To be fair, the hands in DAI are much better than DAO where they barely looked like human hands (too much space between the fingers usually) or DA2 where they tried to get overly detailed with the lines on the hands.
Such fine detail like hand animation must take quite a lot of resources to create, plus the necessity to create individual bones (a 'scaffolding' every model has in order to actually be animate... able
. Even hair in 3D games have such 'bones' xD).
I assume however that bone number and overall, low-poly (and simplistic texture) of body models - especially compared to heads - stems from the fact that they've had to save space and computing power in order for the game to run on last-gen consoles. Hopefully we'll see more detailed bodies, hair and animation in DA4 :3
Yeah, it's based on male/female walk animations being different. I always think the male one just looks ridiculous anyway. Hopefully they'll cut this out next game by not bothering with gender-separated walks.
They may not make the animation as overtly manly/womanly, but the truth is that females do have a different walk cycle compared to males. There are differences in anatomy, especially the hip area (as well as generally more flexible/curvier spine, with one additional vertebrae curved compared to males), which affects how we walk to some extent.
I haven't paid attention to male IQs as much, but yeah, there's a certain manliness the female IQ walk. Also it looks like their legs are dragging too far in front of their torso.
...They mostly walk like they're wearing full diapers
It's even more noticeable in females, because differences in anatomy/shapes/height between body models seems to deform the model utilizing the animation not specifically designed for it. Which is also why female IQs also noticeably hunch when they walk.
I didn't realize how slow the inky was, both male and female, even running, until I played Elder Scrolls Online. I feel like it's a sped-up record compared to the movement in DAI.
I think it actually stems from the fact that compared to ESO animations in DAI likely have more animation frames in the cycle, hence it may appear to be slower. ESO is MMO after all, they have to even more conservative when it comes to how much resources can be spent on animation in a world that is far bigger as well as more unpredictable.
... Well, that, and we can actually SPRINT in ESO. I miss that in DAI, just like I miss DAIs 'sonar' in ESO - I can't help to click V while I'm playing it and wondering why the hell it doesn't do anything
