed relationship with Alistair - 100 love, slept with him, got the love confession - and accidently trigger Leliana's romance (stupid 'she was speical to you' line triggering the romance with no warning and stupid bugged 'lets be friends' option) and then get Alistair's jealousy talk, choose him and get a kiss which the game assums is your first kiss and have Alistair stuttering out 'was that too soon?'.

Dude, we had sex literally five minutes ago :I

It could be done with one short repeatable cutscene (similar to the kiss scene you currently get with most romances) that can be triggered but does not lock you in the relationship.

Given the length and breath of the game, romance interactions would still be, I estimate, 5% of the total gameplay. It doesn't have to be a full-on dating sim, just make the dating that is already there a tad more open to creativity.

Those are great options, I've had fun with them, and yes, it's enough. Still, I see things that could be made better and point them out, without even expecting anyone would eventually adress them.

Even though he doesn't outright say it happens that way, and I was slightly confused after (and also....slightly flustered because, wow), the fact that they're already in the Fade makes the most sense anyway. Otherwise Inquisitor's going "Hey, I want to chat, let's talk about you!" and Solas says "Cool! Let's do it.......after we both go to bed!" The only way the scene flows is if they were already in the Fade and he just changes the scenery, because that part was straight out of Inception.

It made a lot of sense to me (I didn't find it out until after I finished the game) because walking from Solas' room to Haven is just the sort of thing that happens in dreams and you don't question.

I agree, but the other way is also somewhat strange. You could be around Skyhold talking to your other companions, doing war table missions, then you walk into the rotunda and it turns out you're dreaming? Did you fall asleep in the middle of the main hall?

Indeed! Way more sense than walking from Solas' room to Crestwood and back for the culmination scene, that's for sure.

[...] just make the dating that is already there a tad more open to creativity.

I really want a 'have tea (or frilly cake) in Val Royeaux with your LI' option.  Or a 'go for a walk around Skyhold' one.  Or just more options.  There's a couple of mods in DAO that I use which add this kind of content with Alistair and Leliana.  It lets you have a repeatable date scene in an origin speific location, and also more scenes of the Warden and their LI just chilling out at camp.  They're fluffy and serve no purpose but they add so much to a romance.

I now always go up to Inky's room and jump on the bed a few times and then head stright to Solas before triggering that scene.

I'm such a nerd.

They didn't even have time to code in that little cutscene for Solas (let's face it, as much as the game and Solas' hidden nature and conflict over his feelings suggests that the whole romance thing was rather subdued, the reason we didn't get as much interactions with him was veeeery likely budget and time contrains), hence I doubt it was anything they've even considered.

It's still 5% or more percent completely wasted in most playthroughs. There's a considerable resource budget they already put in varying interactions an romances  in the first place, so...

Well, lets' be honest here - we're not playing a nobody here. The Herald Of Andraste is a sort of Thedas new and most talked-about celebrity, therefore such things would be hard NOT to note, story-wise, even among companions... People DO note when an ally is being romanced after all, no matter how private and innocent that romance is, AND Josephine reveals that there are craziest rumors about who's Inquisitor with anyway xD

In any case - the only thing people can count on is likely Citadel-like DLC, but we have no guarantee they even consider creating something like it for DAI.

I meant they could've planned for that to be there in the very beginning of game development. I wasn't talking specifically for Solas, I was talking about the romances being more open in general.

It may or may not be wasted, my point is it wouldn't turn the game into a dating sim.

I meant for the developers to notice, not for the companions.

... What if all of Skyhold is a dream? xD

What if everyone died in Haven, aside from Inquisitor, whom Solas keeps (barely) alive in order to get use of Anchor and eeeeeeeeeverything we experience is just an elaborate figment of our imagination?

What if Fen'Harel didn't lock the elven gods? What if he locked the elves, the humans, everyone, into a permanent dream from the moment they're born till their death, so that the gods can feed on the energy generated by their bodies? What if it is the fade that is real, and Thedas is just a dream?

In this analogy, the dwarves are simply machines programmed for system maintenance :P

Guys, I have a Solas art and I'm trying to find the original source but a reverse image search on Google isn't helping. Anyone know where this came from:

I'm talking more like random NPC's. Like Isabela at the brothel and the potential 4 way. And I said free-love - so that means everybody. But yah, casual sex. I'm sort of surprised they didn't do that given how in canon - there are so few hangups about sex especially in Ferelden. Also, it makes MORE sense with an a no-nonsense Inquisitor who just wants a way to blow off steam but doesn't want to get too involved.

Honestly I would totally have my Lavellan open a rift into a different VG universe to summon Avallac'h from The Witcher 3 if I could. And Eredin. Hell the entire Wild Hunt. But that's just silly.

Thank you! Finally someone who finds Avallac'h really sexy! Gosh, you have no idea how many different ways I would do him...uh I mean let my Lavellan do him :P
After I finished the game I was like "But I need more Aen Elle hotness! I didn't evem get to see Caranthir's face!"

@jawsisinmywc - YAS! All the Aen Elle.  From like 10 min. into the gam when Eredin shows up with his beauteous voice and skeleton ship - I was like "OH NO. OH NO".  Then Avallac'h and the way he rolled his r's and was all sad.  I was like 'no bby! I WILL LOVE YOU!'  AND YES at the disappointment at the lack of caranthir face reveal. he was super...umph...with that staff *WINK WINK*

I love Dorian and his romance, there's a chance I would've made it my main romance, but I can't get myself to play a male character, so misery with Solas it is.

Part of the issue with Solas, and to an extent the ninjamance of Blackwall, is that it takes more time to dump them and move to someone else, but it is possible to start with a couple of people. Even if things get more committed with someone like Dorian you can hurt him by keeping it casual. But it's still a casual relationship. Still if you want three and foursomes, not in this one. But I find the romances mostly better overall.

Some of them will also tell you to go dump so and so before they'll even be open to anything. Like Sera.

I like hers if you're romancing Solas. Something like 'If elfy's not doing it for you anymore, tell him first. I won't be anyone's second'.

Ninjamance - You're sort of locked into a romance without realizing it.  Blackwall does this if you flirt enough. Then you're sort of locked in without there being a clear cut - YES I WANT TO ENTER INTO A ROMANCE WITH YOU.

Leliana in Origins is also famous for doing this - it's even worse with her. She's like "I LOVE YOU" and you were like 'whoah there, we were just friends...and I was just being nice'

Ninjamances are romances that hit unexpectedly.  Leliana's romance is the best known example - one of her romance triggers ('she was speical to you') isn't a clear romance start line and the option to remain friends is bugged.  Blackwall's romance triggers with a kiss on the battlements and the game considered you locked in at this point (preventing you from romancing anyone else).  All of the ME1 LIs tend to be ninjas as the game will still like to trigger the romance scenes even without a romance.  Anders' romance, despite people giving it this lable, this not a ninjamance.  You click on the heart then you know damn well you're flirting with him.  Zev's romance isn't a ninjamance either, no matter what people who thought he was offering a totally heterosexual dudefriend massage claim.

Ironically, ninja'd.

ME1 is also bad for this, definitely. My Shepard's experience:

Shepard: *is nice to Kaidan, flirts heavily with Liara*

Kaidan: SUDDEN LOVE TRIANGLE DIALOGUE

Shepard: Kaidan, I'm not even into men.

They did get clearer about romance stuff but Blackwall managed to continue the ninjamance tradition.
