^ sinner leading army is a cool interp. ![]()
when I first saw it I took it for a hunt of Mythal depicted as a dragon - the murder of Mythal really.
On the thread discussion: I tend to wander through most of them. I just mostly post in my comfort zone.
The Cullen thread is indeed absurdly well-managed. I remember them sweetly knocking the wind out of some trolls before release.
I wasn't actually all that enthused about Cullen being in Inquisition, before one of them sort of laid out her thoughts on why he was an interesting character, and I got the enthusiasm.
(I still need to make a Cullen romance playthrough, actually.) I resent the Dorian thread for staying absurdly on topic.
(Also, their Dorians tend to be better dressed than, well, any of my characters.
)
Fern: Nice spotting.
For some reason I hadn't noticed that the dragons were blighted. So that rules out Mythal (we can probably assume). Could be other blighted gods, or it could be the Forgotten Ones (I imagine the Sinner was probably one of their number). Geldauran, Anaris, and Daern'thal are the ones we have the names of. The creatures are probably some of Ghilly's creations.
I forget, does the Temple show what they're charging against? Is it an elf civil war, a fight against the dwarves, or a fight against something else?

That too. The dragon is outlined with white, whereas the armored figure and the halla army are outlined in red. Hmm.. Black, red and white are the constant here.

I reckon the armored figure to be Andruil. The Codex entries mention her wearing armor made of the Void while also suggesting that red lyrium has to do with the Void. I certainly don't recognize her face in that get-up. ![]()
Oddly reminiscent of Templar armor, actually. ![]()

I can't remember unfortunately and I can't get back there on my 2 play-throughs ><. I'm sure I would've noted what they were aiming at though if it was note-worthy. I think it was a standalone picture, with a door on the other side.
I guess I'm going to have to post nsfw links in spoilers rather than the images from now on. The moderating seems random on these forums. And the 'sexual content' under the rules needs to be defined.

Yeah that's what I thought when I first saw it, before I knew about the Sinner (regarding Templars). I've heard the Andruil/Sinner idea, I can be on board with that! The creatures huddling at the bottom of the figure might match up with the codex entry:
She shook the radiance of the stars, divided them into grains of light, then stored them in a shaft of gold. Andruil, blood and force, save us from the time this weapon is thrown. Your people pray to You. Spare us the moment we become Your sacrifice.
But the Sinner did belong to Dirthamen.. I'm curious as to what those red markings are on the dragon's face, a vallaslin? Here's Dirthamen's:
And the dragon:
I can't tell from that
.

All these lines about Andruil forging the shaft of gold sure make the story about Fen'harel luring the Forgotten Ones to the Abyss and the Creators to the Fade in hopes of finding a superweapon to end the war sure seem important. ![]()
So for awhile I've been going off the assumption that when Abelas says, "We elvhen warred upon ourselves," that he's talking about the Creators mud-slinging matches, like we hear Solas talking about with Falon'din. With the revelation that Geldauran and company were likely just the outsiders in Arlathan society that wanted power, the big, cataclysmic war being between them and the Creators seems more likely.
Imshael does mention 'the bits out west' when it comes to elven territory. Possibly where they retreated to build up their strength? Or was it underground, in the Abyss/Void, and they somehow found red lyrium/the Blight to use as a desperate measure? And they are those Tirashan elves who seem to worship the Forgotten Ones and call out their names, all with red vallaslin.
Worth noting that their symbol on the wiki is a leaf and bow, black, on a white circle on a bright red background. ![]()
Well here's something from me for today.. You know those paintings in the Crestwood cave that, I assume, relate to the Sinner (http://dragonage.wik...t_Elven_Writing)?
Spoiler
Well, in the Temple of Mythal I saw this:
Spoiler
I'd never seen those depicted together like that. Previously I'd read claims that the dragon was Mythal, but it looks dark and blighted like the armored picture. This makes me think the dragon is the Sinner, leading a similarly stylized army. The codex does say, "whose form may be one or many."
Just a little thing I noticed
.
Oh!! What interests me is that there's more than one dragon there. Before I thought it was symbolic of a single entity, but there's not just one o.o
The codex states that the sinner is a "he". That rules out Andruil. I can't think that it's Fen'Harel either because if Mythal "does not show him favor", she wouldn't refer to him as "old friend" in the ending cutscene. Therefore I suspect it is Falon'Din because "The sinner belongs to Dirthamen". Solas mentions that Falon'Din started wars to get more worshippers and it looks like the dragons in the mural are leading an army. But who is the second dragon?
Now the templar looking figure, however, could be Andruil with the armor of the Void.

What Abelas has to say is interesting and I think it ties in with the Sinner, maybe. When at the well he claims Mythal was betrayed by those "who destroyed this temple", and his codex says "We must prepare for those who cast Mythal down".
Does that mean they're still out there? And how did they destroy the temple? Was Mythal actually living there and when they destroyed the temple that's when they killed her?
Where can I read about the Tirashan elves? If their mounts are anything to go by all I know is this: Unnervingly intelligent; willing to "correct" its rider. It will not suffer fools.
.
I'd like to know more about the forgotten ones, and how they relate to Fen'harel. Geldauran and Solas seem to share the sentiment of godhood not existing as we know it according to Geldauran's claim (http://dragonage.wik...ldauran's_Claim).

I'm not sure where to find the exact messages, but the Serault text adventure on the Dragon Age Keep is where they show up. ![]()

Hmm, I think that what happened was that Ghilan'nain used one of Dirthamen's slaves (the Sinner took wings at Ghil's "urging" & he "belonged" to Dirthamen, ie was a slave) without securing permission from Dirth (or, muahahah, she did have permission and the two of them were using the slave to prove some sort of point to the other gods), giving the slave the secret to the dragon transformation for her own reasons. What if the anti-slavery faction was trying to prove that slaves were not lesser than the gods or something, and this guy was a willing sacrifice for the cause?

Yeah that seemingly works. "he claims he took wings at the urging of Ghilan'nain" ties in with a codex about Falon'din (http://dragonage.wik...ng_to_Falon'Din):
"Whose wings of death surround him
Thick as night".
It also says he "mastered the dark that lies". What's 'the dark'?
On a random note, Dirthamen and Falon'din's mosaics are the only ones with black eyes:
I sanded my wolf jaw last night because it finally seemed dry. I think it's going pretty good so far lol. If it turns out okay, I am considering trying to use it to make a mold and then I can make others.

Okay those pics are huge, sorry O.O.
Falon'Din was already a god, possibly Mythal's son, too, and had permission to take the form of a dragon if he so chose - so it would not make sense for him to be the Sinner. Whoever this person was, I'm thinking their trial set off a chain of events that resulted in Mythal's death.
"The dark that lies" probably means death, as he was the one who could lead people into the Beyond (the Fade) he had mastered it and knew its secrets.
Imshael does mention 'the bits out west' when it comes to elven territory.
whoa! Where's this? In game, or in Masked Empire?

Mm, how do we know he had permission? Though he could turn into an owl, perhaps that is what the codex is talking about regarding his wings.
I like your idea about the Sinner slaves vs gods. If we've learnt anything about the lore it's that "evil" is a matter of perspective (a la Fen'harel).

Interesting! I always thought the profile looked vaguely like a revenant's helm:
But the potential for red lyrium Andruil is definitely there. On a kind of unrelated subject, the central pattern reminded me of the Templar crest, but a quick google search for the pattern turned up two versions: one sword up, one sword down.
Anyone know which is canon? Are they both, somehow?

Good point.
Now I know people have different interpretations about this painting but the first time I saw it, I immediately thought the antlered figure was Ghilan'nain. The bear could be either Dirthamen or a slave of his and it seems as though she is embracing the bear and/or soothing him. Could this be Ghilan'nain urging him to take a form?

Ah good catch! I didn't notice that before.
The only other thing I realized was that Mythal's mosaic has her holding five flowers. I assume it represents her five children?

Taking wings with a form "reserved for the gods and their chosen" (Ghilan'nain was Andruil's chosen before she became a goddess). Falon'Din was a god, so the form would be reserved for people like him.

This is also something I've wanted to post about, have a closer look at those flowers
.
They've got EYES. So yeah I think they're her babies, displayed as flowers? With the sun behind her (Elgar'nan? If so, that leads me to wonder whether Elgar'nan was even a person or just something synonymous with the sun. Because flowers need sun to grow right?
).
And if you look at the faces of the flowers, the only other mosaic that resembles the pattern is June (sort of):
whoa! Where's this? In game, or in Masked Empire?
The Masked Empire, an exchange between Imshael and Felassan, I think.
The Templar sign varies. Most of them have the sword pointing down. The downward sword version probably is a symbolic descendant of the old Judex constellation, with the downward angle meaning judgement and death.
