"He Was There" - Doctor Who soundtrack
"Fear" - Doctor Who soundtrack
"The Last Man" - The Fountain soundtrack
"Nothing Else Matters" - Metallica
"Hungry Like The Wolf" - Snow Hill
"Who Wants to Live Forever" - Queen

And after two weeks in the Alps, I'm back! I was sure they were going to announce a DLC while I was abroad XD So, what about the DLC? What do we know? Did they talk about other DLCs? Anything interesting on Twitter? Will we hear Solas speaking?

It's not a post-game DLC or the last one they're releasing.
It's also totally not the exact same Deep Roads DLC that was rumoured and then supposedly "debunked" a couple months ago... something that coupled with the numerous other times the leaks have been rather accurate, has lead me to suspect that after ME3, our favourite fingerquoting Turian Councillor found a new job covering up them for Bioware.
"Ah yes, "Deep Roads DLC"... an epic dungeon crawl through darkspawn-infested tunnels. We have dismissed that claim."

Spoiler
Atlantis The Lost Empire is one of my, if not my most favorite Disney animated film. There are not many animation that has elements of history in it. Twas' a pity that not many remember the film or even like it.
Btw, Solas wouldn't swim. He would just walk over the water with the aid of magic. Have you seen him walking on the snow. No footsteps left whatsoever.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who really likes Disney's Atlantis
Story aside, the design - with contribution from Mike Mignola himself - is STUNNING... and is pretty much responsible for cementing my love for dark-skinned, white-haired character designs ;D

I adore that movie.
From having Michael J. Fox as Milo, James Garner as Rourke and Leonard Nimoy as the King, to how they created a whole language and alphabet for the Atlanteans to use, the look of the tech and that the city of Altantis felt actually lived in and one that had seen better days. As well as that weird moment you realise that it's a Disney film with absolutely zero songs in it.
Come to think of it... I knew that the concept art of Arlathan as a ruined city surrounded by water looked so naggingly familiar to me?!

She looks stunning.
I always make my Dalish Elves, be it Dalish Hero of Ferelden or Dalish Inquisitors dark skinned with little to no makeup. Au naturel for the win !
I have studied the lifestyles nomadic tribes out of curiosity (I am a historian and anthropology is tangentially related to history) and I have never seen people in nomadic tribes have fair skin or very fair skin. Especially when they spend their time wandering around environment such as tropical forests and jungles.

Someone should ask Patrick Weekes or any of the Bioware devs on Twitter whether the animated film, or even the Atlantis myth, had an effect in shaping the literature about ancient Elvhenan, particularly Arlathan.
Exactly. Me too! This is why my other half was so confused as to why I had clocked 300+ hours on my save file while he had completed the game in a few days. We even had this conversation:
Him: Are you really still playing this game?
Me: I'm a completionist, honey, I gotta do everything!
Him: I did everything! I killed all 10 dragons! I even have the achievement to prove it. Did you kill all the dragons?
Me: Of course I did! I also did every single quest.
Him: ....
Me: ...You do know there's more than 10 dragons now, right?
Him: .....
Thank goodness there is a search option + the 'make it an even better search option' perk. Makes the looting and treasure hunting thing all that much easier.

Yeah, I didn't feel that too much make-up would make her look good - so I tried to keep it to a minimum and only used strong liner/some eyeshadow to make her eyes look very sharp.
(It actually can be explained as habit stemming from its practical application
Ancient Egyptians, among others, used a lot of black eyeliner as proto-sunglasses, because the black rim around their eyes would absorb some of the rays. And considering that bright eyes generally are more sensitive to light - and I know something about that, having grey eyes - I can see her using the eyeliner even in situations where she isn't exposed to too much sunlight. Then the habit would just stick...
)
And yay for history and antropology! If I didn't pick art as my profession, I think I'd either be an anthropologist or ethnographer ![]()
And yes, it's true - sun does leave its mark on human skin if they spend a lot of time outside. It's inevitable. But this is sadly why fair skin is oftentimes considered a mark of status of 'being better than others' - royalty and nobles could afford spending most of their life inside, hence in general their skin was lighter than that of commoners, and especially of peasants working on fields. This is also why some call (European) nobility "blue blooded" - they could be so pale, the veins under their skins would be visible (and appear blueish).

Lol, I've had "this smells of Atlantis, it even has an A in name!" sitting in me ever since my first playthrough ![]()
I am however not surprised by its existence. The Atlantis myth has permeated our culture even before the Bible existed and was referenced by countless fantasy tales. It's a great story.
What's even greater is that there exists actually a very plausible candidate on which the story of Atlantis was built upon - the Crete, under Minoan rule.
AFAIK, it was a highly sophisticated, rich and fairly technologically advanced country of master traders... sadly it was destroyed by explosion of Thera (also known as Minoan eruption), that has sent 100 (edit) meters (!!!) high tsunami and wiped large parts of shore as well as their trading fleet ![]()
Considering how sudden and pretty much senseless the destruction was, I'm not surprised some people thought it must've been punishment form gods. Many Greeks must have felt especially smug and validated, considering that both nations (well, in case of Greece a collection of city-states) competed with one another - although, ironically, Greece later appropriated many elements of Minoan culture into its own.
I am quite frankly jealous of Solas. He can just go to sleep and learn about history ! I would so love to have that ability for real, especially because I like to sleep. In real life, its long hours in the archives and the libraries.
Dreamer Historian. This needs to be real.

It'd be a fun ability to have in real life, if only to go around annoying archaeologists and historians by pointing out what really happened at such-and-so place, or what someone famous really said during that event?
A DLC like this would be fun to play as well, maybe a human or elven character who journeys into the Fade to search for information on elven lore for the Inquisition... although knowing Weekes, he'd have our characters might accidentally ended up seeing the memory of something (or someone) we really shouldn't have, leading to getting trapped in a recurring nightmare that we never wake up from.
"Damnit, I wanted to be felicitated, not Felassan'd!"

I took the liberty in creating my Lavellan to give her some dark red lipcolor. Why? It was similar to one I had bought and was wearing a lot last fall. I have one of the few with prominent makeup, from what I have seen. She looks nothing like me otherwise (though purple eyes in real life would be awesome), but I took that part. Maybe it's ridiculous. Maybe she stopped in some town with the traders and discovered fancy human cosmetics.
As far as spending time in the sun, definitely, so it's one reason I gave her freckles and chose a certain complexion. Though my other Lavellan is actually pretty dark brown. I imagine some variance anyhow, depending on the mixing going on, with a lot of inbreeding but also people coming in and out from other clans. Also, some of us in real life know that not staying out of high/direct sun can cause some nasty burns.
I may be descended from tropical people but I will burn first before I turn brown. Magical sunscreen then, maybe. ![]()
Count me among those who also loved Atlantis. It's so underrated.
He does say it took him years to learn some things, the rift mage spells, for example. He also says it takes critical thinking to extract the grains of truth from any dream or memory in the fade, so it's not like the knowledge is there, ready-made for him. It could be dangerous, traveling to ancient ruins, risking possession by demons, sleeping near giant spiders... All in all, it seems research in the fade can be just as difficult and time consuming as in real life. (Edit: it also involves living like a hobo. Just like in real life. )I am quite frankly jealous of Solas. He can just go to sleep and learn about history ! I would so love to have that ability for real, especially because I like to sleep. Sometimes when I get cranky I imagine him dismissing it, "You call this thesis work? In ancient Arlathan a Ph.D would take at least 100 years!"
I'm not sure what to think of all the AU fics portraying him as a professor, though. I don't think he would do very well as a junior scientist, at least in my field, because he so openly challenges authority and established ideas. And I would *never* have him as an advisor or collaborator. Him saying children don't learn unless you shout at them does not bode well for his advising style.
I just got that line today with Blackwall, about children not learning unless you shout at them, and I think he was being a bit sarcastic and cheeky with Blackwall about his teaching practices. I doubt that he actually thinks this is a valid teaching style himself. ^.^

He sounded liek he meant it to me. He also gives approval if you say "Children are stupid." to the woman in the Dalish camp whose brother died from dabbling with blood magic. Also the way he can be with peope he strongly disagrees with: the sarcastic jokes, the audible sighs, the open derision... The guy does not suffer fools very well.
