• Now that I've finished it, Valta and the Titan absolutely smack of Legacy-style DLC to me, setting up DA4's plotline.  Which...I don't like.  The essential, core elements of the main plotline shouldn't have their origins in DLC.

Isn't it kind of DA tradition at this point? And while I think Valta/Titans might be important, I'm not sure if it's setting essential stuff for DA4 - I have my doubts it will be dwarf-related, I think however we should be prepared to learn more ancient mysteries of Thedas and how dwarves and Titans fit into this.

I wonder if the events in DA4 will have to do with Solas vs. Valta. She has some similarities to him, being obsessed with the ancient history of her people, having a strong sense for the Stone, just like he has a strong sense for the Fade, and now that she's tied to the titan, she has obtained some dwarven superpowers. 

 

Also, if you look at her tarot card (which was on the wiki last night, but I can't find it anymore, there's a circle with dots around her head, similar but less elaborate than the 5 circles you see on Solas' first tarot card.

Thedas can handle only one such person as it is. Literally.

 

But I think it will be more interesting if something in her personality is the polar opposite of Solas. Maybe in DA4 they can have an epic battle to decide the fade of tea in Thedas.

Valta is not Fen'Harel.  Fen'Harel was a cocky hot headed Elf in his younger days and Valta is anything but cocky and hot headed.

 

Valta is also more tolerant of the ridiculous parts of her people's culture such as the treatment of the Casteless and the "I can't look at the skies" and Fen'Harel is not.

 

Having said that, both have a passion for ancient histories and both have strong sense of the Fade / the Stone.

 

I believe Valta with her powers will be some form of Geomancer or Earthbender. I guess if you give her some Earthbender robes, she can pass off as Toph with eyesight. Which is funny because if you give Fen'Harel some blue tattoos he would look like Aang.

 

Valta is the reverse of Fen'Harel ?

 

I also think that drinking pure Lyrium turns Dwarves into Reaper-style Husks. Which is probably why the Ancient Elves thought killing Titans was a good thing. Then, there's the Lyrium. I believe that the ancient Dwarves struck away the existence of Titans from the Shaperate because Orzammar's economy relied on Lyrium mining. It wouldn't do them any good to lose that.

He possibly would also think that sometimes people don't need to know the whole truth about certain things... at least. Not yet.

 

Someone in another thread elsewhere has suggested that Fade!Justinia is actually Solas's spirit friend Wisdom. I'm not entirely sure how that conclusion was drawn, but it's one of the more, er, interesting theories I've seen in awhile.

To be entirely fair to Valta and her culture, they might have a point.  I am not in any way excusing their treatment of the casteless, or their disdain for surface dwarves.  But if they have the potential to talk to Titans, their "stone-sense" is a real thing.  And it probably depends on them living underground and being exposed to low levels of uncorrupted lyrium.  Go to the surface, or get dumped into the crap parts of the city that are completely depleted (I suspect Dust-town is one such place), and you lose your stone-sense.  It might even be a two-way connection; the dwarves believe they go back to the Stone when they die, so maybe that has some root in their ability to talk to Titans.  Like a lot of other things, the customs have lost their meaning over time.

Cole probably doesn't understand the difference between things that are alive and things that aren't--not like we do.  He is a spirit, after all, and in the Fade everything could be a living spirit.  Even daggers.

You know, reading what you've written, I think having a final, post-game DLC on Solas could provide some closure.

Your quizzy can track him down, find out who he is, shout at him, maybe have an optional romance scene, and then be faced with a choice: work together - and thus disappear with him into the fade together whilst leaving everything behind, or refuse.

 

I imagine if your Inquisitor refuses, Solas will likely kill them. Like a reverse murder-knife.

 

Extreme, I know, I just can't see the Inquisition approving of Solas' plans - which could possibly be quite radical, and might alter the shape of the world together (say, by removing the veil). Even if the Inquisitor doesn't mind, I can't see a group of fervent andrastians going along with some wacky elven deity's plan. Solas can't risk having the Inquisition tracking him down for serious. So the solution is simple: kill the Inquisitor, leave the group in disarray, watch it splinter and break apart without their purpose from before (seal the breach and track down cory), or the person who led them afterwards. Solas is safe to continue his work, as for the very few people who knew him under than name, tracking him down is the least of their problems.

 

It'd be a hell of a twist. I just hope the 'hunting' part of Wolf Hunt is more involved and difficult than Witch Hunt.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like the idea of if you refuse him, he becomes like a boss you have to fight, but I feel like out of curtsey he would give you some time lol. And even though all your other peoples are basically Andrastian, I can honestly see them still following you. Like, they followed you when you let all the mages be free and that shitted a lot of them off. They follow you, despite being Dalish and never actually saying you believe in Andraste or the Maker. I feel like, sure, you'd have to convince them to go along with helping the Elves, but I think most of them probably would end up going along with it, especially if they had guilt over how the Elven have/are treated lol *coughDoriancough*. Plus, Solas himself has stated that the Old Gods aren't actually Gods, he said they are spirits or something else (he uses less definite wording, but given who he is he probably knows what's up). Perhaps the quest with the Old Gods would help the others figure out if the Maker really is behind all things, he could have created the Old Gods who knows. I just like the idea of recruiting Solas again and then helping him (and sure, you would earn disapproval probably from your other companions) because it would be a seriously epic quest to go on, and either way it lets the Old Gods out and then the next game they make could easily build on that, and it would make it far easier to make a new character then as well. Like, after the last game the Inquisitor could potentially chose to stay with Solas (especially if you romanced him), or if you didn't help him perhaps you died or if you helped him and didn't romance him you were basically disgraced for letting it happen and lost all your power and influence and now no one knows where you are. I just really feel like they need to wrap up the story with Solas before making a new game, especially if you are no longer the Inquisitor.

I also thought I would mention that I ended up loading from before I fought Corphespit so I could have Solas back and now I do and we are totally going to do all the DLC together lol. I actually 80% feel better having him back in my party...Even if he is a jerk who still broke up with me.

I went in at lvl 27 .. both times I played through.  Dang, the money you get is real.  I think I walked out with about 600k gold ... yes six hundred thousand.  Which is about 6 times as much as I got playing the entire base game.

 

 

Yeah, I walked in with about 24,000 Gold and left with around 600k as well. I have no need for this kind of money at the end of the game  unless they bring out a DLC that requires expensive building work or something down the line. 

 

 

I love sweet cinnamon roll, I do.  And I would never respec him into bows just for mechanics; stabbing is his thing!  But he's not allowed on the team anymore without guard-on-hit daggers 

 

I had both his daggers with +5 guard on hit and armour that added a whole lot of extra health. He was doing great until we got to the boss, and then it all went wrong.  Poor Cole   and I can't give him a bow either, it's just...wrong.

The spoiler tag only hides the text/picture. When you load the page, it loads all pictures and texts regardless of whether or not it is in a spoiler tag. I know this because I once posted a ridiculously large gif under spoiler tags and it broke that particular page even if you didn't open the spoiler. Never seen the Solas thread freak out that fast. So, we finally got a dlc. A dlc I'm happy about.....and I have had the pleasure of being in contact with EA since Wednesday because Descent causes my game to crash and they can't seem to figure out why. I'm officially blaming Solas.....since he is the general cause of heartache for me in the game. It seems my heart wasn't enough to break though. Now he's going as far as to actually break my game. He is starting to cross some lines. >_>

 

I hope everyone is still being fully haunted by Solas and waving optimism flags.

From codex we find when we discover the Wellspring it appears that they might be descendants of thaig mentioned in a fable - the one the king of whom accidentally discovered the Titan and dug so much to reach it again, that the entire thaig fell through.

 

And Valta describes them as 'monsters', twisted by drinking lyrium and not really understanding what Titan is - they were not, in fact, pure (whatever it means), as apparently Valta is (.... why do I have a feeling that she's basically dwarven equivalent of Solas, only at the beginning of her journey!?).

 

It seems that Sha-Brytol simply fancy themselves as Titan's protectors, and guard it jealously, probably because drinking its blood (pure lyrium I guess) gives them strength and power. In other words, they're pretty much like parasites, even if they view themselves as more than that.

That's basically how I viewed them. It definitely seemed different from the Sentinals. The Sentinals didn't have power because they used Mythal's power. That power came from themselves. They protected Mythal's power (Well of Sorrows) and I think where even aware of what they were guarding and also knew who and possibly what Mythal was. The Sha-Brytol seem, as you say, to have just stumbled on this power and guard it for their own selfish needs, but believe they are righteous in doing so. I wonder if they even really know what/who this Titan is.

For those who plan on playing pre-end game and want to take Solas with:

The Sha-Brytol are very Branka-esque.

 

Both the Sha-Brytol and Branka serve as a cautionary tale of what happens when a dwarf (or anyone) lets their obsession with something lost and forgotten (Anvil/Titan), ultimately pervert whatever noble intentions they might have one had, until they become little more than paranoid monsters, jealously hoarding their secrets.

 

If she's alive and the Anvil was kept, I think we've seen a glimpse into what her future might be... and it's not pretty, huh?
