For those who plan on playing pre-end game and want to take Solas with:

Put Solas in the very first combat slot. When you first set up camp, that companion smiles at the Inq and it's rather sweet when it is Solas. It is very quick, but allows for a bit more head canon.

Having watched a couple LPs of Descent on youtube, I have to take my hat off to GeekRemix for their extremely fun take on it;

 

That now Lavellan is the the clueless outsider asking extremely dumb, ignorant and/or culturally insensitive questions to those of another race and culture, while the other culture in question attempts to give the layman's explanation, while internally rolling their eyes...

 

In other words, the frustration that most people in Thedas feel when dealing with the Dalish's aloof, know-it-all and superior attitude!

Valta is not Fen'Harel.  Fen'Harel was a cocky hot headed Elf in his younger days and Valta is anything but cocky and hot headed.

 

Valta is also more tolerant of the ridiculous parts of her people's culture such as the treatment of the Casteless and the "I can't look at the skies" and Fen'Harel is not.

 

Having said that, both have a passion for ancient histories and both have strong sense of the Fade / the Stone.

 

I believe Valta with her powers will be some form of Geomancer or Earthbender. I guess if you give her some Earthbender robes, she can pass off as Toph with eyesight. Which is funny because if you give Fen'Harel some blue tattoos he would look like Aang.

 

Valta is the reverse of Fen'Harel ?

Yeah, I walked in with about 24,000 Gold and left with around 600k as well. I have no need for this kind of money at the end of the game  unless they bring out a DLC that requires expensive building work or something down the line.

Ya know....this could be something! This is the first area to really make serious coin, and it only became available now...nearly 9 months after the games release. *gets a tad giddy*

Shouldn't get my hopes up, but if we are given more reason to finally spend both coin, power (and I should toss in all the extra logging stands/quarries I have a surplus of) - in the next/last DLC - that would give my hoarder and crafter obsession something to chew on.

People who took Solas say he seemed eager to explore the Deep Roads. From his banter with Varric he seems interested in the dwarves and favors them returning to the old ways. He's also interested in the Blight which has at least affected some Titans, if it's not related to them in a more significant way. Also, someone in a different thread pointed out that if the Titan's sleep/stasis was stirred by the Breach, Titans might ultimately have some connection to the Fade, and the veil is keeping them still. So there might be some relationship between the Fade/Stone/Blight, and they might be related to Solas' mission, therefore Solas and Valta could cross paths in the future.

 

If he was in the Deep Roads, he must realize that with all the knowledge Valta will gain, she will become a major player eventually. I wonder if he would seek her out deliberately after leaving Skyhold and absorbing Flemythal. The problem is, how will he learn about her if you do the Deep Roads post main game? I don't think he can see her in the Fade (even if pure lyrium gives her an ability to dream, she says she doesn't sleep anymore).

The Sha-Brytol are very Branka-esque.

 

Both the Sha-Brytol and Branka serve as a cautionary tale of what happens when a dwarf (or anyone) lets their obsession with something lost and forgotten (Anvil/Titan), ultimately pervert whatever noble intentions they might have one had, until they become little more than paranoid monsters, jealously hoarding their secrets.

 

If she's alive and the Anvil was kept, I think we've seen a glimpse into what her future might be... and it's not pretty, huh?

I think it's telling that the Titan only calms its jams after Valka turns up.  The Sha-Brytol have been "protecting" it for Maker knows how long, but it didn't care.  It still woke up without its morning coffee and threw a tantrum until an actual Child of the Stone turned up.  Which implies that for whatever reason, the Sha-Brytol no longer "count" as Children of the Stone.  No more than Varric or Cadash, two surfacer dwarves.

 

Renn and Valka talk about how all Shapers have great stone-sense, and Valka never loses her way in the Deep Roads.  The more I think about it, the more I suspect that lyrium exposure is like a curve.  Low to moderate amounts of indirect exposure enhance stone-sense, while direct use and overuse produces lyrium addling and eventually something like the Sha-Brytol.  Slaves to the Titan's will who can't properly communicate with it, more like worker drones.

There was talk of them revealing something at PAX over in the twitter thread but I'd be surprised if it was more SP DLC already. 

I have all the power and nothing to spend it on either. Something ridiculous like 300 points of it. I think all that's left on my War Table are resource gathering quests which I have no need for. 

It does seem weird that all the money is so easy to get in this DLC. Although I do wonder if that's down to the fact it was made by a different team, and they are just more generous  "Everyone should come back filthy rich from the Deep Roads! Just like Hawke did!"

 

I guess time will tell.

It's extremely hard to say at this point.

 

I do however think that we may either see Valta or someone like her (maybe in DA4 or 5 we may get a mysterious cloaked figure who will say something akin to "I was a common dwarf once, but the Titan changed me and sent me on a mission").

 

I also would'n't be entirely surprised if their goals may be intertwined, but both of them would have to accomplish something at the same time, but in different parts of the wold. Like they're cogs in different parts of the machine, making it run again.

Yes, I actually took Solas (decided to roll my pre-Arbor save) and while - like all followers - most his comments are short, he definitely doesn't oppose going down. He even says at one point (before riding down to 5th level) that it's "a mystery worth investigating" and kinda gives a vibe of encouraging to go down and discover all these things.

I even had a laugh once, because (after Sha-Brytol explode one of the bridges) he says "Someone wishes not to be disturbed... There must be another way." Like... wow, Solas, you're very eager to disturb that frikking ancient thing that has immense power! xD

 

And in the ending cutscene, he just stands there, looking SMUG - or at least somewhat pleased   (though the crossed arms seem to imply "I know something, but nope! I won't share it!")

 

 

 

And yes, the fact that the Titan has been disturbed by effects of the Breach - and that apparently something happened 1000 years ago that made it stir as well (magisters invading the Golden City?) suggests that there exists a link to he Fade.

 

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I start to think that Titans are mages, but times 1000000 in terms of willfulness or power to re-shape reality. I mean, this is what mages do, only on smaller scale, as we hear it described in banter and dialogue in DAI. Cole at one point even calls Vivienne - and, by extension, every mage - as 'a Maker' to small spirits and wisps surrounding her, that she draws from Fade to create spells that directly affect and re-shape small portions of reality. 

 

Solas even has a comment (when he talk with Varric about dwarven stuff) and calls lyrium 'the source of all magic, save that which mages bring themselves". And since we now know that lyrium is Titan's blood (life-force, I assume) it appears that there's a tenative connection between both.

Of that we cannot be sure. Solas obviously knows (even if we don't know how much) what happened to dwarves - he either witnessed it in flesh OR learned about it in the Fade. And if the Titan itself has some connection to the Fade, what happened to Valta might become obvious to him, once she's affected by the Titan. Her not dreaming I also don't find the issue with, considering that we don't really know how she was changed, or what is hers or Titan's relation to the Fade. She may have some connection to the Fade without the need of sleep or dreaming. Mages, after all, have strong connection to the Fade when they're not sleeping as well - they channel it, create spells and re-shape reality in their ow small way while fully awake.

Otherwise she could potentially have the Anchor, the Well of Sorrows, AND the weird Titan connection thing.  And be a mage.  And have slept with the Dread Wolf.  At a certain point, that's a bit much 

 

I get the impression that the Titan, while definitely sentient, isn't a "person" in the same sense as mortals.  It's not a concept either, like a spirit.  If anything, it seems to be a more distributed intelligence that pervades the Stone in which it "lives" and shapes.  It probably doesn't think the same way we do; maybe that's why it started establishing connections with the dwarves in the first place, so it could communicate.  Sort of like Shiala and the Thorian all the way back in ME1.
