Solas Thread - NOW OFFICIALLY MOVED to Cyonan's BSN (link in OP)

I can totally see why someone would see it as something quick, and ultimately not very meaningful (or very meaningful but also very impermanent). I mean he pretty obviously goes in knowing it's a bad idea. So that opinion makes sense and is a totally realistic take on the situation.
To me though, I see more along the lines of "Solas wanted this to last but it absolutely couldn't." And that also makes sense.
Apparently if you romance Sera (which I have not done, but saw a video clip of this dialogue) you can ask Solas about a gift to give to her. He will advise you to give her something "human and fleeting," which suggests to me that any gift Solas would consider worthwhile would be "elven and lasting." Though my opinion on this may be totally wrong, I feel like that implies that when an ancient elf fell in love, it was going to be for a very long time. To me that is why he chose to take away the vallaslin, even though he wanted to tell Lavellan the whole truth (which would also have been a gift that is both elven and lasting).
The idea that maybe Solas, as an ancient elf, loves very strongly for a very long time also gives me the impression that Lavellan might be the only person he's considered pursuing romantically since he was betrayed, or lost his last lover. That might have been more than 1,000 years ago (since that's how long he has been sleeping). But, that is probably just me being a closet romantic. For all I know, he's been bedding every other elven woman he meets for the past 10,000 years or something.
Solas' betrayal seems to have come from a friend or confidante rather than a romantic relationship, IMO. When he talks about betrayal, he does so in response to an Inquisitor telling him to rely upon friends. It may be related to the murder of Mythal and been a catalyst for the rest of the moves he made. It's mere speculation but it would be consistent with his character to feel that sort of pain that came from some he may have trusted being responsible for his close friend's murder and betrayal right from under him.
I wonder what the timeline is from the murder of Mythal to the gods having been locked away. Since a codex we have mentions Abelas taking his name and settling into service, there were still gods to serve at that point, as far as we can tell. Mythal's murder predating the other event and Abelas mentioning Fen'Harel had no part in it.
My headcanon kind of falls between both of your guys' statements here. I totally agree that Solas would love infinitely and wholly, and that reflects itself in the 'gift' he offers to a Lavellan. On the flip side, as Cee says, I think that whoever betrayed Solas wasn't a love interest -- but rather a dear friend, or sibling, or comrade in arms. I believe Solas wasn't in the relationship knowing it'd be fleeting. He was just following his heart and always entertained the idea that things will work out and be fine -- or they fail, the world ends, and why not do it anyway?
IMHO, Solas would be a lot more self-hating if it was a love interest who betrayed him/Mythal/etc. Because he would take that blame unto himself. I see him feeling responsible, sure, but responsible for being a catalyst and then letting the pieces fall where they may... rather than for bringing a poison (betrayal) to the cause. And the hurt he seems to exhibit around not trusting anyone but himself and whatnot... that also seems symptomatic of backstabbing or self-interested comrades. Or just years, and years of playing the Game... you learn not to trust anyone.
My two cents, anyway.

So I'm going to open the box again since I always scratch my head about this. Why does it matter what mods people publish? It's not affecting your game, why does it offend some people when others use them?

I don't think anyone takes offence to any. Some just rub an individual's personal aesthetic the wrong way, or they remove their most favourite part. So any comments of or about mods should be seen as comments from the peanut gallery (ie: don't take it too seriously -- I doubt real offence is received or meant to be given).
Or at least, if people do get upset for reals, I don't understand it either.

Personally, I don't care what mods people use or don't use. But people can have whatever opinions they want on them. I think all media/art is wide open for criticism.
If it wasn't clear, my post earlier was in fun and continuing the comments about the missing freckles from yesterday, especially since many of us think his freckles enhance his look and/or are adorable or hot. ![]()
edit: Basically, as ChuChu said, it's kind of mildly in jest - "Unfreckled Solas? Unthinkable!". But, you know, all personal opinion.

The Cole fandom seems to be a little intense, rofl (I guess we are too?)... but don't let any of that get in the way of creativity. Just do what you do ![]()

Will there ever be a Cole-in-a-bikini mod?
HAHAH! Now THAT will definitely be an interesting mod. I would be very excited for anyone who makes it but the problem is that mesh. I haven't checked on the mesh problem in DAI but from what I can recall you can only change the mesh if they had the same polycount as original, otherwise it wouldn't work. This was the problem with hair mods and how people worked around hair.

While what Rabbit says is true, in the meantime you can use this set of pictures she has kindly provided the internet as a substitute until more advanced chainmail bikini mods are able to be produced.

Yeah the whole spirit child deal is intense there. Some people headcanon romancing a 20 year old Casper and the other is like, "lol, no you pedo". So aging up the man spirit child with psychic mind reading powers to an older man will solve it. I'm very curious to see what happens if I bother releasing it, will the cole fandom actually be ok for people romancing cole that way or will they view cole as a spirit child no matter the physical age and instead view spirits as incapable of feeling complex emotions such as love?
I'm in support of spirit x mortal relationships. Not that I participate in it. No Spectro. just kidding, hawke x nitemare 4evr.

Do you not want your son to have gains? Do you want to keep him thin and mangy like the mage he portrays at the time of his death starving in a cell because he was forgotten?
Yeah. me too.

Hi folks! It's been a while since I've stopped by, partially because I hadn't realized just how genuinely depressed my Solavellan ending had made me.
I'm finally able to face playing Jaws of Hakkon, and I've decided I will go ahead and roll back my Solavellan playthrough to before, um, endgame just to get a bit more interaction with him.
So here are my questions I was hoping y'all could help me with: How much interaction is there with Solas during JofH? And, does it matter if I play it before our Wyvern cave date or not?? (and I'm cool with JofH spoilers, as I finally finished it with my Trev) Is any of it remotely romance related?? I guess my romance flag is still active after the date (:sob:), but then, he doesn't call me vhenan any more (:more gross sobbing:).
(and, please excuse how ridiculously pathetic this post sounds, but you know... REASONS) Thanks in advance!

I also played it just before end game, and it was after the cave date.
You will get the usual party banter. I had cass comment on my lack of tats twice...shut up cass it hurts V_V
Other than that, there will be a moment where they are talking about elven gods. and if you click the right things they say ah I forgot about fen'harel. And Solas mumbles: most people usually do.

I've played JoH both before wyvern cave and after Cory fight. Besides what jeniva posted, Solas makes a few other comments. It will be blatantly obvious which quests/npc interactions he will join in conversation with (usually). I would say that all of it is not romance related but... there is a part or two that could add some nuance in a relatable way.
IMHO, I recommend playing JoH before the third romance scene.

Only twice? In my last Lavellan playthrough I've been using cheat engine and banter toggle and I think I've must've reached end of banter for both, because she wouldn't shut up about it =_=

Anyway - fun 'fact' time. We know that Solas hates tea - and according to Patrick Weekes (in NerdAppropriate interview) rather than hating tea for tea itself, he dislikes everything that's caffeinated, as caffeine is making passing to Fade somewhat difficult.
Well... it means Solas hates chocolate too
(no frilly cakes covered in chocolate!)
Cocoa powder contains caffeine - not huge amounts, but enough for people sensitive to it to feel its effects. And I assume he's sensitive to it no matter the doses, considering there's not that much of caffeine/theobromine in tea as well.

I've had this one at least 10 times. i eventually lost count. Two times I had it trigger twice in the same night.
After the first...three or so, I kind of began saying responses at her. If you shouldn't have asked, why do you KEEP asking? etc.

I'll admit that I've thought about whether or not he would eat chocolate because of the caffeine.....
And I think yes...yes he would. If someone were to point that fact out to him, he would probably argue about the health benefits and mention that it is a mild aphrodisiac. And something about peoples toes being dipped in melted chocolate and slowly licked off by their lovers in ancient Arlathan. ![]()

It may be that many of these frilly cakes aren't covered in chocolate after all
Well, think about it that way - more chocolate for Lavellan!
Ooooh, but I can imagine this scenario:
Lavellan: (after long battle, Lavellan manages to snatch a big chocolate box from Josephine and Leliana's clutches)
Solas: (sees Quizzy preparing herself for the feast) But... vhenan, we were supposed to meet in the Fade today.
Lavellan: Butbut...
Solas: *puppy eyes*
Lavellan:

Uh, but now I realize I picked up the rift mage specialization. Does that mean Lavellan had to give up chocolate? Your Teacher left that part out!
