I really like the first outfit. He looks so substantial and imposing, like you know he means business. You just don't know what that business is.

I gotta say, in the picture on the right he once again looks very similar to that first close up screen shot of him (which was my favourite, by the way). So it appears that maybe his appearance hasn't really been tweaked all that much from earlier, and his differing appearances can simply be chalked up to different lighting, angles, and facial expressions. It also doesn't help that we've hardly had any other shots of him front-on.

Sounds like he was just making an observation and accidentally offended someone by using a general term. If what manabloom posted was all that was said, it just sounds like a miscommunication. To me, it seems obvious Solas meant 'Fereldens' as a term describing people living in a geographical area not as formal citizens of the country known as Ferelden (how Sky Watcher perceived it).

 

I like that Solas didn't continue to antagonize the already agitated Avvar dude. If Solas was more hot-headed, he could've responded with, "Don't call me elf, Fereldan!" but instead he held his tongue. He likely was ignorant of how what he said was offensive but he didn't go to lengths to explain himself to try to pacify the guy either. He probably thought "I wonder what his problem is," and shrugged. Solas has good boundaries.

I agree. Doubly so on the lighting. For example, the way it's used in the menu allows for shadows that better emphasize the shapes on his face and head. Roxy's avatar clearly shows this triangle-ish shape to his forehead that you can only partly discern from the full frontal screenshot you posted.

I liked that too. If anything, I figure he'd consider the reaction interesting and make a note to do some "research" on it later. Then he talks the Inquisitor's ear off about what he experienced.

Yeah, there really hasn't been much "official" information about him. But snippets here and there add up to what is, in my opinion, shaping up to be one of the most interesting and unique companions Dragon Age has given us. If you really are curious, check the OP! Solas (as in the forumite and creator of this thread, not THE Solas, haha) has done a fantastic job keeping it updated with any and all information we've managed to glean from the devs/voice actor/etc.

Mmmm... Maynard. Nice find with that pic, by the way. The resemblance there is uncanny.

Also, I've finally caught up on all the forum madness surrounding today's demo. So much Solas makes me happy. The more I see him, and the more little tidbits we get about his personality, the more I love him... Especially his face. I think I take back whatever I might have said about him being not conventionally attractive... His character design has really grown on me and I think he's absolutely gorgeous. And so many other things! The combat, and the visuals, and the ability to find things to have our experts study, and the absolutely beautiful art direction... The wait for this game will pain me.

But ilikesocks posted some screens to twitter of "cards" related to the characters in game and the tarot from the Inquisitor's edition

Looking at it, I noted that Solas card has all the hallmarks of the Hierophant and he matches well to the meaning of the card as a Spiritual Teacher/Master/Guide.

 

(Cole the card just to the left also strikes me as fitting the Major Arcana card, The Moon, very well.)

Solas's card looks more like The Hermit (covering cloak, flame/lamp, staff) to me.  On page 442, Nika and manabloom both have good assessments of the card meaning in relation to Solas too.

If Dorian's final version is like the one you can see in the picture of the Inquisitor's Edition of the game, he's pretty much a lock for the Hierophant (and he works better in that role than Solas).
