Weekes said once on Twitter (I think?) that Solas had no romantic interest in an Inquisitor that wasn't romancing him. So while the fascination and intrigue is there, it isn't likely to have been more.

Then that confirms what I thought. The recycled dialogue is not wise but probably cheaper and easier.

Memories of those early times help with the feels.

OK, I'm curious: How did Solas first catch your eye?

Funny thing is, it wasn't any of the romance-related content that got me interested in Solas in the first place. The romance itself was awesome once I got to it, but what caught my attention was the "Cause and effect. Wisdom as its own reward..." line and doing his personal mission for the first time with my Trev mage Inquisitor.

I remember it now... I thought he was just this fade weirdo and nothing more than a plot device to dispense lore on the fade and magic to new players. I had shelved his personal mission for a later time, but went to the Exalted Plains to meet the Dalish clan. Dorian was my main mage at the time, but I thought switching him out for Solas might help earn favor with the clan. (I didn't even know of his opinion of the Dalish back then.  ) Then while running errands for the clan, I went through Enavirus and accidentally triggered his personal mission.

And just like that... I wonder if I'd been better at reading the map back then, maybe I would've been a Cullenmancer who did one PT and moved on to other stuff to do in life.  :D

It was the same for me  I thought he was this bald, ugly weirdo. I remember before the game came out and looking at his character previews just like:

"Oh god, his clothes look like pajamas. He's bald ... wtf. He looks like if Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender and Spock had a baby. ewwww"

And then I played the game and my first thought was "God this guy is an a**hole"

It was only when I learned more about his respect for the fade and wisdom that I actually became interested in him. I think it was when he said something about how beautiful it would be if the fade was part of the physical world. In that moment I basically melted. I could see how beautiful it would be and the fact that he brought that thought to my mind made me respect him greatly.

It was all downhill from there lol

I know it's a bit off topic but since I'm playing my Dalish Mage to romance Solas... I figured I'd ask--- what specialization should I go for? I have only done Knight Enchanter and I love it, but I was thinking of going for rift Mage. Not because of Solas but because its different. What Specilizations are your favorites? Maybe by the time I get to it your opinions help as I'm terribly indecisive .

I played KE as well... but will be doing RM in my next :)

I can tell you how Solas caught my eye! I first played a female Mage that was human and romanced Cullen. Solas being older and wise (the kind of trait I like in men) I decided to talk to him and learn his views. Being a spirit fanatic myself I was fascinated by his stories and his lone wolf ways was a definite bonus. As the game progressed I realized my Trevelyan had more in common with Solas than Cullen and was disappointed he could not be romanced by a human. After I beat the game and ended all happy with Cullen I played a female Lavellan and tried Solas' romance. There was so much more to him than he allows any other race to see, and he was passionate and you could tell holding back and wanting to tell her everything. He was what I call a tortured soul and I've always liked those, so I romanced him right to the end and my fav part was the ending after the party. Her alone on the balcony with that expression on her face was like she was saying "we will meet again someday and I will get answers!"

Also is it just me or no matter your race, does Solas still seem to harbor some sort of interest that's a bit beyond friendship? I always got that vibe.

Dude, your story is so much like mine! Human Quizzy, romanced Cullen... but found myself being drawn to Solas and Cullen was just getting weird, haha. I think Solas' natural smoothness translates easily as attraction. I tried breaking up with Cullen but that look he gives you I just -- I couldn't. Fastforward to my next playthrough as an Elf (much better!), and that ending scene on the balcony alone was perfect.

Yes, same here.

I'm also kinda tired of the "keeping with the status quo" thing and them not meeting. It felt kinda like there was a build-up to them meeting and then it didn't pay off. So, I dunno, I may drop this fanfic soon.

I had to drop MS a while back.  I liked the modern day setting but seriously disliked the da'len/hahren thing and the fact that I started to get the vibe that it was going to start dragging a lot (and given that the author said there were 10-15 chapters left I think I was right).  Glad I stopped before the unexpected smut hit.

i predict 70% focus 30% kindness.

You'd know, Solas.

Am I the only fan who had the 'yes, just one: are you okay?' reaction to that line rather than 'MUST KILL EGG'?  Because it's starting to feel that way.

They did tweet that they added extra sauce (not exact-exact words) to the romances to make them stand out from the friend arcs.....so....fingers crossed and glued together that it includes Solas, yes?

My hope is that we're going to get a ton of stuff patched in.  Like... a reaction to Lavellan war table mission, kissy times with Solas, the missing Well dialouge and the removable of the 'what's a Mythal?' line.)

Rift Mage.  It's powerful and I can headcanon late night training/study sessions with Solas.

I saw the first picture of Solas back when people thought he was Dorian and though 'hey, he looks interesting'.  Went into his brand new thread in the brand new forum and saw a lot of hate :(  The reveal that he was written by Weekes and voiced by GDL just made me more interested in him.

Just talking to him. His beliefs, his knowledge, his personality, the things he believes in - freedom, open-mindedness, compassion. The flirts helped but I held off on making any decisions. I think my Lavellan flirted with Bull once, Cullen, Cass, and Sera as well as Solas before I made up my mind based on a few factors. His smoothness certainly didn't hurt. :)

Lol my male friend was creeped out by his smoothness. He looked at me and asked if Solas was gay. I died.

Yeah, this was exactly my experience!

I remember the banquet and watching the final balcony scene with Cullen and thinking, "Where the heck has Solas gone off to?"

By the way, in case anyone else is thinking their desktop wallpaper needs to have more wolves howling around eluvians, there's a decently large version of that image on the Dragon Age website. Spoilered for size.

Definitely not, I'm on the same boat as you, but I can understand why a lot of Lavellans/players feel the anger.

Rift Mage.  It's powerful and I can headcanon late night training/study sessions with Solas.

That would be my reaction too. That and please, please, please a hug. A simple, kind, "I'm sorry, I'm there for you, no matter what I can at least be your friend" hug.

And yeah, in my headcanon Lavellan learns everything from Solas, Your Trainer is just there for keeping appearances.

Argh, I'll be on vacation when the dlc drops :,(

Yay for egg, so excited! I never planned to romance him, I wanted my first Quiz to be a dwarf rogue but then I heard that being a female elf would have the most romance options so I went for that thinking that it would be nice to have as many options for my first playthrough.
And then the hand grabbing rift closing thing happened and I was doooooomed...

Your Trainer also comes to the study sessions.  The three of them have an amazing time studying Rift Magic and talking research.

Imagine Cole or Sera teaching you their specializations.

Cole: I just go where the knife needs me to be.

Sera: Pew, pew, pew. Easy, yeah?

Inquisitor: Thanks guys...

LOL I'm still surprised Cole says nothing about being an Assassin, but gets upset if you are a Necromancer or gets  a bit too... attached if you are a Rift Mage.

MS has dragged and then the latest smut. In addition to just being unexpectedly thrown in there, it wasn't even the same story in terms of tone and feel. I will have to see if she dials it back again and focuses. Otherwise I'll wait until it's finished and maybe skim to see how it ends.

And no, my Lavellan would have a rush of feelings and questions but the worry and concern is still there and she'd want to make sure he was okay too. It's like a jumble of Why didn't you say goodbye/are you okay/what happened/I've missed you/...and maybe a hug...

ugh Solas

Illyria you are not alone.  I don't have any hate towards Solas .. neither does my character.  Maybe some anger but definitely not in the omg I want to kill you area.

Also, Rift Mage is awesome.  I like it more than Knight Enchanter.

I think it's mostly how - in practice - Rift Mages and Necromancers treat the Fade and spirits. Rift mages understand the Fade a pretty great deal and use its raw form, among other things, while Necromancers use wisps and fragments of spirits to push in to dead bodies to control them and stuff...

Wait, wait, wait! What does Cole say if you're a Rift Mage? I'm usually a Rogue (Tempest, and no one but Bull talks to you about it!), and the only time I went Mage was as a Knight Enchanter and only Vivi was the only one interested, and even then it was to say "ofc I'm a KE lol".

He says you remind him of himself and he likes the feeling. You can even say how pleased you are that he feels that way.

Both Vivienne and Solas have something to say about KE. For Rift Mage - it's Solas and Cole.

(well, and Sera, but she has more of a general opinion about IQ's magic and chosen specialization)

My first question would probably be "And what now?" - what happens next? He cannot simply vanish anymore. Solas needs to take responsibility and I think he hates it. Seriously, though, Solas couldn't have thought that vanishing would be a foolproof way to get away from everything involving the Inquisitor, right? But then again, being a centuries-old egg probably screws with your brain a bit.

My Lavellan would probably punch him, teary-eyed, and demand to help in any way that she can. The rough version of "I just want to help..."
