Did Garnet kill the thread with that gif?!?!?!?!
Did Garnet kill the thread with that gif?!?!?!?!
I can post just fine.
I think this depends very much about which side we are looking at. If you look at Solas, his people need him. He already made clear that neither Thedas nor the current elves are 'his people', so he's probably only trying to do what's good and right for his own people, those that he connects with. (Which I cannot judge him for, dude woke up only recently and truly doesn't see this world as anything more than a doomed future, kind of how the Inquisitor and Dorian saw the future that Alexius shaped.) I think one of Solas' biggest flaws is, yes, his pride and the inability to see that modern Thedas is worth saving all the same. He even comes close to throwing everything overboard for a romanced Lavellan. "She's real which means everyone could be real. it changes everything, but it can't." The fact is, even if Solas might have bad intentions for the player character and modern Thedas, he still cares. It's a major character flaw, but it makes him utterly interesting. Solas cares, which can't be because it very much interfers with his plans. A romanced Lavellan is just the icing on the cake that makes him really question his own intentions.
I agree. Him having conflict with continuing on with his mission or leaving it be after his time with the Inquisition makes him a compelling character, but that doesn't change what his actions have and most likely will(since we know this isn't the last we'll see of Solas) cause. He is still putting his people, whoever he is referring to, above the rest of Thedas including his friends and possibly the woman he loves. He has made his choices, and should have to face the consequences of them.
And many of which is good - as well as many that are hard to categorize. You simply assume that it has to be bad, instead of myriad of other possible options, neither of them as simple as saying "he's innocent" or something like it.
I operate with the data available. And with the data available, I see no scenario where what happened if the lesser of two evils.
It being "equivalent scenario" doesn't matter. It is a pretty real possibility for Inquisitor, whether it matches what Solas did or not. There's a possibility you're going to have to answer it anyway - if not here, then maybe while playing the DLC, if you'd choose to play it. Or maybe in DA4, when Inquisitor's legacy may be distorted by time, lack of information or perhaps maybe even active propaganda. Or what they did would be exploited by someone else.
Fine. If my character did something terrible, I would have no qualms with them being arrested. Just like I had no qualms with Shepard being imprisoned after killing over 300,000 Batarians and slaves in the Arrival DLC.

I did. Its not like Shepard was gunning for those Batarians. And destroying the relay delayed the reaper invasion. Not saying they should necessarily get a parade, but imprisonment isn't right, either.
I do agree with you that, if you are correct about his intentions and future plans ultimately being bad for modern Thedas (like bringing back the pantheon to restart the elvhen empire) then he needs to be stopped. Though, I think he earned at least the benefit of the doubt in his time with us closing the Breach and helping repair its damage. Earned the chance of giving an explanation before we go "off with his head", especially an explanation of the events surrounding Cory and the orb. What did he know of Corypheus' intentions and when did he know it -- that sort of thing.

I'll certainly give him a chance to defend himself and his actions. Everyone deserves a defense.
After that happens, the next step depends on data currently unavailable.

We don't know if he does that simply because he puts "his people" above others, just like we don't know if Mythal's motive is simply revenge on whoever betrayed her.
Also - what makes you think he'd suffer no consequences? He said himself (in a "message" left with Cole) that he wouldn't wish his ultimate fate on and enemy. A punishment from anyone else may be redundant, considering that he seems ready to punish himself with what seems to be fate worse than death. In fact, leaving the woman he loves and people he cares about behind may even turn out to be part of that self-inflicted punishment.

Punishing yourself doesn't work as a valid justice system for societies to operate.
Dammit now I had the whole plot for Mass Effect spoiled. Thanks a lot!
It's been five years, and nothing was spoiled except part of a DLC from the second game. Sorry though.
Dammit now I had the whole plot for Mass Effect spoiled. Thanks a lot!
The stuff being referred to is really just an optional DLC, which you could skip (though I wouldn't recommend it). Only one thing that is truly relevant was posted but I'll stop here.
Dammit now I had the whole plot for Mass Effect spoiled. Thanks a lot!
As you have stated several times that you are never going to play Mass Effect... Sarcasm?
AUUUUUGH.
I just got home after being out all day and then there's spoilers everywhere and I don't want to look at them but I do, but I don't, but I do, but... ![]()
I don't know what to do with myself.
And Shepard was forced into a situation where they had no choice but to watch a lot of Batarians die - but in doing so saved that many more people by delaying the Reapers. This is why the world does not work in black and white. You can't praise them with one hand while executing them with the other, because while the deaths were terrible it really was a case for the greater good. For all we know, the similar is true for Solas. Lots of people might die, but if it means, say, saving the whole of the universe that everyone lives in so at least some of them can survive and go on living, is he still worthy of crucifying, or does he then deserve our respect for being the person willing to carry that burden on his conscience?
Not saying that's what he is doing. He could very well end up being an evil jerk that just want to slaughter everyone and start the whole pantheon beach party, but there's just no way to declare anything with certainty. That'll happen on Tuesday.

A bizarre notion - what makes you think that any society currently in Thedas as a justice system that can in any capacity make a just judgment on whatever Solas might have done?
He even mocks "human justice" - and rightfully so - when he sees how a man would be hanged in Val Royeaux in place of Thom Rainier. What's more, Inquisitor can later show the hilarious holes in the system, by putting Rainier under Inquisition's jurisdiction through Josephine and her favors, and judge him however he or she sees fit.

No, but seriously... how the heck am I going to keep myself from wanting to see spoilers until Tuesday? I want to know how compromised my feels will be so bad....
At least one of you gets me. *dramatic sigh*
Ah right, that was you. I knew it was someone but this thread moves so fast lately. ![]()
I totally understand. I'm right here with you. I want to know but then I went to go in completely unspoiled .No, but seriously... how the heck am I going to keep myself from wanting to see spoilers until Tuesday? I want to know how compromised my feels will be so bad....
As a male Inquisitor to Solas who was his friend in Trespasser :-
"Remember when you left Thedas? Before all this, before Fen'Harel? You were gone two years. Two years I waited, hoping that you wouldn't come back. Each year, I took a holiday. I went to Antiva, there's this cafe, on the bay of Rialto. Every fine evening, I'd sit there and order a Fernet Branca. I had this fantasy, that I would look across the tables and I'd see you there, with a wife and maybe a couple of kids. You wouldn't say anything to me, nor me to you. But we'd both know that you'd made it, that you were happy. I never wanted you to come back to Thedas. I always knew there was nothing here for you, except pain and tragedy. And I wanted something more for you than that. I still do."
I dedicate this from Lavellan to Solas, in our collective long wait.
Oh no you didn't.
I thought I escaped these feelings in junior high!!!
Did Garnet kill the thread with that gif?!?!?!?!
I have that effect on things.. ![]()
*awkwardly shuffles away*
No, but seriously... how the heck am I going to keep myself from wanting to see spoilers until Tuesday? I want to know how compromised my feels will be so bad....
I am the same.. Five days, will we manage? Ughh. It's weird because I want to prepare myself to be sad, but at the same time I want it to be unspoiled so I get the best reaction possible.. which could likely make me sad. Help!
