Of course, the romance should never ever define a companion, ever, especially when they have an entire background and a big role...

However, I don't want to think the idea of having something special done with romanced Solas is improbable, besides the fact I cling to hope like a shy child to his father's leg in a festival, I also think that because they care about their fanbase that they'll have some special content.

Maybe I'm just deluding myself though D:

I'm also clinging to that hope because Citadel (which I bought but have not yet played), but from what I can tell it was definitely made for the fans.

I revived my twitter which I never used before. I'm @inny6 Follow me if you like, I like friends. :)

Might as well just post but I'm c_gonzalez over there. So if anyone follows say hi. I tweet about...stuff. It varies. It gets much much easier to appreciate and be chatty over Twitter when you start interacting with people. And then the floodgates opened in my case. ;)

Well, in ME only 20% of the Shepards were female, out of them a portion romanced Garrus.

Still put a lot of effort into the romance and content and it was beautiful.

BioWare care about their fans.

And yet they killed Shepard in the end, sending fans into a huge cry of outrage.

Not for meeeeeeeeeee

I still cried, a lot.

For days.

But that's because I'm bad with endings, I then proceeded to imagine how smugglers find Shepard among the wreckage while scavenging and take her to ask for ransom.. Etc. etc. etc.

I still have the scene Garrus and her re-meet after a few months etched into my brain

Giving Cory the orb and being behind the whole mess wasn't villianous enough? :P Not to mention things he probably did in the past. I think maybe because we (fans) already see him as a sympathetic character it's...I dunno...easy to overlook how others view him, and his actions and worldview. It's not Anders level hate, but he does lie and oppose the PC, which always garners intense dislike.

He never truly lies to you, though. He speaks in half-truths, most of the time. He declares that elves aren't his people, the stuff that he says is (mostly, based on what we know) true, too. The only thing he does, if pressured, is blame everything on the Fade. "How do you know this? You were there when X happened? How can you be friends with spirits? How do you know the elven history?" "Uhhh...Fade!" Heck, he WANTED to tell Lavellan the truth (This was stated in an interview with Weekes.) but got cold feet at the end, told her the stuff about the vallaslin, realised that he can't live a lie like this and broke everything off to save her (and most likely himself) from further pain.

Forever Marked achievement, ey?

Welp, I suppose that means that the Anchor may not be fading (unless it means something else entirely).

Far-fetched DLC prediction: we'd be able to choose to pass on the Mark (though not necessarily walk away unchanged by the whole ordeal), but only to the huge green-blue-glowy Saarebas we saw in the trailer.

Crazy future prediction. The Anchor will be shared between a great deal of important people or maybe even future PCs of next DA installments, making them basically the superheroes of Thedas (didn't the devs call Inquisitor 'a superhero' recently? They did!)

AND THUS THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS WAS BORN! (with Dread Wolf as CEO)

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power, Anchor's Green Lantern's light!!!

Last week I made a Captain Planet joke in reference to someone's comment about all the combined PCs with their Anchors. But I like this since hey green light!

Didn't dream it! Huzzah! Although I forgot about the Cole and Cass bit. I guess if you took Solas around with a team he doesn't gel with then maybe you would have ended up not liking him as much. Cole, Cass and Solas were the first team I took through DA, with added romance I just had all the Solas feels.

I have taken him with Sera and Blackwall and it didn't work too well. He also doesn't do too well, sometimes, with Dorian. Nor Viv.

IB who leaves the Qun is good but otherwise, definitely not good

I went in fully equipped for a Solas favouring playthrough in my first run. There was no stopping me  :P

The actual quote, "to maker Solas sadder" was taken from an interview with NerdAppropriate, I remember how I waited for that interview for days XD

When I was playing earlier, walking around Skyhold, I noticed that it still looked like shit. I wonder if on Trespasser, Skyhold will finally look better, because after 2 fucking years, surely people would have found time to get those filthy wood planks out of the fucking floor now, WOULDN'T THEY?

To be honest, I was really puzzled when I found out some people hated him; I thought Bioware made it fairly clear that he was a wise, kind and compassionate character. I guess these qualities don't mean anything to the people who are happy to just react negatively to his personality (which can come off as a little patronizing if he doesn't like you) and not give it a second thought. And I think the problem is that it's just too easy for these people to say "because I just hate him". (There was a thread on the DA subreddit yesterday and you can see those responses there).

People really hate elves in the DAverse (sucks to be them when ELVES RECLAIM THEDAS. GLORY TO THE ELVEN EMPIRE)

Ahem..

So, I can see how he is an easy target.

He is very serious, he doesn't smile much, he can be a tad hypocritical in some of his party banter, he's pro-mage (which is another unpopular opinion), he doesn't like the Grey Wardens (which a lot of people are biased towards because of their love of their HoFs), he isn't happy at whichever option you pick at that damn Well   and of course, if you don't find him an appealing character, the truth about how Cory got his orb isn't going to make you suddenly like the guy.

So I can see why people don't like him. But they may also have not bothered to get to know him properly either.

I personally like all the DAI companions now. Didn't in the beginning, but I've run with them all and made Inquisitors that fit well with different people so I can see them with a different mindset.

Whether or not Solas really lies to the Inquisitor is something that's been debated a few times here, and I don't think there was ever a conclusive resolution aside from "it depends on your perspective". Some people think he lies to you, some think he doesn't quite  say enough to count as a lie.

To me, lies of omission are still lies, but I'm not too angry about it. He most definitely has his reasons that are justified in my eyes, and something ChuChu said quite a while springs to mind when I think about it:

Solas absolutely has trust issues! I think there's more than enough dialogue to support this and that it is canon. I think it Fen'HALARIOUS that when he chickens out of telling her all, the first thing he thinks to say is the vallaslin bit. Because it is literally staring him in the face. Smooth move, Dread. But oh, how smooth he really was, because you're right: it is something both distracting and monumentally characteristic of him to want to educate you. He is a scholar. He is a fighter. He is a god -- but undoubtedly raised to that status much like how the Inquisitor is raised to the title of Herald. Not of his own free will. With this in mind, I support that he is vulnerable and wounded and accustomed to being shut out by those he tries to help (ie: Dalish clans who call him a madman) -- and thusly, he would indeed be fearful of telling an elfquizzy about the slave marks. She might shut him out too -- his friend, his vhenan. But when you romance him, that love establishes such a connection that he feels he can tell you anything. Anything. The fact he nearly spills his own truth reveals how strongly the romance affects him. So sad.

Pasting the actual quote so you could see the post just refuses to happen, so I'll just copy it. x)

Indeed. :(

"In a way, it was to make it sadder. If you want to see the utter sadness of Solas, it’s the playthrough in which you’re romancing him. Because you get to see that he does care about you. It’s obvious, I hope, that his feelings for you are not fake, that he cares about you deeply. And he is one step away from telling you the truth about himself."

Patrick Weekes, when asked why Solas is a romance option.

I agree but...that's a nuance people who find the character sympathetic are likely to make. Which is my point, not everyone really looks that close... Hence the romance was there to give us a reason to see his side of things. It makes it more sad because we realize he is suffering greatly.

This is how I see it as well. Lying is what Blackwall does. Solas just... doesn't tell you the full truth.

In fairness, there are times when even my romanced Quizzy would have had some major arguments with Solas. He can be very short and use some pretty provocative language, like when he calls Bull "a mindless beast", or shoots down Dorian for asking him questions, or telling Sera that she's not what she should be. I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of Sera, but I was raging with him. How dare he tell someone how they should think because they are of one race or another. If I could have transported myself into my Quizzies body, I would have bitch slapped him down sooooo hard.

That's the thing though, he's a character, with his own flaws and skewed perceptions. I can forgive most people certain biased views so long as they are willing to re-evaluate those beliefs later on and admit to their faults. Solas does that. It makes the parts of him that annoy me all the more bearable because it makes him all the more real.

I did not like Vivienne at all in my first 2 playthroughs, and I refused to kill the white wyvren for her, but third time is a charm and I did her missions and got to know her a little more and now she's not so bad.

I feel like people who don't like Solas haven't given him a chance. It's kind of hard to like a character you ignore.

Edit: I also didn't like Zevran at first either, but then I romanced him and he's so sweet. It was a surprise.

my first play through i made a human because I couldn't make a decent looking elf for the life of me. I didn't plan on romancing Solas because before playing or knowing anything about him, I just saw that shiny egg head and was like HELL NOOOO I don't like baldies - which was a shame because I am always pro elf in all games.
But when I played he became my bro and my quis and him were great chums. So naturally on my 2nd play through I made an elf and tried harder to make her look decent, and of course romanced Solas.
I love Solas as a character - and I think it's even better that a lot of people don't like him, he's a very deep an interesting elf.
I've prepped my lavellan for the next dlc, finished the other 2 now. My non-romanced solas characters have yet to complete the dlcs still..agh.

I liked Zevran until I romanced him.  The rude comment at Andraste's ashes about using as for a potted plant was the last straw for me.  Too flippant, rude and crude. But that's just my opinion.  I know a lot of people loved him.

lol, I did all of Vivienne's quests and killed the white wyvern for her and she still didn't like me. (Got the highest disapproval/rearranging furniture scene. xD) I guess a major factor for her disapproval of my Lavellan is going pro-mage. :P

She's much warmer to my m!Trevelyan though, who sided with the Templars. Still haven't continued his playthrough so I still can't say whether I like her or not. (Though really, I don't hate her.)
