Eh, nah. As long as they do the story justice I'll sob it out and get on with life, that much richer for having experienced a moving tale.
Still hoping for happier options though. Or at least a really nice true goodbye. Something.

This will result in a gathering of angry, heartbroken elf women armed with various sharp and blunt instruments on Bioware's office at Edmonton...
Someone needs to draw that.
I think I can probably deal with killing him in a cutscene. It will hurt but I'll deal with it. (I'm only half-sarcastic here...)
But an actual battle? How am I supposed to press those buttons?
They need to post *something* to keep people hyped and so a mysterious post may as well be it.
Of course there's bigger threats than cory. Otherwise, there would be no DA4 ![]()
An uncomfortable topic. (Comic about the Solavellan break up.)
Spoiler
I love this and it is heartbreaking...But can someone tell me who the other elf the Inquisitor is speaking to is? Is it like, just a random character the artist created?
While it probably won't happen, I'd like to see Team Hawke meet Team Inquisition. Mostly for Solas' reaction to Merrill, she understands the nature of spirits, shares similar beliefs with the whole "magic is magic" thing, and isn't like most of the other Dalish at all.
Granted, a hypothetical Merrill/Solas relationship would end with him being hunted down by Isabela and her armada, Varric's Carta buddies, Hawke, and a rather angry Carver.
I'd pay to see that. In terms of personalities, they're near opposites - Merrill is innocent, nervous, awkward, doesn't understand the rules of society, and quirky-in-an-adorable-way, whereas Solas is experienced, cool and confident, comfortable in a number of different social settings (e.g. winter palace), and quirky-in-a-really-weird-way. Also, I think he'd most likely pity her - given the amount of work she's put into restoring that eluvian, that one little scrap of history that doesn't even touch the tip of the iceberg, and also given the dalish lore and beliefs she'd still clings to - all the times she curses by the Dread Wolf etc.
I can still sort of see it working, despite all those limits.
Merrill doesn't deserve that though, not after all she went through in DA2 - potentially murdering entire clan if Hawke doesn't apologise IMMEDIATELY for events they don't even bother to investigate. After that, falling in love with the Dread Wolf would simply be cruel.
When you are missing one gear in an area and there's a locked door but also a way forward.
Do you:
Go forward?
Go frantically mash V everywhere searching for that damn gear?
I'm sure you can tell which I am doing right now.

The answer is probably to fall down a lot. Except in some areas, in which you will need to complete operations... after you spend way too much time trying to climb things that no god nor mortal could ever climb. Shut up I didn't do that go away.
I did eventually find that last gear. Fight was fun behind the door but loot wasn't worth it. Still, the completionist in me was satisfied.
I then went further down.
And quit after that for the night.
I will finish this eventually. ![]()

I think she's meant to be like a twin sister.

OMG! I just realized I forgot to add the link to the original source!
Will fix the art post! (The source is here btw: http://hyperionwitch...el-mithanna-is)
Anyway, from the tumblr, the artist mentioned that the other elf (the one who is not in a romance with Solas) belongs to another Tumblr user. I'm guessing the heartbroken Lavellan belongs to the artist.
Art break.
Solavellan for the kiss meme: Neck kiss.
Another Solavellan for the kiss meme: I miss you kiss.
Lavellan reacts to Fade snogging. ![]()
Solas and Lavellan reading on the couch.
Hahren.
Solas sketches.
He knows. (Cole and Solas. xD)
In other news, I bought myself some donuts. It's just Dunkin' Donuts donuts but they'll have to do. XD (Thanks Doughnut Rebel!)
EDIT: Forgot to add this!

Thanks! I was wondering if it was a specific character I had was unaware of or something. I wish there had been more elves around in the Inquisition tbh. Or like, a friend from your clan comes to join lol.
Annnnnd I still haven't played through Descent yet. Lol. Makes for a tricky business, being on these boards and closing my eyes and hitting the scroll button whenever I see mention of Titans. ^.^ I'm definitely going to spend all of Sunday leveling up so I can finally get onto that. When this happens, be prepared for my mind dump post. I've speculated a lot previously about the whole lyrium/blood/dwarves/fade link, and I get the feeling I may have hit pretty close prior to the DLC coming out. So now I'm all hyped.

I didn't even play Jaws of Hakkon, I frantically scroll whenever I see "Decent"/"Titans"/"Hakkon" and I still managed to catch on a few spoilers :[
I wanted to finish my books first (The Masked Empire, Asunder and The World of Thedas 1 & 2) and now I still need to level up enough ![]()

Haha - I can imagine them doing something cruel: what if prior to battle an option (only for romanced Lavellans) appears that reads "RESOLVE IN A CUTSCENE!", and after choosing it the player doesn't have to fight him... but instead watches Lavellan murder Solas in most heart-wrenching fashion possible? ![]()

What if he thanks her... For giving him a moment of peace.

At this point I'd like to remind myself that Solas is very likely to appear in DA4.
Also, come to think of it: Fighting Solas would be cruel for us, but there are many fans who hate his guts. For them it will be the opposite, they'll want their chance to "make the bastard pay".

The question still remains, pay for what? Not being liked by the player?
I do wonder if we will get context and answers for things like the orb. I hope so, because at least then people can point to something besides "he's bald and ugly" or "I don't like the way he thinks" or "he caused everything because of two lines someone said in the game." I'm good with people hating Solas. I'm good with them wanting to make him pay if he truly did something bad. I get a little irritated by hate = dead just because see above.
I've been playing Pillars of Eternity a bit lately, and that game more than anything makes you feel like you have no good option for anything. The best you can do in a lot of cases is take the least distasteful choice that you (or your character) can stomach. I wonder if this is the problem Solas had, either in the past or with more recent events.
I think a lot of people want to "make him pay" for breaking up with Lavellan. I think this is rather silly when you can plainly see how much it hurts him to do so. He doesn't want to do it..he feels like he has to. I bet when we finally find out why a lot of people will feel differently.
Several people also think he killed Flemeth/Mythal and a lot of people really like her.
I dunno..I think all the Solas hate is silly when you actually get to know the character and talk to him and bring him with you on missions. I think a lot of people just don't take him anywhere.
So, I started a game in DA2 (I have never played it before), and it got to the part where I could name the dog.
Yep.
I started a replay not long ago. Just casual, so I'll return to it once I'm done with current games. But if you're like me, you'll laugh to yourself whenever Merrill says "May the Dread Wolf take you!" in battle.

Unfortunately, that's a good enough reason for some players, but even if we ignore them, there's still a lot of people left that are mad.
Well, for one thing, he did lie the whole time he was with the Inquisition. A lie by omission is still a lie, IMO. Many innocent people died, and some of these deaths could've been avoided if he had just confessed and shared everything he knew.
I still remember my first playthrough. I was with a female Trevelyan mage and after a third of the game or so, Solas was her most trusted advisor. All the choices in that world state were based on his approval. Then I found he had his own secret agenda all along, and was involved in causing the whole problem in the first place. My feelings of betrayal were SO real, I've never experienced anything like this in a work of fiction before.
I understand now that if he'd just come clean, Chantry forces would probably just want to execute him or make him Tranquil. He also seems to be working towards something bigger that is supposed to save someone, whoever that is. Deep down he probably despises every desperate action he had to take. I headcanon that he never lies directly and gives confusing answers, because it makes a bit easier to bear all the deceit he has to resort to, even if he hates the image of the "trickster" he has had to become.
But I don't think all fans would see it that way, and him being such a polarizing figure confirms that. So, some people simply feel betrayed, want their revenge, and the "punch Solas" option's just not doing it for them.
