My body is so not ready.  I figured after Descent, it'd be months before the new DLC actually dropped.  I'd have time to replay my Lavellan, and sort out all my feels.

Thinking back on it I did have a "cruel to be kind" mentality when it came to my protagonists. x) Okay, so Alistair didn't want to be king or doink a woman he absolutely hates, but it was so I wouldn't have to choose between him and leaving poor Fenris all alone after Hawke promising she'd never leave him. ;_;

 

With Alistair, I see this a lot and yes, he is initially quite reluctant in part because he doesn't believe in himself, but if he's hardened, his overall confidence rises. If you pledge to be by his side as queen, he feels even better about the whole thing. Not that he has no doubts, he does, but I don't take lack of confidence and reluctance as definitively doesn't want to.

 

In any case, there was no way my Hawke would leave Anders alone out there in the world and stay in the Fade, so Stroud and his epic moustache were up.

 

The two year time skip bothers me if the whole Wardens/Weisshaupt situation isn't even referenced. Because Hawke will have effectively left Anders alone in my world for that time and ugh. I suspect the DA4 guesses about heading north are more likely to address this, but I hope they give us a few crumbs.

In my headcanon, Fenris was with Hawke the whole time, even fighting at Adamant - just with the rest of our teammates who weren't the chosen 3 and so didn't get sucked up into the Fade, and then goes with her to Weisshaupt. I'd love to think that's what the devs would have done if there'd been the resources for it. But I know what you mean, canonically, Hawke's looking like an awful partner.

 

Off-topic, but I think the Inquisitor dying thing could boil down to a choice as to whether Solas fixes your hand, or takes the power away from Inky, possibly killing them in the process. I think we'll be offered a choice in this, so whether or not our Quizzy dies will be based on what Solas says/does. Ofc this assumes we meet Solas at the end (which I'm suspecting will be the case, romance or not, Solas is the cliffhanger we all want resolved, I don't think they'd give that away part of the way through or even at the beginning).

It definitely goes both ways. I always think the best course of action if someone doesn't get a joke is to politely ask the artist/writer to clarify their meaning, rather than lodge personal attacks against the creator. Which is what I'm seeing a lot of today, and why I brought it up. Myself and most of the artists I know on Tumblr love it when people come to them and ask them questions about the art, jokes and writing they create. I know if someone doesn't get my thought process or intent behind a piece I absolutely looove to break it down for them.

 

But the trouble with the internet is it's very hard to judge tone.  If you see something and think it's mocking something you love, you're likely to take it at face value and get offended.  And then it ends up in a horrible case of both sides thinking the other side is horrible.

 

This is why I like this thread rather than tumblr because we've generally been able to sort out our issues without too much trouble.

Yes and no. There's malicious and then their's lampooning lightly.  There are dozens of shows that do this.  Noone seems to be having a mental breakdown in the Star Trek fandom because they get MOCKED ON THE REGULAR.  And those shows DO inform popular perception of things.  This is just me defending comedy in general.  Like...I do understand people's tolerance for certain "funnies" varies but if it's not directed specifically at you and you wandered into their space and saw it...you kind of just have to suck it up and move on.  

 

I get what you're saying though.  And the conclusion is tumblr sucks - just post gifs of young James Spader.

For me, expecting him to show up at the very end helps with that. I'm still very curious to see what the other companions have been up to and beyond excited that there might be some sort of panel of judges, including the Divine, who makes decisions based on Inky's choices.

 

So I'll go through the DLC knowing he'll be there eventually. Now I'm a little afraid for the final meeting TBH.

I had basically stopped feeling bad for Anders...until I left my Hawke who romanced him in the Fade.  At least in my headcanon, he doesn't last too long without her  I'd always pictured a bit of a Bolivian Army Ending for them anyway.

Yeah, which is why I think if people have an issue with what they see they should ask for clarification before getting defensive and assuming horrible things about the OP. It turns a misunderstanding into a huge mess. Which again, is another reason I prefer the thread to the tumblr fandom. Outside a few isolated incidents, everyone here seems to like discussion, and so if they don't get something they ask or just ignore, rather than personally attack and I think that's neat.

I haven't experienced the Anders romance, but I could see him as being one who'd cope without Hawke. He seemed strong headed and very focus driven, he'd give himself a project and get stuck into it, but I don't know, the romance could reveal some inner insecurities he has.

 

Fenris I could see coping somewhat, but with a lot of setbacks in his personality. My Hawke was a Mage supporter, and given how antagonistic he is on the whole Mage subject I like to think he and Hawke reached an understanding of agree-to-disagree, that Fenris is okay to help Hawke saving Mages so long as they're strong people, or they're taken somewhere where they're surrounded by a lot of people capable of handling them) but he never changes his mindset about Mages. Without Hawke, I could see him doing a 180 and doing some awful things.

My body is not ready either. I won't be able to play Decent or Trespasser until I get a new computer in November. I was kind of hoping the new DLC wouldn't come out until then so I could play it with all of you guys...but nope...I have to wait. I hate waiting!

I like the idea that Solas was too weak to remove it himself, or that he needed both power and the Orb to try and remove it.

 

Yeah, we know that Corypheus tried and failed to do so with the Orb, but would it really surprise anyone to learn that Corypheus failed because he has no idea how to use the Orb properly. Rather than the Anchor being permanent because we ruined it, it was more about Corpyheus being too arrogant to admit that he was the problem and really should have RTFM at some point.

Personally, I joke about something because I take it seriously. Humor is a chance to take a breather from the more intense emotions, no matter if it's about a fandom or something IRL. Plus, it creates a bond for people who can handle it.

 

But I have a "live and let live" attitude. If someone does not like some type of humor, I'll respect it. Really, sounds super cliche, but we should just all aim to respect each other, Solasmances, Solas haters, smut lovers, fluff bunnies, pro-mage, pro-Chantry, there are human beings behind all these categories. I never get to hear the full story that made someone so sensitive or blunt, so I always try to aim for kindness as my first line of defense.

I've known myself looking at some of the jokes circled even here about Solas and thinking "... Are they really joking?", especially when the same joke can span pages, and I have to keep reminding myself that these people do like the character and aren't attacking them out of hate, because I've been there to see them spew how much they're fascinated by him and see him as a great character. I can't imagine what someone new popping in and seeing it for the first time.

Plus there's the fact that there's a narrow distinction between saying something bluntly and being aggressive. I know people who pretend to be blunt but use it as an excuse to just be rude to people, and it's super hard to know who's being what on a thread.

 

Solution: always get context. Especially here. If you're not sure, ask. The vast majority of arguments happen due to misunderstandings.

It depends on how you approach it, really. I follow certain blogs, unfollow them if they post too much content I dislike/am bored by instead of the stuff I originally followed for, and mostly stick to my dash for my content. I can end up searching something by tag, but you just have to recognize the tag is for everyone and there might be things you'll disagree on or dislike. I skip em or debate if I feel like it and think I have a good counterpoint. But honestly seeing people complain about character or fandom hate on tumblr is kinda silly to me cus, really, you don't have to pay attention to those posts at all. And you can always respond instead by flooding the tag with thoughtfulness and positivity.

It seems to me Solas was just planning to use him, so it might've actually worked out better for him to not LTFS (I loove that abbreviation and will use it from now on every chance I get ). It prolonged his proto-divine existence a bit and let to the creation of the Inquisition, an organization that, depending on your PT, stood for the interests of shemlen of all races, as opposed to whoever Solas is trying to protect.
