You know, this reminds me, I haven't seen The Gif™ in quite a long time. Does anyone have it to hand? I'm gonna go look for it.

I'm almost thankful I lost my main save since I'm looking forward to trying out different team combos properly. I haven't jumped to Varric at all much since he feels quite stiff and hardly useful, so I'm looking forward to getting more companions to try it out (I'm looking at Dorian xD).

 
Leaving traps to the AI sucks.  Straight-up.  If you want Varric to be good and actually use any artificer powers, you need to control him yourself.  Here's what I do with my Artificer Lavellan, and you can do the same thing with Varric:
 
1) Stealth up to a group of bad guys
2) Lay down Spike Trap
3) Toss out Elemental Mines in front of you; this will more often than not trigger combat since the mines scatter.
4) Use Leaping Shot, Fallback Plan, or just plain running the f*** away to pull back
5) Watch bad guys take elemental mines, then get catapulted into the air by Spike Trap
6) Giggle
 
The AI in DA:I is better than before, but it still almost always runs straight at you when combat initiates.  Even mages and archers.  So this works on just about any enemies that aren't bosses or critters with weird movement (Despair demons).

Um, he/she is. The Anchor bestows on them the power to do exactly that. Even Solas said so in the Fade (which, of course, a loathed Inquisitor will never hear). True that even evil/bad/incompetent Quizzy is a step-up from Corypheus, but considering how oftentimes Cory himself alludes that Inquisitor is his rival in a 'competition' to reach godhood, we don't really know whether Inquisitor isn't a greater danger to the world in the long run.

I get what you're saying, and quizzy can be a nasty piece of work. But I would argue that quizzy is in a position where the only way s/he can use the Anchor is to LTFS (which I also love as a phrase ). Solas stopped the Anchor from killing quizzy. Solas taught him/her how to use it. He plays dumb, but I'll bet he knows some of the other capabilities of the Anchor (Corypheus's claim of assaulting the heavens comes to mind) and simply chose not to tell because he didn't need quizzy to know.

May I introduce you to Zevran Arainai?

 

Beyond the whole "failed to assassinate you" thing, he legit has zero drama. No break points. No dumping you because you're an elf/mage/dwarf or because you thought another warden could be handy to have around. 

 

He doesn't even really lose approval if you do shitty things.

Seriously though, Zevran's a bit of a weird case because his romance could have been super dramatic - he's had a really shitty life and done some shitty things he regrets and is kind of wary of a full, loving, romantic commitment to someone at first - but he's so chill that it doesn't feel dramatic at all.

 

I think DA could do with more drama-free romances. Things akin to Garrus' romance in ME3 - where the LI either has all their **** together, or they sort out their problems by themselves, on their own terms, without the PC having to complete a companion quest. It makes for an interesting change of pace from usual (plus, the chance of tragic heartbreak from accidentally becoming the girlfriend of an ancient elven god goes down by at least 75%, I hear).

I feel like the worst Solas fan in the world because I do not want my Lavellan to go with him.

If his story is too big to cover in this DLC, then I want him to be free to show up in future games without there being that question of 'Inquisitor is where?' 

 

My dream end for my Solasmancing Quizzy would be for her to come to an understanding with Solas, and then sod off into nature and become the future of the Dalish. Girl is as elfy as they get and she has a whole bunch of knowledge and Well-Brain going on, plus all the lore that is to come in Trespasser. The wisdom she could impart on her fellow Dalish..

 

It would be nice for the Dalish to get something nice for a change. She could be like.. The Divine for Dalish.

It's a beautiful dream.

 

Because I don't have a romantic bone in my body, I am no good at picturing my Inquisitor having these touching reunions with Solas. I originally always said she'd be angry, but after two years of being alone in Skyhold I am going to be RPing her as someone who is just tired and frustrated. So when I close my eyes and try and picture the scene..

 

..I just imagine them sitting in front of that Eluvian, each smoking a pipe of happy fun time weed and having a 'totes deep conversation about where it all went wrong and Elven Gods stuff.

"Cool story bro. Stuff happens yeah? S'all good. I forgive you" *loving pat on the back*

 

Romance 

 

 

I could not sleep last night. Mostly because of the big ass spider on my wall, but also because whenever I closed my eyes my brain started playing out Worst Case Scenario endings for DAI.

I could deal with my Solasmancer dying, but I couldn't deal with my Dorianmancer dying. There is still hope for him. Hope that I may have a Bioware character other than my Zevran-mancing HoF who is bloody happy   ILY MAHARIEL. I HOPE YOU FIND A CURE AND KEEP LIVING THE DREAM. 

Plus, death is kinda lazy and after ME3 I don't really need that kinda rage spiral again. 

 

 

Ah.. and did anyone go down the angry route during the Solas break up? The one where she angrily shoves him and storms off? Was that just me?

...He, er.. He won't bring that up will he? It has been two years? But then.. what's two years when you are as old as Solas...

..Ah. 

 

Knowing me, I am probably going to end up being more upset over the end of my Solas/Tristan bromance than I am my Niamh/Solas romance. My boys! My beautiful boys! I hope non-romancers get a decent chat with him. Then romancers will get the extra squishy stuffs.

DA4's male elf romance will just involve standing in the shadow of an elf who has already left, whilst bathing in the collective tears taken from Inquisition fans after Trespasser DLC drops.

I won't be able to finish a second playthrough of my Lavellan, so I'm killing the intervening time by replaying Jaws and Descent post-endgame, so it feels like time has passed when Trespasser drops.

 

But work today...I think I've just accepted that nothing is getting done.  Very hard to think intelligent thoughts about data when Solas gifs short-circuit me every few seconds.

Oh hands down Solas.  I've weaned myself off the Anders poison.  Solas still has me firmly in his clutches.
