Thank you!  It's slowly going away. :)

If only elfroot truly existed. I dealt with migraines a couple times a month for many years. :/ I hope your relief comes faster.

We're beginning to get some version of quark in mainstream American markets, but I haven't tried any. I first heard of quark via an ex, who was from Eastern Europe, and it made delicious cheesecake. I bought that white cheese I mentioned. Sometimes we traditionally eat it with guava paste for this tangy-sweet and salty cheese combination. Guava and cheese pastry is also popular. I find all of this fascinating in real life, and so even in the game lore, I love things like the inclusion of food bits in the writing we see, or recipes in WoT2, or the descriptions of food at the party at Skyhold, or yes, the little frilly cakes. :)

Now I may actually try to write some fluffy short about sweets.

You people should try REAL donuts, not that fraudulent things with hole in the middle :P

paczki_3.jpg paczek2.jpg

(I kid of course - though what we understand as "donuts" differs slightly in what many people in the West understand it. Our traditional donuts are full and usually filled with marmalade or rose petal jam <- yes it's a thing here)

Hm.

Does Krakow have reasonable prices for tourists?

:P

I live in the US now. Thanks, I think Slavic languages are beautiful in general. The alphabet's pretty efficient too :)

EDIT: Does Eastern Europe loosely correspond to any place in Thedas?

Eh, sorta maybe kinda not really? :(

The Anderfels remind me a tiny bit of parts of Eastern Europe, with the Grey Wardens taking the place of the Teutonic Order. If, y'know, Prussia and Lithuania and Poland were flat, blighted, hot wasteland.  Then Nevarra has elements of Austria and Ancient Egypt, and I think that's about as far east as Thedas goes, culturally.

And since I've heard that, depending on your interpretation of Europe, Poland is dead center...

No Bulgaria. :( Which is too bad, because any of my Inquisitors would happily wear medieval Bulgarian armor instead of whatever they have now.

I suppose it depends where people are coming from, but compared to other places in Europe it's still relatively cheap - I should know, I spent many years in Krakow studying art, and I don't live that far away from it to not visit a few friends I've made at that time in that city from time to time  :)

And it's cheap not just because it's one of the most popular tourist places in all Poland, but also because it's full of students of any kinds, and students are hardly ever rich. Of course, the closer to more popular places (Market Square, and more recently Kazimierz), the more expensive it gets, especially when it comes to pubs/clubs, but compared to many other cities, especially in western parts of Europe it's still pretty cheap.

Does Eastern Europe loosely correspond to any place in Thedas?

Not from what I've seen, no. The Exalted Plains remind me a bit of Ojcowski National Park (which also lies near Krakow) with its distinct gray rock formations

Spoiler

And the Deep Roads... well the Deep Roads can't NOT remind me a tiny bit of Wieliczka salt mine (ALSO near Krakow :D), which is one of the oldest salt mines in the world. It's known for many underground corridors, as well as intricate chambers scultpted pretty much entirely from salt by miners throughout centuries (even the chandeliers in picture below are made out of salt crystals):

Spoiler

... though that's mostly because both things are deep underground :D

Anyway - when it comes to fantasy RPG with strong Eastern European vibe, there's none else that does it so well than Witcher 3. The game might as well be called: Witcher 3: POLISH COUNTRYSIDE , with how closely it resembles it in terms of looks or feel (well, of course minus all the magical creatures, Witchers and general slaughter... xD)

Last night I made the dragon heads for Tyrdda's Staff (whether or not that is staff Solas has during the travel to Skyhold scene idk, but it is my fav staff in game). I still need stuff to make the staff and finish the jaw bone so I guess I should probably sew or something...

Heh, it's probably too much to hope they'd put Bulgaria in the game. Though it'd be nice to have a rakia with Bull.

... Not unless a herd of wild pigs or roe deers (or occasional dog or wolf pack) cosplay as wyverns :D

Speaking of wolves - in English there's a phrase "speak of the devil" when someone mentioned unexpectedly appears - locally we say something similar saying, but with one crucial difference,

We say "speak of the wolf".

I am so not kidding :D

Also, if you're going to sit on something cold for too long you may "catch a wolf" (fall ill).

Aaaaa, "Nu, pogodi!"!! I remember this cartoon so well - it was russian equivalent of Tom And Jerry and similar shows *is overflown with nostalgia*

Of  course, in context of DA (wolf - Fen'Harel, hare - Andruil), watching this cartoon now is doubly hilarious.

I have to admit, I was kinda wondering - if he dislikes caffeine because it makes a person more awake, hence crossing to the Fade difficult, then maybe something that has opposite effects (like opiates) is what fadewalkers would enjoy? :D

This might have been answered somewhere at some point but does anyone here know if it's possible to max disapproval with Solas, then work it back up to high enough to get the Fade kiss and romance him? I tried it on 1 Inquisitor recently & I was sure that I got the flirts in at Haven before pissing Solas off, but for some reason balcony keeps not triggering! <_< Has anyone done it??

(P.S. I have no idea what is even happening in this thread, ahhaha. I stop lurking for a while and come back to giant donuts. Typical Solas fan thread :P )

Have to admit, I had to look up who Tarquinius Superbus was!

(And it's my second language too, don't worry about it :P).

Languages in general fascinate me, I really enjoy Elvhen . Especially when spoken by Solas and Abelas.

Okay. Trying to get back in the groove of sharing some art...

Adorable pixel art of the Solavellan break up scene.

Beautiful Solavellan underwater kiss for the kiss meme.

Solavellan forehead kiss in the rain for the kiss meme.

What if Lavellan at one point had actually met Solas when she was a child?

Oh, man, I'm totally obsessed with Elvhen. I've been trying to actually learn some (at least the Project Elvhen version of it).

Today I was walking towards a conference room for a meeting when a colleague actually heard me speaking to myself in Elvhen. I was trying different phrases on my tongue. I guess he probably assumed I was actually talking to myself in Bulgarian, but still, I bet I sounded kinda crazy.

 Bulgaria

*tastes air, slinks out of cave*

Every time I take a break from learning Bulgarian, there is some sort of Sign From the Universe that is like, "No, no, I will randomly insert Bulgarian Encounters into your life like you were overland map traveling in an RPG."

That is all.
