In fairness, there are times when even my romanced Quizzy would have had some major arguments with Solas. He can be very short and use some pretty provocative language, like when he calls Bull "a mindless beast", or shoots down Dorian for asking him questions, or telling Sera that she's not what she should be. I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of Sera, but I was raging with him. How dare he tell someone how they should think because they are of one race or another. If I could have transported myself into my Quizzies body, I would have bitch slapped him down sooooo hard.
That's the thing though, he's a character, with his own flaws and skewed perceptions. I can forgive most people certain biased views so long as they are willing to re-evaluate those beliefs later on and admit to their faults. Solas does that. It makes the parts of him that annoy me all the more bearable because it makes him all the more real.
This. I love Solas, but I still find myself saying "Oof, Solas, that was a bit harsh," when he verbally beats one of our companions. Especially since it seems to come out in early banter, and then things ease up as the chain goes further along. If someone told me that after what Solas says to Bull at the start of the Qun discussion could eventually lead to him playing a friendly game of mental chess with the same guy, I don't think I'd entirely believe them.
Hell, reading Solas' dialogue with Vivienne seems to relax the longer you have the two of them talking together as the story progresses. It's easy to see why people might not take to him, he takes time to enjoy properly. I suppose first impressions mean a lot more than I give credit for sometimes. x)
Edit: I think how sparingly the banter triggers is a factor in this as well. I can still go an hour or two without hearing anyone talk.
