Just going to avoid Tumblr again for a while. I'd try to just mute tags but something could slip, even though most people I follow would be unlikely to spread spoilers. Twitter too, but being cautious for now. Someone put spoilers in Ashe's mentions (which luckily, I didn't see) and we got the person for blocking purposes but be careful reading devs Twitter feeds from now on.

Basically, the actions I hold Solas responsible for or partly responsible for is giving Corypheus the orb and all the things Corypheus has directly done with the orb. For example the Breach and the death and destruction of the conclave, and all the chaos that resulted from that, is partly Solas' fault since without Solas' orb Corypheus could not have done that. Now the things Corypheus does without the orb, like trying to turn factions to his side willingly or almost always unwillingly, is not on Solas but solely Corypheus because Corypheus could do that with or without Solas' orb.

Your gun analogy is good but I think it works better if instead of a parent giving a child a loaded gun, it is a person getting another person a gun despite a background check or more accurately a person giving another person a gun in a back alley. Solas knows who and what Corypheus is, giving us insight into him throughout the game. So he would know that whatever Corypheus had planned, it wasn't good. So it'd be like someone giving someone they know is shady a loaded gun. Whatever that person with the gun does with that gun, the person who gave it to them is also partly responsible.

There's a running theory that Solas expected the orb to utterly obliterate Corypheus- so, working orb for him and dead darkspawn magister, win/win.   It's fairly clear from in-game dialogue that he was shocked that C. survived ToSA, and he didn't expect a "mere" Tevinter magister to be capable of wielding the orb's power.

Poor Mike and Patrick are being bothered by people on Twitter. They want answers to what they found and he rightfully isn't giving any. Seems Twitter and Tumblr are also unsafe if you are avoiding spoilers.

That's insane considering people are jumping to some huge conclusions.

Solas tells he didn`t believe some on like Corypheus would unlock the orb, maybe coryfish surprised even him.

Furthermore, I think we should take into account what he says about unlocking the orb, about how he would never have believed Cory would unlock it. It is entirely possible he thought the orb would kill Cory when it unlocked (and I think it did, but Cory used his nifty get-out-of-death-free card), fixing two problems with one boom.

I would argue the situation might have been like giving a person who has never seen a gun a loaded one with the safety on. Fully secure in the belief that they don't know how to make it a danger.

Still doesn't absolve him of being partly responsible for what Corypheus does with the orb merely because he was arrogant. Plus why give someone an orb you need unlocked if you think they can't do anything with it?

Exactly! Huge conclusions result in rumors that result in misunderstandings and then the "spoiler" turns out to be fake because the truth behind them were lost waaay back when the real spoiler was first revealed.

Do we really know? At all? Solas' analysis during the course of the game seems pretty vague, very much based on what he would expect rather than what he knows for certain. From Bianca we know that Cory used the warden from Legacy for a while, what is there to say Solas didn't believe that was all there was to him as well? Furthermore, I think we should take into account what he says about unlocking the orb, about how he would never have believed Cory would unlock it. It is entirely possible he thought the orb would kill Cory when it unlocked (and I think it did, but Cory used his nifty get-out-of-death-free card), fixing two problems with one boom.

I've been thinking about this a lot and there's still a problem here. if Solas believed Cory would unlock the orb and make it go boom, thus killing him, then that means Solas believed there would be a boom in the first place. If this is the case, and Solas knew the conclave explosion was going to happen, killing thousands, then I'd definitely have a bone to pick with him, myself.

However, I'm not so sure this is the case. I think, when Solas says "it wasn't supposed to happen this way" he means the Breach itself. Cus, let's remember, the Breach resulted from the orb's power exploding outward, and the orb did that cus it got knocked sideways and jostled during the ritual Cory was doing. The Breach itself wasn't even Corypheus' intended consequence of that ritual, much less Solas'. If Justinia hadn't knocked it out of his hands (and the Inquisitor hadn't picked it up), I have a feeling the ritual would have either simply resulted in a powered up orb, or maybe a stable portal there in the basement. (EDIT: Or it would have resulted in an Anchor in his hand, which is what he basically says when he accuses the Inquisitor of stealing the Mark, the "result of a ritual years in the planning", and the only thing that would let him traverse a portal to the fade. Duh, Liz. >_>)

The ritual being interrupted was what caused the power to go wild. It was like jostling a crate of TNT.

This still brings up a problem with Solas for me, cus even if what I just said was accurate, does that mean he knew Cory was gonna blood sacrifice someone to unlock the orb? Was he ok with this and just sitting by in the neighboring village waiting for it to happen? That's something I need answered. but I'm not so sure its right to blame him, or even Corypheus technically, for the Breach itself. I'm pretty sure that was just an all around accident.

Yeeep. Some of the stuff I'm reading is insane.

If you accidentally spoil yourself, know this: we barely have anything. At least as of this moment. A lot of people are just spinning their wheels and going off in crazy directions that are being then spread as fact.

But. Given that the developers are now being hit by twitter trolls, it might be a good idea to abandon ship now if you want to be completely unspoiled. :[

Yeah this is what Mike said:

""We rummaged around in your files, and now you have to explain stuff we found" is not my favourite interaction here. Please don't do that."

Patrick also gave a warning:

"Spoilers. Also posting spoilers to me sans ROT13. You are now blocked."

If you see #ROT13 in a tweet, avoid it!

I think there's a possibility that Solas knew Cory would use cruel methods, but Solas is a very... practical man in my eyes. I believe that he, after working for who knows how long, would think that a few regrettable sacrifices would be inevitable. And you know what? In the world of Thedas, I'd take the man who grits his teeth and gets his hands dirty over the one lamenting what might happen. Thedas is a mess.

And I'm with you on the "would there be a boom?" theory. Personally I think that the explosion that caused the breach was a mistake, but that he believed the amount of power needed to power up the orb would be too much for any mortal to handle. Sorta how a lightning-strike can make electric appliances brake. So I think he didn't predict an explosion for Cory, more like an overload of power.

Oh oh, maybe Solas thought Cory would end up in the Black City and then he could trap him there!

Able to unlock it, yes.  Able to survive the unlocking, he did not expect.

In theory, he was throwing Corypheus a live grenade.  The fact that C caught it, repinned it, and then flattened ToSA with it suggests Corypheus had knowledge/power Solas never expected him to have- likely his connection to the "Darkness".

I don't think anybody said anything about him being be absolved of being at least partially responsible - still, question is whether the punishment would be proportional to the blame, since we don't really know just HOW responsible he is for Cory+Orb combo.

We do know that he blames himself for the Orb eventually falling into his hands, but we have no idea how it went, or what was the alternative.

We also do know that some actions, either noble or desperate (sometimes both) lead to unforeseen consequences not everyone can control - it was a large theme in Inquisition... and if I'm to make one prediction about Trespasser that I think is fairly accurate is that - aside from Inquisitor having to deal with consequences of his/her past decision - will be put in a position to do something that may have even more dire consequences for the world, largely mirroring the fate of Fen'Harel.

Will you feed your Inquisitor to the snake, if history will remember them as a villain as well? Even if you do know better?
